Overview
Have you ever wonderded how people make their great testing chambers? I’m here to tell you how it’s done. Now, before we start, we should go over a few things…
Getting Started
Often, people think that BEEMOD is needed for making tests. Let me tell you one thing: IT IS NOT! All of my tests do not use BEEMOD in any way. Now then, on to building the test. The first thing you want to do is to make no surfaces portalable. You can easily do this by going to the edit button, press “Select All,” right click, and un-check Portalable. Trust me, this makes building a test MUCH easier.
Most people do not like the large obseration room. To get rid of it, you have to click on it, press push surface, and then make it large enough so it has no errore. Then, fill in that hole, and no one can see it. Note, that the observatory room is a major source of light, and if you remove to, you will have to add in a large number of light strips to you’re chamber.
The Laws of Gravity: Falling and Portals
The easier way of Gravity is falling into a portal, and coming out another, or, for you people who remember Portal “Speedy Thing Come In, Speedy Thing Come Out,”. There are two methods of doing this: Up or Out. In up, all you have to do is have the player fall into a portal that goes as far down as it goes up. It is advised that you add a Tractor Beam of a Button connecting to a Light Bridge so that they can get onto the ledge easier, unless there is just a button up there that leads to a cube dropper below.
The other method of Falling and Portals is Out. When you use the out method, you typicaly have to use an Angled Pannel to fire you out. You should make the pannel at a higher or equal level to the place where you intend the player to go to. You should make the fall longer or equal to the amount of blocks you are moving across. It is okay to make the fall shorter IF the Angeled Pannel is higher then you’re destenation.
In ethier of these methods, you can use an Angeled Pannel at the direct spot of the destenation to make the player launch up or across farther. This will have to be tested much more often, and at LEAST twice before you publish the test (Unless you are just publishing to friends or as private so that they can try it). This is a very complicated method, and is only advised for Medium/Advance Level testing chamber creators.
The Laws of Gravity: Ariel Faith Plates
The more complicated method of gravity is Ariel Faith Plates. The first hing I should note is that they can be used for the same two methods as Falling and Portals, but this is quite more advanced. A good method for Up is to have the plate on a block, with the target directly above it. However, this would normaly only launch you one block foreward. To fix this, you have to click on the Faith Plate, and you will see a little yellow circle. Pull that directly upwards as many blocks as you want the player to go up. This will increase the power of the plate, making it possible to reach higher places.
The method of Out is MUCH more complicated than up. There are two things you can do. One: do the same as the first, and use the out method that I explained in the The Laws of Gravity: Falling and Portals section. Two: use the plate to launch to an area straight as possible. If you make to much of an arc, the plate will work poorly. So basicly: The straighter the better!
Conclusion
Well, we have reached the end of our tour. I hope you enjoyed the time, and will check out my The Laws of Gravity maps, a series based around, well, the laws of gravity. If you have any comments, post them below,
