MGS Ground Zeroes – S ranks – Destroy the Anti-Air Emplacements (Mission 5)

Introduction

The easiest way to get an S rank in this mission is by already having achieved and A ranking so you have the rocket launcher from the beginning. In case you haven’t, there is one in the room at the North/North-East of the camp, the one with the red door outside of the main building. Also some guards are wielding one. When you get one, get back to the hill where the GZ mission began. The other key aspect of the mission is leaving the North-west AA and destroying the other 3.

Walkthrough

Either if you had to get the rocket launcher or you got it from the startof the mission, start by calling your helicopter to the South landing zone, as the mission will take you less than 2 minutes. Your main concern will be not being seen while shooting the rockets. For this, shoot the furthest AA emplacement from where you grabbed the rocket launcher, so you are hidden by the flora and cactuses. Then, run to your left so you are partially covered by the hill as I am in the picture below.

From that more or less safe point, shoot at the other 2 AA and, if done correctly, you should not have been seen yet by any guard.
Just after you destroy the final AA, a tank will appear from the West entrance of the camp. Quickly shoot 3 rockets at any part of it (you should still have 5 rockets if you didn’t miss any shot before) and it should be destroyed in a a matter of seconds. Finally, just run to the extraction point and get on the helicopter, which should have already arrived unless you were really really fast.
As I said before, your main concern is trying to hide, to some extent, from the guards while shooting the rockets and making that much noise.
