Story, Hidden & Unmissables

Achievement
Description
Everything Lost Again
Complete Act 01
Wasteland of Opportunities
Complete Act 02
Digging a Deeper Hole
Complete Act 03
Power in the Machine
Complete Act 04
Downward Spiral Reawakening
Complete Act 05

There are 5 hidden achievements for Mad Max. All of which are story related achievements. There’s not much to say here, just follow the green story markers on your map.

I, personally, would recommend clearing each territory before entering the next one, though.

Finishing the story will NOT trigger New Game+ (if there even is one, I don’t know), so you can do that whenever you feel like it and continue to gather the missing achievements afterwards.

Achievement
Description
Slight Distraction
Complete the Dinki-Di Wasteland Mission
Stop and Smell the Roses
Complete all Wasteland Missions

Upon completing story missions, you’ll unlock wasteland missions. Those, with blue markers instead of green ones. The game will show a message on your screen, whenever you unlock new wasteland missions and they are easily spotable from the map.

Achievement
Description
Just Walk Away
Travel 650 car lengths on foot
On the Road to Nowhere
Travel 1300 car lenths in a vehicle
Golden Boy
Reach a new legend rank
Road Warrior
Reach Road Warrior legend rank

These achievements are absolutely impossible to miss. They will just happen, you can’t really do anything to avoid it. So I just put them here.

Achievement
Description
Maximum
Fully upgrade Max

This one is not UNmissable, but basically done together with the “Road Warrior” achievement just above. All you’ve to do here is to buy Max’ best clothes and all of his skills, once they are unlocked.

Miscellanious

Picture
Achievement
Description
Quench Their Thirst
Give water to a wanderer
Wasteland Chef
Eat a meal of maggots

You’ll learn early on in the game about the 2 methods of healing. Water and food. Both coming with related symbols above them in the world.

If you see some random NPCs walking through the dessert with the water symbol above them, you’ve encountered some wanderers. Walk towards them and press the interact button. If you’ve around a half filled water canteen, this achievement is yours. Problem is, they are entirely up to RNG. That being said, I found 5 of those, while going for all achievements.

If you should stumble across a corpse with a food symbol above him, you’ve found yourself some maggots. Lunch time. The earliest maggots I found where at the ventage outpost in “colossus” in Jeet’s territory.

Achievement
Description
Just Rewards
Have 5,000 scrap in your inventory
Scrap Collector
Have 10,000 scrap in your inventory
Blockhead
Own the best V6 and V8 Engines

There are quite a few ways of obtaining scrap. I’ll not tell you how you should gather up on it. I’ll tell you, however, that you shouldn’t buy any V8 engines until you’ve unlocked the 10,000 scrap achievement. To get to the best V8 from the one unlocked by the story, you’ll need approx. 15,000 scrap. So just wait with this one. Aside from that, the 10,000 shouldn’t pose a problem.

But if you really want some hints and tipps on how to gather up on scrap, look at this:

Car, Archangels & Deathruns

Picture
Achievement
Description
Fresh Air
Drive the Magnum Opus off a Wasteland Jump
Maximum Air
Be airborne in a vehicle for 4 seconds or more and land without dying

Fresh Air is basically part of the story. You’ll need to do it, once you’ve unlocked the boost.
Maximum Air on the other hand is a tricky one. Personally, I followed this guide:

Picture
Achievement
Description
The Quick Driver
Complete a Time Bomb Death Run
The Smart Driver
Complete a Scatter Death Run
The Skilled Driver
Complete a Barrel Bash Death Run
Running Wild
Complete at least one race at every Death Run Location

Deathruns. Winning one of those unlocks you 2 things – apart from achievements:
The vehicle you drove will be added to your vehicle collection.
And a stack of 3 infinitely respawning fuel cannisters appear at the deathrun’s location.
Apart from winning 1 deathrun for the second benefit, I’d recommend leaving these for the late game. Just do them together with:

Picture
Achievement
Description
The Saint
Complete a Death Run in an Archangel
The Guardian
Successfully complete a Death Run with every Archangel
The Messenger
Complete a Death Run in legendary time with every Archangel
The Exiled
Defeat an enemy vehicle with every Archangel

So, what are Archangels. Archangels are just predetermined combinations of certain parts on your Magnum Opus. The story forces you to build one of them pretty early on, so I won’t bother you with any further explanations.
Regarding the achievements: You can use the max level booster, with each Archangel. So make good use of it.

And you don’t actually have to destroy an enemy vehicle with every Archangel. You just have to sit inside one of them. Which means you should destroy at least 1 enemy vehicle with your thunderpoon per deathrun.

If you’re only missing the car body for a specific Archangel, then take a look at this:

Strongholds

Jeet
Gutgash
Pink Eye
Achievements
Description
Doing Jeet a Big Favor,
Doing Gutgash a Big Favor,
Doing Pink Eye a Big Favor
Build two projects in the Stronghold
Jeet Thrives,
Gutgash Thrives,
Pink Eye Thrives
Reduce threat to 0 in the
region around the Stronghold
Start of Something Good,
Keep Up the Good Work,
Spreading the Word
Clear all threat in the territory

All of them:

Picture
Achievement
Description
The Constructionist
Build all projects in all Strongholds

Attention: This includes Deep Friah’s territory!

Not much to say here, really. In order to build projects, you’ll need to find specific project parts. You’ll get those in camps and scrap locations. Big chests with a tools symbol above it.
You can see on your map, whether a camp/scrap location has a project part or not.

Reduce the threat to 0 by doing all of the stuff in the next section:

Wasteland, Camps & Threat

Picture
Achievement
Description
Up, Up and Away
Fly the balloon at every Vantage Outpost
Looked Everywhere
Loot all Scavenging Locations

Driving to all available ventage outposts in a territory is the very first thing you should do upon going into a new territory.

But there are 3 aspects, which the outpost won’t show/reveal you:
Scrap locations, convoy routes and minefields.

For the convoy routes and minefields, refer to this guide:

The scrap locations can all be revealed by building the survey crew project for the respective territory. The parts for said project can be anywhere in a territory. To find them, watch the following videos by Joey Houlahan:

  • Jeet’s territory
    Gutgash’s territory
    Pink Eye’s territory

Picture
Achievement
Description
A Thousand Words
Collect all History Relics

If you’ve collected almost all history relics, and are only 1 relic short, this guide may help you:

Picture
Achievement
Description
No Brainer
Destroy all scarecrows
Sniper Suppressor
Take out all Scrotus snipers
Bomb Specialist
Clear all minefields
Daddy Wants a New Grill
Collect all hood ornaments

Take down all convoys
Rust is the New Black
Collect all body colors

Take down all Top Dog camps
The Bigger they are…
Take down a Top Dog camp
Razing Legend
Take down all Scrotus camps
Explosions Are Not Enough
Complete all optional objectives in all camps

No explanation needed for these. If you don’t know what those achievements want from you, just play the first 2h of the game and it will tell you everything you need to know.

Well, this is it. Clear the wasteland.
Scrotus destroyed your car, you’ll destroy his empire. Eye for an eye. Easy as that.

Up to the Task

Picture
Achievement
Description
Up to the Task
Complete all non-repeating challenges

This achievement can NOT be unlocked anymore. One of the many, many “challenges” you had to complete for this one required a server connection, but Mad Max’s server were shut down on the 31. Oct. 2020.

Thanks to tragedy for bringing this to my awareness and thanks to Trondesson for confirming it.

Soo… if you want this one, you’ll have to download a save file.

You can either go for the link provided in this steam discussion,
or download the save directly from this Nexusmods[www.nexusmods.com] page (account required).

I haven’t tested either of them, so do this at your own risk. I will say though, that I’ve never had any negative experiences with Nexusmods.
