Mercutio: A Sensible Roleplaying Character for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

Mercutio: A Sensible Roleplaying Character

Overview

This guide is for the roleplayers who ask themselves “What the heck kind of character would be an honorable warrior, a ruthless assassin, a mystical mage…etc.?”I give you Mercutio, a man who can fit into all these categories and more. You may now play completionist while still maintaining the fun of roleplaying.

The introduction you probably won’t read.

“Why the hell am I a prisoner on a cart?? I’m a Telvanni wizard, ffs! You’ll hear from my lawyers!!”

Let’s face it: Roleplaying can be a ♥♥♥♥♥. You want that sweet, sweet feeling of being a character you can fall in love with, but you also want to complete the game. Those achievements WILL BE MINE.

Skyrim was designed for everyone, meaning it starts much like every other game: A lengthy into/tutorial that we wish we could skip. If you’re like me, halfway through Helgen you start hearing nagging doubts about whether or not you really wanna be a Nord this time

Of course, if you’re like me, you play on a Samsung Notebook 9.
So I’m not gonna assume you’re too much like me.

A good roleplaying run starts with a character you want to be. “I want him to be muscular, but not too muscular…”

Here I have made, for you and I, a character who “would” do all the quests, to save us both a hell of a headache.

Ready to grow that big, rubbery RPG-induced hard-on? I sure am, so let’s get started.

Now meet…

…Mercutio.

Building Him (the boring part)

Our character will be a Breton, for game advantages.
His major skills will be nothing, cause Skyrim has no classes.

Heh. Jokes aside, here’s how we nitty-gritty build him.

Stamina – 20 per level

Your choice of armor. This decision I will not spare you from.

The Vrotherhood, aye
Thieve’s Guild
Dawnguard or Volkihar. This decision I will not spare you from.

His Character (The Fun Part)

Now for the fun part – Roleplaying.

Mercutio grew up in Evermor. He was a bright young man, born to a wealthy family, and excelled at many things. Young Mercutio had a talent to go completely unnoticed in crowded places. He develops this skill from a dislike of attention. In his late teens, he finishes his education. He meets a young noblewoman, and he falls in love. Political intrigue has always been a problem in High Rock, and 3 months later, his love dies from assassination. Mercutio doesn’t leave his room for weeks after this, reflecting on his life. When he emerges, he is welcomed by his family, who are unsettled by the cold look of sheer apathy on their son’s bright face. Mercutio’s parents take him in for examination, and find he is diagnosed with high depression. He never speaks after that, simply watching his family and where they go. He slits their throats with his sword while they’re sleeping, and steals away into the night. He then gets caught crossing the border, and you know the rest.

Mercutio has completely lost faith in everything – you name it. He has sat through hours and hours of useless negotiations alongside his parents. He has studied all there is to study, it seems. He has loved and lost, and seen the true face of his cruel existence. He has lost everything, twice now.

Mercutio knows he still seems like a handsome, dashing young man, and he’s not afraid to use it. His motivation is SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN.

Mercutio’s flaw is complete apathy. He just doesn’t give a ♥♥♥♥. He can’t give a ♥♥♥♥, not anymore. When he accepts a task, he isn’t doing it out of honor, or out of greed. No, he does it like it’s a joke. He does it with the same devil-may-care smile that he hates so much. He doesn’t know why he does it, and he’s tired of trying to figure it out.

Maybe that’s why he adventures…looking for the reason why he just can’t win.

Questing and conclusion

In his quests, keep in mind that he is completely amoral and apathetic, almost to the point of psychosis. He’s in the parking lot circling, screaming “I DON’T GIVE A ♥♥♥♥” with his windows down and his system up. What’s the reward? Artifact? He doesn’t care. Money? He doesn’t care. A new follower? He doesn’t care.

In conclusion, this man needs a hug.

……………

It’s up to you whether or not he finds what he’s looking for. Maybe he falls back in love? Maybe one day he looks over his shoulder at the world he’s changed, and feels important again?

Maybe he just jumps off a mountain.

It’s up to you. Enjoy.
