Masochist Frost Warlock- 1200+ Anomaly Guide v0.62.1

Overview

If you want to play a high-damage ranged warlock, this build is for you. The build primarily focuses using frost spears from two different skills. Filling the whole screen with frost spears can be quite satisfying!

Introduction

This is a Warlock Frost build using the Masochist set and Frost Spear type skills. This guide will basically focus on what the build is, the playstyle/mechanics, what skills I use and why, and also the equipment used. It will be very straight to the point. Note that this is an end game build, so good equipment is required for the full effect.

PROS:

-Ranged! Safe!
-Everything gets slowed around you
-Fast clear speeds
-High Damage
-Lots of AOE
-You’re a Lich!
-Fun to play

CONS:

-Screen gets cluttered with Frost Spears
-No mobility skill

To get an an idea of what this build looks like in action, here is a short video:

Playstyle

This build uses two skills for damage: Frigid Star and Deathly Barrage. This skill uses two sets to supplement these skills: Masochist’s Garb and Sun & Moon. With 90% cooldown, you can keep the Sun & Moon buff up permanently by using Soul Trap. Start by using Lich Form, use Soul Trap, then start spamming Frigid Star and Deathly Barrage. Use Soul Trap every 3 seconds to keep up the Sun/Moon buff; it has a 1.5 second cooldown and refreshes you shields to keep you alive. You will also cast Ritual Of Perforation every 10 seconds to keep your frost spears at full damage.

Equipment

Here is the list of equipment I used and their enhancements. The Masochist Set is mainly for + Damage. Because of how Sun + Moon works, you NEED to focus on building up damage in every way possible and the Masochist set is good for that because you can get 75% damage from it. For most of my equipment, I rolled Cooldown Reduction, Effect Duration, Resist All, Health, and Critical Chance.

Here is why you need to focus on building Damage with this build:

Damage Dealt = Damage x Elemental Damage x Damage Type (sorcery/curse/bane).

So how much pain you dish out will depend mainly on how much Damage + Elemental Damage you can stack. So why focus on damage? Because thanks to the sun/moon set + coldhearted, you can buff up the elemental effect easily. Below is an example of before/after:

Here I am with 22.9k Damage/ 1,157% elemental Damage with 10 souls.

This is what my stats look like after using Soul Trap one more time to activate Sun/Moon.

As you can see, for champs that have a Frost/Fire tree, Sun & Moon is the new Best In Slot gear for amulet/ring.

Here is a list of the equipment I use and their enchants:

Helmet: Masochist’s Helmet

Accessory: Health Injector

Amulet: Moon

Offhand: Masochist’s Journal

Armor: Masochist’s Robes

Weapon: Masochist’s Staff

Boots: Pathmakers

Ring: Sun

Skills and Masteries

Active skills in my skill bar:

Frigid Star: Deathly Barrage : Lich Form : Ritual of Perforation : Soul Trap : Ritual of Souls

Skill Trees:

Corruptor:

Not much here, just a single point into Epidemic for some attack speed (it counts as cast speed and makes you spells less clunky.

Lich:

The main damage tree. You’ll want to max Frigid Star/Brittle Bones, Frozen Core, Deathly Barrage, and Lich Form. Also max Frozen Veil and ColdHearted. Ritual of Perforation does not need to be maxed, but it will be one of your active skills you use all the time. We just want the “Full Damage” effect that it gives your spears.

Demonologist:

Max Soul Trap, Demon Heart, and also it is VERY important that you get the passives Soul Empowerment and Demonic Appetite maxed.

Reaper:

The utility tree. VERY important to max Ritual of Souls and Dark Pleasure from the Masochism passive. Max Soul Rip, you need them souls.

Masteries:

And here are the Masteries. You can be flexible here.

Closing

Not much to say here. The warlock was my first character, and this was my first warlock build I used. It’s still pretty good 🙂
