Overview
Fastest and safest way to complete mission 5.
Part 1. Your setup.
In this mission, you will face mostly infantry, but few vehicles will be present. Also, the map is full of mines, but you will be given engineer squad to deal with them. So you will require
- 1 ATGM squad
- 2 sniper squads
- 2 assault squads
- 1 infantry squad
In this mission you can upvet 2 snipers and 1 assault squad to Veteran level (4 of 5 veterancy). Those wil be very useful during the rest of the game.
Part 2. Reach the helicopter
You will be given 2 trucks (Gaz and Ural), both with low fuel and 2 driver squads for them. Right after start man the trucks and drive them south-east from mortar fire. You will need both of them during the mission. Send the snipers to the building nearby to snipe the first mortar, then send one assault squad and snipers a bit north to repel the infantry and snipe the second mortar.
Now, time to set up a formation. Your main strike force will consist of snipers, ATGM, 1-2 assault squads and an engineer squad. Put one infantry squad to cover your back (and keep it there during the mission), get the rest to trucks.
Yellow line – your main route
Dark blue – location of mines you will encounter
Light blue – positions of dangerous vehicles
Green line – auxillary route
Red – mortar positions
Now, follow the line with your strike force ahead, trucks after it and infantry squad covering your back.
On crossroad you will face armored car with HMG and mines. After eliminating threats, proceed to the target. During the mission, use Ural to resupply, because it will run out of fuel faster that Gaz.
Right before target you’ll notice a single building north-east of you (green line leads to it). Send 1 sniper, 1 infantry and 1 assault squad before approaching target. Put sniper and assault squads inside building and start killing infinite reinforcements (red arrow). Leave the trucks in the beginning of green line to keep fuel.
Approach the target with 1 assault squad, 1 sniper and ATGM. Place ATGM to the orange zone to be able to shoot to both dangerous areas. As soon as you approach the building, you’ll receive helicopter pilots, air corrector and Marine squad. Marines are almost out of ammo, so send them to refill ammo to Ural together with pilots. Set the air corrector to defensive mode and place him near ATGM. Call in rocket barrage on hill, when you’ll receieve additional task – destroy MLRS car. You will face enemy cars with HMGs from both blue areas. After repelling attack and receiving new task, retreat to auxillary route and proceed. Red arrows indicate incoming enemies.
Part 3. Find the pilot
Yellow line – your route
Dark Blue – mines
Light Blue – enemy vehicles
Orange – mortars you will face in this part
So, you rescued the helicopter crew. Advance north from the former auxillary route and pick the left road that leads up the hill and to the west. Don’t forget to leave there infantry to cover your back. Upon entering the city it may seem empty. But it’s not.
Solid enemy forces are located in those two buildings on the other side of city. You can flush them out using sniper and assault squad (both buildings can be shot by Shmel flamethrower from the building I marked with yellow circle). Red arrows indicate infinite reinforcements arrival. Dark blue – mines.
You will arrive from east (red arrow). So will pursuing enemies. Capture the building marked with orange and clear the field using sniper. You will spot armored car with KPVT at the blue mark and full Gaz truck close to captured building. Make sure to destroy enemy car with your ATGM. At this point you will be runnung out of fuel on Ural so you can switch trucks. Send Marines to south road so they will clear the road of mines and snipe 2 mortars (one at the hill by the road, other on the mountain on the other side of the road. Proceed with your main forces to west. Expect mortar fire. Leave infantry at the captured building and Marines at the hill to cover your back.
After clearing the fitst building in this “pocket” you will see this. BMP-1 is located behind the building, HMG car – on the other blue mark. Enemy mortar and snipers are in the building. Notice that you CAN NOT attack this building from the front, so consider using Shmel flamethrower. After destroying both vehicles set AT mines at the crossroad , where you faced armored KPVT car (make sure your trucks are hidden in the “pocket”) and send in sniper, assault squad to finish the job and air corrector too (he will help you later). After finding pilot expect another armored KPVT car and infantry horde coming from field just outside the “pocket” (mines you set before should help you).
It is time to get out.
Part 4. Leave the area
You will receive BTR-80A with Marine squad in the south-west end of the map. Gather all your forces except the air corrector.
Yellow – main route
Green – alternative route
Orange – mortar positions
Blue – mines
Red – Javelins location
Light Blue – enemy vehicles
Pink – air corrector required position
Start by turning north by marines to position where mortar shoots from. Eliminate the threat and get the acheivement by finding Javelins. But be careful – dont be spotted by BMP-1 on the crossroad north-west from Javelins (next pic).
Get air corrector to the forest where you found the pilot and set him as close to the crossroad with BMP-1 as you can, but even then you won’t be able to reach it directly. Call in rocket barrage and set a direction to destroy BMP-1.
It is time for Marines to advance. Clear the crossroad east from starting point, snipe the mortar (you could’ve sniped the rest of them before so it will be the last one). Defuse mines on the crossroad and proceed north-west using the road. You will encounter numerous infantry on the road and AGL car on the top of hill, and you CAN NOT SPOT IT from below. Bring air corrector closer and wipe it out with the rocket barrage. Otherwise, you may clear the hill with BTR and Marines (alternative route), but it’s longer and you may lose some of Marines. Put pilots in the BTR and return it to the extraction point. Mission complete.
