"Lost Between Floors" workshop map- official guide for Portal 2

“Lost Between Floors” workshop map- official guide

Overview

This is the official guide for the workshop map, “Lost Between Floors.” I am the developer of the map, and while everyone who has played seems to like the map, nobody understood the gameplay mechanics within it as i had hoped.Hopefully, this guide will help players to understand the Wireless Transmitters and Receavers in the map; as well as how to use them to beat the map and it’s future sequels.

The Office

When you first exit the crashed elevator at the start of the map, you come to an abandoned, cluttered office. The first thing you should notice is the writing on the wall (A), and a small device hacked into the old mechanism of the door you just came through (B).

the knob for the button is missing; you will find it shortly.

as the writing suggests, this device on the floor is a transmitter. Make note of where it is pointed, and proceed to there.

You will now see a wider version of the transmitter- this is a receaver. currently, it is connected to the computer next to it (A). You can switch the wire to connect to the exit door instead (B).

As you continue to explore the room, you should see a transmitter sitting on a table adjacent to a receaver (B). When You power the transmitter on, the receaver will now be powered as well- this is because of an invisible signal-beam that now connects them (Blue squiggly line).

Now that the computer is powered and you have the button’s missing knob, you can open the exit door- this is because the transmitter on the floor is now connected to the receaver on the opposite end of the room, as shown in the first and second images.

The Bridge

When you are on the bridge in the next area, there is another receaver sitting on a crate next to the door (circled in yellow), connected to the gate (green line/box). Please make mental note of this.

In the BTS area through the next door, there is a switch. turn it on, and the transmitter (Yellow circle) will begin shooting an invisible signal (blue squiggly line) at the wall in front of it. Place a portal on the wall.(orange circle)

Next, return to the bridge and place another portal next to the receaver(B).
the Transmitter(A) from the BTS area is now connected to it through the portal (blue line).

the gate will now open. When you are now on top of the bridge, there is another transmitter. turn it on, and the signal will hit the wall invisibly on the other side of the room.

place the portals on the bridge, and on the wall, to connect the receaver(B) to the transmitter(A)- this will keep the gate open. walk through your portals.

You will now be standing on the platform next to your portal like a silly red stickman(silly red stickman). the receaver (B) is connected to the door (green line/rectangle). Connect it to the transmitter(A) by placing your portals accordingly.

proceed to the next area.

The Superconductor

This area is very easy. Remember the transmitters, which have 2 lights? this massive dish is, in fact, a large-scale version of the same thing.

Likewise, the other dish embedded into the wall in the other room is just a larger version of the receavers.

However, you’ll notice when powering the transmitter on,that a grate is blocking it.

To exit and finish the map, simply move the grate out of the way and power the giant transmitter (superconductor dish).

the exit door will open.
