Uncharted Waters Online: Episode Atlantis Guide

Maritime Basics for Uncharted Waters Online: Episode Atlantis

Maritime Basics

Overview

The very basic guide every budding maritimer should know. This is DesertEagle’s guide with a bit more updated graphic aides as well as updated information (as much as I could find anyway), and a bit more in depth with the help of the wiki guide.

Cannons

Cannon Skills
  • Ballistic – Increases the range of your cannon shots. It reduces the amount of damage you do to your ally when your ally and an enemy is in melee. It also makes your damage steady, meaning when you have ballistic on, you will get damages like 250, 260, 250, 265, 250 while if you dont you will get something like 194, 230, 265, 250, 213
  • Penetration – Increases your cannons damage. The amount of damage increase is the skill rank of penetration x 8
  • Reloading – Your cannons reload faster
  • Accuracy – You can attack enemies in a close range. It also increases the chance of your shots hitting the enemy

Types of Cannons

Now I will be explaining about the effects of types of cannons. But first of all, I should mention that except for normal shots, any other type of cannons kills enemy sailors.

  • Normal shots – Nothing really special with these types of cannons
  • Double shots – Normally has slow reloading speed, but deals quite a bit of damage than average cannons.
  • Grape shots – When you critically hit with grapeshots, higher chance of your opponents sailors dying and reducing the amount of vigor the enemy has. These types of cannons also increase the chance of disorder, but has low damage.
  • Chain Shots – When you critically hit with these, you will destroy the opponents key or sails 100%. Weak damage.
  • Fire Shots – Has a chance to cause fire on your enemies ship. Fire deals damage overtime unless treated. Weaker than normal shots, but still good enough damage.
  • Smoke shots – Has a chance to cause smoke in your opponents ship. Your opponent has a chance of one of their cannons malfunction during reloading time when affected with smoke. Smoke also reduces the damage your opponent deals by a little bit.

Cannon Statiistics and Attributes
  • Piercing = The higher it is, the more damage it does and higher chance to cause leak
  • Range =The higher it is, longer the range
  • Bullet speed = The higher it is, the more accurate your cannon shots get, causing you to have higher chance to do max damage and higher chance to cause disorder.
  • Burst Range = The higher it is, the more damage you deal to your opponents equipments and their sailors
  • Reloading speed = The higher it is, faster your cannons load.

Melee

Melee Skills
  • Assault – Your sailors charge, killing more enemy sailors
  • Tactics – Increases your attacks and defense
  • Gunfire – Reduces the enemies attacks and defense
  • Guard – Increases your defense for the melee round you use it
  • Plunder – Passive. Steals your enemies goods when you capture their ship (Passive)
  • Aboardage – Gives you almost double the range in which it takes to start a melee battle.

Assault counters tactics, tactics counter gunfires, gunfires counter guard, guard counters assault. Now here are some in-depth information about the skills and skill ranks of melee skills

Details
  • Assault – This one is obvious. You assault rank – the extra amount of sailors you kill, so if your assault rank was 13 and you used assault and did not get counter, you will kill the amount you would normally kill without using assault + 13.
  • Tactics – Ranks doesnt really matter because it really increases your attacks and defense by the same amount no matter what skill rank, but if your skill rank is higher, more boost you get when you counter your enemies skill or less damage you take when you get countered
  • Guard – Higher the skill rank, Kills more when you counter assault, and less sailor death of yours
  • Gunfire – Higher rank Increases the amount you reduce the enemies attack and defense when you counter the enemies skill, and reduces the damage you get when you get countered.
  • Plunder – Higher skill rank, the more goods you can plunder.

How to determine your melee attack/defense during melee battles
  • Attack = (Number of Sailors/2)+(Amount of stern castle bonus X 5)
    +(Maritime Level/2)+(Swordplay Rank X 3)+(Your characters equipments bonus attack damage/4)
    +{(Your Sailors Ability-2)/10} – {(Sailors Fatigue+5- α)/10} ※α has not been confirmed what it is so far.
  • Defense = (Number of Sailors/4)
    +(Maritime Level/2)+(First Aide Rank X 3)+(Your characters equipments bonus defense/4)
    +{(Your sailors loyalty-1)/10}

Other Skills

  • Evasion – Reduces the amount of damage you take, reduces the chance that you will get critted, and reduces the amount of crit damage you take. Pretty self-explanatory. Evasion counters accuracy pretty much you can say, but accuracy will still make your damage steady whether or not the enemy has evasion turned on.
  • Shot Defenses ( Aide skills) – These skills reduce the damage you take from certain shots. For example, if your aide had double shot defense and you turn that skill on during a battle, you take reduced damage from double shot cannons.
  • Request Navy – This skill is only used when you are doing hard maritime quests. The difference between this skill and the item ‘Navy Dispatch Request’ is that Request Navy skill can’t be used in PvP. The Navy that comes out depends on your maritime level, so if a level 10 used it some useless navy will appear, but if you are level 60 H Galleon/Galleass/H Galley/ Vasseau will appear depending on which nation you are in. The strongest Navy is Venetian and Ottoman (Melee) and the Netherlands (Cannon). Other Navy really sucks a lot
  • Arms – Allows you to use skills that you can attach to your ship when you upgrade the ship. This is pretty much a must in my opinion, but you can still be competitive not having the ship skills.
  • First Aid (Passive) – Reduces the chance that your sailors die from cannon shots, and increases your defense during melee.
  • Surgery – You revive your sailors that died in a battle. You cant always revive to 100% if a lot of sailors died. Higher skill ranks revive more sailors.
  • Repair – Repairs your ships durability. Higher skill ranks increase the amount you repair.

More Details on Skills
  • Evasion – reduces the maximum damage you can take unless you are in a leakage. When your ship is leaking, you take more damage from cannon shots. When you have evasion, you can not get hit for max damage when not in leakage but is still susceptible to getting hit with max damage when you are leaking, except it just reduces the chance that you will get hit for max damage. Now if you are a maritimer at a high level, you should know that there are ship skills you can attach to your ship called “Extra-Armour plating”. This skill adds around 10 extra armour to your ship, which isnt bad.
  • Shot Defense – reduces the amount of max damage you can take from side shots both in non – leakage and leakage. There has not been a formula found for this just yet.

Grinding and Types of NPCs

NPCs and Leveling Route
  • Levels 1~15 = Do school quests
  • Levels 15~20 = Baltic Sea or at Canaries Sea (however you spell that )
  • Levels 20~28 = Mobs between Santo Domingo and San Juan. Do not go for the Buccaneers.
  • Levels 28~50 = India is the best choice. Also possible at the Persian gulf or something like that which is near ports like Hormuz and etc. (Persian Gulf is the best place to practice your S shot skill, which is mentioned below. If you master your S shot skill, Persian would be way faster than india, except late lvl 40’s you will have some penalty, so you would have to move to india.
  • Levels 50 ~ 65 = You can level at East of Nassau. Problem is that some mobs will start giving penalties when your level reaches somewhere around 63
  • Levels 65~75 = Lop Buri has 2 fleets outside that instantly respawns after you sink one of the other; Japan Area has purple sailed Large Galleons; Newfoundland area in the colony area has 4 First Class Vaisseaus Fleet and a 5 fleet First Class Vaisseaus and Frigate fleet that drops the SSB book.

Note: You need lot of money in order to level easy, and it does take a lot of grinding and grinding alone

4 Types of NPC Mobs
  • The first type of NPCs are the ones that moves in the opposite direction of your going. For example:
  • These types of NPCs are not melee NPCs, and therefore you can easily kill them just by shooting them with cannons from the side or melee them since they usually dont have any melee skills.
  • The second type of NPCs are the ones with usually the ones where 2 of them at once comes charging in at you.
  • These types of NPCs have rams and only the last 2 mobs will start charging at you, both at the same time. These mobs do have melee skills, and their rams do hurt. In order to hunt these types of NPCs down with ease, you have to learn the ‘S Shots’. You move in the form of the letter S and get the mobs down with ease. Its easier if I show it with videos, so I will borrow a video from a korean server.

The only important thing in the video that says is that when you are parking you should be at around 45 degrees and the first shot is showing when you shoot too late.

  • The third type is the NPCs where the last comes straight at you to melee.
  • You can get these mobs just like the way you get the second types of NPCs. Beware, these NPCs have high melee attack and defense, fast speed, and also has melee skills.
  • Fourth types of mobs is scatter type. These NPCs just scatter randomly, and do not have any certain type of pattern. These mobs will most likely the ones that will shoot criticals on you. Generally these are not melee NPCs and they dont have a strong cannon damage either, but not always. Sometimes has melee skills.

Combos

Now, everybody has seen those combo things appear before, but what exactly is it?
When you hit a combo with another of your fleet mate, the damage you will do will be (Normal damage you would do x 1.2). This can apply to both person or just one person randomly.

Final Notes:

  • Occasionally when you are hit by cannon, you will become disordered. When this occurs, the attack of the disordered party will be dramatically reduced while in melee. The attack of the opposing party will be increased as well. Do not engage in meelee while disordered.
  • Storage opposes Plunder. An equal storage rank may prevent plunder.
