My Estimation of Backstory

Overview

My estimation of the SteamWorld Dig backstory.

1: The ‘Strange Creatures’

Before the humans were amazing creatures that created an empire that was sunken underground.
This is what I believe the deep underground technological city is. They built many robots, such as Mecha Trilobites.

2. The Humans

In the late 21st century, humans created steam powered robots with personalities and sent them to space. Meanwhile, the humans hunger for power consumed them and they polluted earth. Their world sunk down. This is what I believe the ‘Old World’ is.

3. The Robots Return

When the robots came back, they forgot about the humans and settled the new, barren earth. They were steam powered, so they brought the planet into an older fashioned, but newer world. Electricity was lost forever to the depths.

4.The New Human Empire

Meanwhile, deep underground, the humans, known to the robots as Shiners, were slowly decaying, just as the ‘Strange Creatures’ already had. When robots crossed into the ‘Old World’, the Shiners would attack them, having forgotten the robots, just as the robots forgot them.

5. Electricity Doesn’t Decay

Deep underground in the city of the ‘Strange Creatures’, the Mecha Trilobites and other robots had lasted, where there should be nothing but hot magma.

6. Joe, the Robot

A robot named joe owned a mine, and found the old world and the city of the strange creatures. He made technology along the way.

7. Rusty, Nephew of Joe

Joe’s nephew, Rusty was sent to Tumbleton with the claim to the mine. he found the technology Joe had made along his way down the mine, and explored the depths.
