Beyond Good and Evil™ Guide

Low Frame Rate Fix for Beyond Good & Evil

Low Frame Rate Fix

Overview

Your one-stop-shop to fixing poor frame rates on modern hardware. Don’t let your fps be sad and pathetic, when it can be glorious and majestic! This guide has been adapted from my 2016 discussion, for more visibility.

The Preamble

Hello and welcome to this adapted guide from my 2016 discussion, which has been turned into a guide for your convenience.

Since you’re here, you know quite well that Beyond Good and Evil struggles to run at a decent frame rate on modern hardware, regardless of settings. It’s been this way for quite a few years now, and Ubisoft clearly has no interest in fixing the problem themselves.

Odds are, you’ve already found and tried the official Ubisoft-approved fix (enable HW Vertex Processing) and it did a whole lot of diddly squat. You’ve probably also found a lot of people in the discussions talking about compatibility modes, settings, affinities, and the such. Out of desperation, you came to the darkest, scariest, most forbidden corner of the steam community: the… guides page. Oh the horror! In these desperate times – what is a gamer to do?

Well, install a graphical mod, of course! It seems counter intuitive, but installing an ENB really can make the game run smoother. I’ll be perfectly honest – I don’t know for certain how adding an ENB fixes the game, all I know is that it simply does. I have the experience of myself, my friends, and several people on the internet that I’ve never met, to back up that fact.

Anyhow, before we get properly started on the guide, I wanted to give a massive thanks to “CaptainSkullsaber” from moddb.com. It is this majestic persons’ ENB that allows us to have BGE in an actually playable frame rate.

Additionally: If you know who made the widescreen fix that I use in the video and all-in-one archive, PLEASE let me know so I can give proper credit!

The Easy Way

Wow, I’m actually going to mention the easy way first this time? What heresy is this!?

This method uses an all-in-one archive that I put together in 2020. It’s super simple to install, and even my technology inept mother was able to do it without any problems.

Oh by the way – this also includes a widescreen fix that has been made compatible with the ENB. Yay widescreen!

You can find the archive -> HERE[drive.google.com] <-

Instructions for installation:
1. Locate your BGE install directory. On steam, you can right click the game, and then click “Browse Local Files”.
2. Open BGE Widescreen and FPS all-in-one.zip” with your preferred archive manager. Navigate to “Fixes”.
3. Copy everything from inside the “Fixes” folder into your BGE install directory.
4. Close the .zip archive, and run BGEResolutionSettings.exe. Set the settings there to match your display’s resolution and refresh rate.

OPTIONAL: Remove enbpallette.bmp to disable the red-shifting that the ENB will cause.

That’s it! Fire up the game and enjoy!

The “I Don’t Trust Klip” Way (Manual Installation)

Ouch, that hurt. Why ya gotta do me like that?

I’ve tried putting the manual installation guide into text, but a lot of people ended up confused. So, here’s this video instead. I’ll get around to remaking it some day, now that my internet can accommodate uploading higher quality videos and I have a mic that doesn’t pick up every single exhale.

This video guide covers both the installation of the ENB and Widescreen Fix.

The ENB-Only Way

Hate widescreen monitors for some reason? Ok, weirdo. You’ll have to make due with this excerpt from the original 2016 discussion.

Getting the ENB
Step 1. Head on over to this website: [link]
Step 2. Scroll down until you see the pink button that says “DOWNLOAD NOW”
Step 3. Click the button, a window should pop up. If the ENB doesn’t automatically download, click the text at the top of the window.
Step 4. Open the .zip file that the ENB comes in.

Installing the ENB
Step 1. Move the .zip file window and the BG&E install directory window to places where you can see both of them.
Step 2. Move all files that are in the .zip file into the install directory of BG&E, alongside the .exe files that are already in the install directory.
