This walkthrough is intended to guide you through the M4-78EP mod for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords. It follows a path through this part of the game to show a quick (if not the quickest) route to completing M4-78 as efficiently as possible with the minimum amount of backtracking whilst completing all the main and side missions.

It is not a game guide and assumes that you are familiar with the game itself and how to fight and defeat opponents and also crafting, levelling characters, etc.

Where this walkthrough suggests you talk to a NPC it highlights the conversation options or outcomes that you need to progress further. Most conversations have other options which provide background information or offer you an opportunity to buy equipment. It is assumed that you will investigate these yourself and does not go into detail (it is usually worth taking a save before entering into a conversation suggested by this walkthrough).

From the main game after completing the Sith academy on Korriban talk to T3 about Kaah Ohtok’s datapad, after which M4-78 should appear on the galaxy map and you can travel there.

When you leave the ship on arrival at M4-78 there is a conversation with some of the crew, then you can go and talk to the droid (LS-44) near the door directly ahead. You are told that there is a radiation leak which started shortly after two unknown organics arrived in the area. You then learn that you cannot enter the facility but can send in a droid to fix the problem so you will be able to enter.

You can send HK-47 or G0-T0 or T3, but only one of them. For this guide I will go through with all three droids in your crew. Although the main mission (removing the radiation) plays out identically for each of them they each get a different side mission with different rewards.

T3

First up is T3. This mission is really irritating as you have to guess what he is saying. Generally his first dialogue option will move things on correctly.

Once you enter the facility there are numerous dead sith and containers. Don’t bother, there is no loot at this stage.

Turn left and go down the ramp. Access the console and download the schematics for the three zones. As you enter the central zone a droid starts a conversation with you. You learn that you need to talk to IS-18 about the radiation.

Head diagonally right towards the industrial zone entrance. As you leave the central area there is an important looking droid on the left. Talk to him and you will be offered a side mission. In T3’s case it involves a virus and stopping an EMP device from destroying the M4-78 droid itself. Once you have accepted the mission, continue into the industrial zone.

In the industrial zone go right and keep going. Just before you reach the open area talk to IS-33 about the side mission. Then enter the open area and go left and down the corridor. Just before you reach the ventilation chamber, talk to IS-29 (side mission). Carry on into the ventilation chamber and talk to IS-18 on the left at the computer console for details of what to do to shut down the radiation.

Head back the way you came and when you reach the open area go to manufacturing in the far left corner and get the number of active droids in the facility. Head back towards the central zone, talking to IS-33 about the next step of the side mission on the way.

In the central zone go to the main area and head to the far right of the area. There is a group of 3 repair droids (fancier versions of your old friends the mining droids on Peragus). Talk to them and activate the virus protocol and you will get a cutscene to complete the side mission. Head directly across the central plaza and you will see two battle droids flanking a computer console. Activate a shield before you get to close as they are going to turn hostile. Kill them and access the computer (don’t forget to loot their bodies as they usually have something). Transfer the code to the ventilation chamber terminal and leave.

When you reach the important looking droid you can talk to him to get your reward for completing the side mission. In this case it is +2 dexterity. Not exactly planet shaking but then you did not have to do much either.

In the industrial zone you are stopped by three battle droids. The best option is to talk your way out of it for now. The Exile can kill them later. Head for the ventilation chamber and talk to IS-18. Once he gives you access to his terminal, log on to it and enter the code. The code is the number of active droids in the facility, which you got from IS-02. However you have killed two droids since then so you need to enter the number you got from IS-02 minus two to allow IS-18 to access the system and shut down the radiation.

That completes the main quest and returns you to controlling the Exile on the landing pad.

G0-T0

The main mission with G0-T0 is identical with T3. As with T3 grab the schematics for the 3 zones, get the instructions to talk to IS-18 and talk to the important looking droid. G0-T0’s side mission is to recover a piece of advanced technology.

Enter the industrial zone and talk to IS-33 who sends you to IS-29 as with T3. IS-29 does not have the item and sends you back to IS-33. However you are near IS-18 so talk to him first about the main mission, then go to IS-33. IS-18 sends you to IS-02 in manufacturing. IS-02 gives you permission to use the console in the central zone and the information on the number of droids in the colony.

IS-33 can be forced to reveal that he did not interfere with the package and that you should talk to RS-67 in the central zone. Return to the central zone and confront her (near to M4–78’s bunker) and force her to hand over the technology. Before you approach the console power up a shield, then kill the battle droids and send the code to the ventilation chamber console.

Talk to the important looking droid and you are offered a choice of rewards, either +2 dexterity or to make stealth a class skill.

Enter the industrial zone, talk your way past the battle droids and go to IS-18. As with T3, you have already transferred the first part of the code to his console. The second part is the number of droids you were told by IS-02 minus the 2 you killed. That completes both the main and side missions for G0-T0.

001

HK-47

HK-47 has the same main mission but a different side mission again. As it is for HK-47 it involves an extra killing (it would not be HK-47 if there were no killings would it now?) Start by heading into the central zone, grabbing schematics for all the zones on the way, get the information about talking to IS-18 for the main mission and from the important looking droid about talking to IS-33 for the assassination side mission.

As with the other droids IS-33 sends you to IS-29. IS-29 sends you back to IS-33 but go a little further on and talk to IS-18 first. IS-33, under duress of course, summons your target to the central area so you can now go and terminate it. With CS-99 dead send the code from the console to the ventilation chamber. You are done in this area and can claim your reward from the important looking droid. HK-47 gains the Targeting I, II and III feats.

Talk your way past the battle droids and go to IS-18. When he opens his console for you to enter the code remember that you have killed 3 droids this time so deduct 3 from the number of droids in the colony to get the correct code. The mission finishes and the Exile can now enter the colony.
Which droid you send in is entirely up to you. The side mission rewards are nice but not critical. I usually send HK-47 because I prefer playing him and listening to his dialogue. The best reward is probably getting stealth as a class skill for G0-T0 but I don’t make much use of G0-T0 or T3 in the game. HK-47’s reward looks good but see comment later.

Main Quest

You enter the colony at the same point as the initial droid mission. Start by searching the area as corpses and containers now contain loot (I am not going to point out every single container and body to you, they are there in front of you and it should be second nature to check them out by now. I will mention any that are important). Note that IS-57 is standing in this area.

I will indicate which droids you need to talk to and the critical parts of the conversations. Do explore other conversation options if you want to. There is often more than one way to accomplish a task.

Move down the ramp into the main area of the central zone and talk to the information droid about finding Master Vash. Near the information droid there is an escort droid. Escort droids are helpful in getting around faster as they can instantly take you to other locations. The only drawback is that you have to walk everywhere initially before you can use an escort droid to get there.

Search the area.

Droids to talk to for side missions:-

Conspicuous War Droid for “A long walk”

CS-13 for “Archon communications”

CS-28 for “Deadly upgrade”

The maintenance droid sells droid parts, including a unique item whch boosts a droid’s heal injury skill (normally your droids have no points in this skill and cannot use medpacks on other party members but can do so with this item equipped – I’ve never found any use for it in my games). The second unique item sold by the central maintenance droid is the “Droid Stealth Booster”. This is the second item in the game that only G0-T0 can use. It costs 6000 credits and boosts his stealth by +5.

All the other droids are either not important or we will get to them later.

Now head for the industrial zone, searching the area outside the entrance. Note the position of IS-58, just outside the entrance to the industrial zone.

Once inside the industrial zone go and talk to IS-62 on the eastern side of the area. NOTE: from this point on I will generally give directions based on the points of the compass with North towards the top of the map. IS-62 sells medpacks and other medical items. After negotiation he offers you a 70% discount. Not bad! Then he explains his customers, the Sith colonists, are all dead so no-one wants to buy all his stuff. If you want to be one of the good guys then suggest he ships his supplies to Telos. He will agree but you will have to arrange shipping. We’ll sort that out later. If you are dark side then talk to IS-63 nearby about shipping kolto to the sith.

002

Head East along the main corridor to the 3 battle droids who want to arrest whichever droid you sent in to deal with the radiation leak. Deal with this however you want, just ensure a violent resolution for the XP as you do not have to take an alignment hit for killing these droids.

When you reach the next open area there is an escort droid in the NW corner. Escort droids are marked on your full map. Any fixed escort droid you can walk up to can take you to any other escort droid you have been near. This can save you a lot of holding keys or buttons down and getting very bored running.

Head over to the group of droids at the side of manufacturing (southern edge of area). The conversation should reveal that a battle droid has an unknown part installed which has caused him to go rogue (this is the “deadly upgrade” mission you picked up from CS-28). Let it go to combat and destroy the droid (he is tough but you are a master jedi backed up by your two companions and also several battle droids so kill him). Loot the remains for the Droid assassination module (one of the three unique items only HK-47 can use. T3 should already have his three, shock arm/self sustaining module/renewable shield and you will be able to complete G0-T0’s three here on M4-78). Unfortunately the assassination module is not that good if you have already sent HK-47 as your droid to remove the radiation as the Targeting I, II and III feats he would have gained then on that mission are duplicated by the assassination module. However it also gives +2 attack and the first three precise shot feats so it is not a total bust.

Head north to the console outside the magnetically sealed door and view the two recordings. The first shows a droid closing the door then being shot by a Sith. The second shows a cleaning droid picking up something from the area then introduces IS-43. IS-43 is a teensy little bit obssessive about keeping everywhere clean (think of him as a mechanical womble on steroids. Anyone under 50 who knows what a womble is, give yourself a pat on the back). Now we need to talk to IS-43.
Go south to the open area and IS-43 is in the NE corner. If you are light side then work through to getting permission to upload reports at the central zone console. Then use the nearby escort droid to travel to the central zone. Talk to CS-28 to complete the “Deadly upgrade” sidequest, then go to the central console. Access the console and upload a high priority report about a large amount of trash. Which area? In the first recording you watched IS-43 appears and says area II-B is now clear. This will cause the cleaning droids in the industrial zone to overload. Go to the industrial zone and the part you are looking for should be in the damaged cleaning droid in the E-W corridor, just west of the open area. Take the part to the central zone maintenance droid.

The maintenance droid tries to tell you the part you found is from CS-45 but that is not possible as CS-45 has not reported losing it. Talk to CS-45 who is near M4-78’s bunker. Back to maintenance droid then back to CS-45 who can now explain what happened. If light side send him to maintenance droid for repair, if dark side then just destroy him, either way the magnetically sealed door unlocks.

Go to the industrial zone and go and open the magnetically sealed door. A greeter droid welcomes you. Ask to see IS-24. There is, of course, a problem (is nothing straightforward on a planet of programmed machines? No). The greeter mentions several droids who may know more. We will start with the industrial zone maintenance droid as he is nearest. His shack is in the NE corner of this area.

Talk to the industrial zone maintenance droid. There are several conversation options to follow and all are worth exploring at this time. Activate the “Fixing droids” and “Rogue employee side missions”. Get permission to use the workbench as this is the one you will use on M4-78 (you can swap party members in and out here when upgrading weapons anf armour).

“Fixing droids” involves IS-57 and IS-58 who you have already found and a third droid in the environmental zone. However you need to find items to fix them with and we will come back to this later. The purpose of “Rogue employee” is rather mysterious but we will get there eventually.

How to continue the main quest is not clear here as the maintenance droid denies any contact with I1-01. You could go and try to track down the other droids that the greeter droid mentioned but the quickest way is to go to the console opposite the maintenance shack and view the security footage. It seems to have been tampered with but if you go back to the maintenance droid he can recover the original recording. Eventually the quest can be moved on to going to R&D to start rebuilding I1-01. Before you leave this area, talk to the damaged droid near the central pillars for the “Rogue employee” mission. The conversation does not gain any light side benefits but if dark side you can destroy the droid for dark side points and 650XP.

003

Head south to Testing and R&D. At the end of the corridor there is an escort droid. This saves a lot of time in getting around. Beyond the escort droid search the broken droids on the left and the boxes on the right. Continue through the testing rooms into the area with computers at the beginning of the corridor to the Archon chamber. Talk to IS-56 and he will admit the sith scanned a droid’s head so I1-01 might be in his computers. A successful persuade here will get him to start the process of rebuilding I1-01 (and gets you influence with G0-T0).

Before you leave this area look for a maintenance droid labelled “industrial droid” He is the droid who has been causing the problems for the industrial zone maintenance droid. This will complete the “Rogue employee” side mission and unlock the “Data transfer” side mission. You will be able to move that mission on when you find Kaah Ohtok.

Now go back to the testing rooms and find IS-84. First ask for schematics of M4-78 for the “Archon communications” mission, then ask for I1-01 to be rebuilt. Move further through the testing rooms and speak to IS-99. IS-99 readily agrees to test I1-01 but, predictably, it is too good to be that easy. However you can strike a deal with him in which you will speed up the testing process by testing droids. Use the console and instruct the droid under test to fire at the Duros and the Ithorian holotargets. Then have the computer create a new target – IS-99. Instruct the droid under test to shoot at the Duros and Ithorian holotargets again, then at the IS-99 holotarget. This overloads the system and gives you a chance to ensure IS-99 is destroyed. There is a more violent option for darksiders. A tester assistant then appears and agrees to honour your deal with IS-99 to get I1-01 tested, after which I1-01 is sent on to Manufacturing/Diagnostic. Go to the nearby escort droid and use it to get to the escort droid in the SE Corner of the map. Go into the shack in the SE corner and, after the conversation ends, you will be able to recover I1-01 at last. He informs you that the Industrial Archon chamber is now open for you.

You now have to go all the way back through testing and R&D to get to the Archon chamber. Using the escort droids will make this rather quicker and easier.

Go and meet IS-24. The conversation options all lead to the same outcomes. Once IS-24 agrees to allow you access to the environmental zone you can leave and head over there.

This is a good time to advance several side missions. Go to the central plaza. Talk to CS-13 and complete “Archon communication”. Don’t worry about giving away a power core, you will be ble to get it back later. Go to the area where the door back to the landing pad is and check IS-57. IS-57 needs a pair of legs. Return to the main plaza, turn right and talk to the “Black market droid”. Do not buy the droid equipment as it is ordinary stuff you can get cheaper elsewhere. Do buy the walker legs as you need these to get IS-57 mobile again. Do so. Head back to the entrance to the industrial zone and check out IS-58. You should be able to install 2 of the parts needed.

On to the environmental zone. As you approach the area you come across the remains of a fight. Loot the Sith’s body for some type of lightsaber. Talk to the droid tagged “fight witness” for information on what happened.

Enter the environmental zone. There are areas where there is nothing significant happening. I will highlight where particular attention is needed. As you enter each area destroy all hostile gun turrets and droids. The floating maintenance droids try to get close then explode when you destroy them. Destroy all hostiles, recover mines and loot.

004

At the third recharge station make sure you open the container in the NE corner. You should have now found the battery for the conspicuous war droid and a battery for IS-58. Use the nearby wall terminal to reprogram the conspicuous war droid battery. The exit from this area is the door in the west wall but before opening it use the nearby wall terminal to reprogram the minefield in the area beyond. As I usually have G0-T0 with me and he has both stealth and does not trigger mines I reprogram the minefield to only damage droids. G0-T0 can then lure any hostile droids through the minefield.

Continue until you reach the area marked “outer defence region” on your map and then use the console straight ahead of you to deal with the turrets. You can deactivate them, overload them or cause them to attack M4-78 droids. Once you have made your choice move into the next area and deal with any opposition. Beyond is an area at the far end of which is a door leading to the compound where the entrance to the Archon chamber is located. Destroy the three batle droids. To open the door requires repairing a corrupted key sequence. The correct value is 4 (answer number 3).

Beyond is a really tough fight. The guardian droid is powerful, takes a lot of damage and uses quite damaging droid weapons. Start by using destroy droid or lightning storm to eliminate the maintenance droids, then pick off the battle droids. Once you are left with only the guardian it turns into a stand up knock down slugging match. Towards the end of the battle more droids appear from the direction you came. However they are perfectly placed to shoot any ranged fighters in your party in the back. They are the last defenders and once they are dealt with the way to the Archon is open.

The wreckage of the guardian droid will contain the “Droid omniscience module”, the third item unique to G0-T0 (the first one, the targeting module was equipped to him when he joined your party).

Start with the data transmission query. Then move to the main quest . Kaah can be calmed down by pursuing the line questioning whether Master Vash is really dead. Eventually he will give you access to ES-05. Finally he will give the information needed to complete the “Data transmission” side mission.

You can then talk to ES-05. Once she agrees to reactivating M4-78 you can head back towards the central zone.

To get through the shields blocking “Outer defence zone” simply ask ES-12 (the large droid standing next to the shields) to let you through. You pass an escort droid which is not yet useable (since using it to hop straight to the central zone would bypass several important encounters you don’t want to at this time anyway).

The entrance to the 4th recharge station is sealed but the right hand battle droid will pass you through.

In the corridor between the 3rd and 2nd recharge stations one droid is having difficulties with another. To resolve this you will need to be accompanied by HK-47 and to have previously taken the feat “Droid interface” for him on one of his level ups. If so, talk to ES-43 who tells you the other droid only speaks a language no-one else understands and is costing the other droids time as he is not working in accordance with them. Start talking to the other droid and ask HK to translate. The light side outome for this mission is to have HK give the droid instructions on how to work with the ordinary M4-78 droids. The dark side outcome is much more fun. Order HK to tell the droid that he has been kidnapped by the droid alongside him (ES-43) and that he must attack this droid immediately. Conflict breaks out and the incomprehensible droid gets destroyed. This earns good influence with HK or Mandalore (if he is present).

005

In the SE corner of the 2nd recharge station you will find IS-55, the third droid in the “Fixing droids” side mission. Talk to him and he will leave and report to the industrial maintenance droid.

At the 1st recharge station there is a group of HK-50’s. Deal with them.

Once back in the central zone as it is a good time to wrap up some of the remaining side missions.

Go to the entrance to the industrial zone and fit the battery to IS-58 to complete “Fixing droids”. Fit the battery to the conspicuous war droid to complete the “A long walk” side mission.

The next step is to talk to the central maintenance unit about fixing LS-65. He advises that you will need 4 power cores and gives you 2. If you were thorough searching the droids you destroyed in the environmental zone you shuld have found a power core. You can go over to CS-13 (the droid from the “Archon communications” side mission) and get back the power core you gave him. That should mean that you have the 4 required and can now install them in the four power stations. If you are short of power cores you can get some from the industrial zone maintenance unit (we are going to go see him shortly anyway).

Although you can activate the power stations and meet M4-78 now, we are going to wrap up a couple of side missions first. Unfortunately you have to go all the way to R&D in the industrial zone. Fortunately the escort droid standing near where you first entered the central plaza when you arrived on M4-78 can take you as far as the industrial zone loading area so you just have to run through the testing rooms and speak to the maintenance droid who changed his own programming. That will complete the “Data transmission” side mission.

Next, trek all the way to the industrial maintenance droids shack. As you get close there is an amusing cutscene between the maintenance droid and the pain in everyone’s ass, IS-43.

Talk to the maintenance droid about having dealt with the three droids he wanted fixing and he will agree to upgrade HK-47, G0-T0 and T3. All get some upgrading, one at a time (you will have to do some swapping of characters in and out of your party but that can be done in this location). This is also your last opportunity on this planet to use a workbench where you can swap party members around and create upgrades and install these in their equipment. As this is usually my last discretionary planet (before heading to Dantooine for the showdown with the jedi masters) I invariably have a ton of gear that is obsolete or just not useful. I break a lot of it down here although I already have more that enough cash and components as breaking stuff at least makes my inventory a little more manageable.

When you are ready, head towards the central zone (there is an escort droid you can use for part of the way). Once at the central plaza you need to get all four power stations on and linked. I don’t have a guaranteed way of doing this but a few minutes of playing around turning stations on and off usually cracks it.

The conversation with M4-78, and Kaah’s intervention after the death of Master Vash, can be followed to any conclusion. None of it, apart from Vash being dead, feeds back into the main game anyway. It is possible to complete the Telos fuel quest by arranging a supply from M4-78 if you did not arrange a supply from Vogga before.

When you are done with M4-78 then leave. Search Vash’s body for a lightsaber and the middle locker to the right of the exit for a couple of good lightsaber crystals.

Head back to the landing pad. Complete the last side mission by talking to LS-44 to arrange transport of the kolto to Telos. Once you are aboard the Hawk you resume the base game + TSLRCM.

That is all the possible missions completed. This is pretty much the quickest and most efficient way to complete M4-78. The main benefits of playing the mod are the extra levels you will get from the XP and the droid items you find, as well as the upgrades HK-47 can get, which will make the droid factory rather easier.
