ABOUT THIS GUIDE ~ Please read first

Reviewed/Updated 11 July 2021

This guide is being worked on, new information is regularly added.

I have not abandoned this guide, others things are priority just now.
Hoping to return to it very soon, probably in a weeks time.

Greetings fellow explorers,

If like me, you like to understand the puzzles and not just solve them through trial & error or by looking up the answer then I hope you find this guide useful.

The journals have been added into this guide so that they can be read at leisure without needing to start the game.

To help new explorers get started, go to the section ~ GETTING STARTED ~
Comments and corrections would be appreciated.

Unfortunately the screenshots look grainy and low quality. I’ll try to do some photoshop magic on the worst of them at some point. I’m hoping that the devs will do a remastered version (like realMyst) someday but I don’t think it likely.

Hope you find this helpful,
Bear

Please give this guide a thumbs up if you have found it useful.
It will help raise its visibility for others to find more easily.

Objectives

Reviewed/Updated 13 June 2021

  • Start on Tomahna with Atrus and Catherine
  • Nemesis Saavedro visits and steals the linking book for Releeshahn and goes to J’nanin
  • Chase after Saavedro through different Ages to find the 3 glphs which will be needed for the end game on Narayan
  • On Narayan, confront Saavedro to retrieve the book
  • There are multiple endings depending on the choices made on Narayan.

The Portals

The portals to the Ages Amateria, Edanna and Voltaic are accessed via the linking books in the locked tusks on J’nanin.

Unlike realMyst, when visiting these 3 Ages, there is an option to return to J’nanin before retrieving the glphs. There are 2 J’nanin linking books per Age. The first one is easily found and the other is near the glph at the conclusion of that Age.

The linking book to Narayan Age is in the tower on J’nanin and only accessible when the glphs are retrieved from the other 3 Ages.

The Puzzles

It seems that they must be completed before entering the correct answers, disabling the ability to skip ahead.

Some of the puzzles have multiple major stages.
Due to Steam guide space constraints each major stage is noted in a separate section.

Journals & Documents

Whilst these can be read in-game, they are included in this guide to be read at leisure.
Go to the JOURNALS section for details.

~ GETTING STARTED ~

The following 6 tasks are to help new explorers get started.

1. The Beginning ~ Tomahna

Reviewed/Updated 13 June 2021

Arrive at Tomahna. Turn around to see Catherine holding her daughter Yeesha.

Walk forward to enter Atrus’s study, go to his desk.

Look at the desk to see pictures of their sons Sirrus & Achenar, and Catherine holding Yeesha.
Read the letter. Note the crystal and shelves on the right.

Behind the desk is the linking book to Riven which is now destroyed.

Go to the other side of the room to see a book “Releeshahn” in a dome.

Atrus arrives and after some dialogue offers his journal to read. As he walks to his desk someone (Saavedro) appears by the dome, smashes it and grabs the book dropping a linking book on the floor.

2. J’nanin: Arrival

Reviewed/Updated 13 June 2021

Follow Saavedro across the bridge and up the cliff ladder on the right.

He runs into the tower which then locks behind him.

This is a good time to explore the island.

3. J’nanin: The Glass House

Reviewed/Updated 13 June 2021

The glass house is built at the base of the tower on the crater lake.
This is where Saavedro lives and has his laboratory.
There are 2 pathways, each leading to a separate door.

Enter either door and pull the lever down to open the gate.
Look to the side to see another locked gate with a passageway.

Turn around and press the button. The gate now opens.

Walk forward into the laboratory and have a look around.
Note the painting on the wall. Saavedro refers to it during the endgame on Narayan.
There is an elevator at the back of the room.

Take Saavedro’s journal from the hammock.
The missing pages are scattered around the different Ages.
Optionally go to the JOURNALS section to read all the pages.

Go to the center work bench. Connect the cables or the tentacle, turn the handle and observe what happens. Take note, knowledge of this will help later on.

Around the room are weighing scales and various types of weights.
Make a note of the relative weights.
4 glass = 1 metal
4 wooden = 1 glass

4. J’nanin: Glass House Elevator

Reviewed/Updated 14 June 2021

The Elevator

Walk behind the elevator and enter. Pull the lever down to go up to the top of the tower.

Saavedro thinks it is Atrus that’s looking through the window.

The elevator door is facing to the outside of the tower. Need to rotate it.
Press the green button to descend back down to the laboratory.

Exit the elevator.
Pull the lever down and the elevator will go up revealing a pit below with broken walls.

The Pit

Refer to Saavedro’s journal for the solutions.

GEARS
Turn the gears to line up the gap in the upper gear with a tooth of the lower gear.

WEIGHTS
Pull down the left and right twice each.
Do not move the center weight.

LEVER
Pull the lever forward.
.

WHEEL
Rotate 2 of the ends to point left. Turn the wheel so the 3rd untouched end is seen in the wall hole.

Climb out of the pit. Pull the lever to recall the elevator. Enter, pull the lever again.
The elevator rotates and ascends giving access to the area inside the tower.

5. J’nanin: The Tower

Reviewed/Updated 14 June 2021

Saavedro is making a quick get-away by linking to a book in the cage which then descends out of sight. Enter the tower and have a look around.

Look at the imager device in the center and the cage below.
Press the blue button.

A red, blue and green beam of light now shines onto the ceiling.
A projection of Atrus speaking to his sons is interrupted by Saavedro.
This can be replayed if needed.

Pick up the dropped pages from Saavedro’s journal.
Look at the 3 devices that shone the light beam, they look like telescopes.

6. J’nanin: Tower Telescopes

Reviewed/Updated 14 June 2021

Look closely. Each of the 3 telescopes have an image on its lens.
Line up the lens image with the corresponding image above the doors of the 3 tusks.

  • LMB to move the telescope to locate the tusk.
  • The left lever moves up and down to zoom in and out.
  • The right lever changes the focus.

The points of the compass are used to note the placement of the marbles.

Amateria Age

  • NNW Outer ring
  • ESE
  • S
  • W Inner ring
Edanna Age

  • NNW Outer ring
  • WSW
  • S
  • SSW Inner ring
Voltaic Age

To exit the tower the elevator can be used to go back down to the laboratory and outside.
The preferred option is to use the external door in the elevator shaft.

Use the handle on the wall to unlock the inner door.
Move the slide to open the outer door.
The doors will remain unlocked so they can be opened from the outside.

~ THE PORTALS ON J’NANIN ~

Search J’nanin for the clues to unlock the portals to the other Ages.
They can be done in any order.
Unlike realMyst, it is possible to return to J’nanin before completing that Age.

J’nanin to Amateria Age

Objective: Unblock the way to the tusk door.

Go to the far end behind the tusk to see a hole.
Climb down the ladder.

There is a large ball blocking the way.
Go back up the ladder and walk around the cliff edge behind the tusk to see another ladder.

Climb down and go to the levers.
Operate the levers to move the ball to the far right.

Return to the first ladder and open the door.
There is a big deep hole making the pedestal inaccessible.

Go back to the levers and get the ball to roll forward and into the hole.
Ensure the ladder is straight so it can be used.

Walk towards the back pedestal.
Move the marbles to match the coordinates from the telescope in the tower.

When the center button is pressed the cage suspended above lowers.
The Amateria Age linking booking is within.

Objective: Create a path with the red flowers to the tusk door.

Go to the rocks behind the glass house. As there are a couple of ways down it may be necessary to go inside and out the other door.
Touch the top of the nest to see a cute critter pop it’s head out. It is a squee.

Look for the tall flower in the water. Touch it to open.

Touch the top of the nest again. The squee will now run over to the red flowers using the leaves of the large flower as a bridge. The squee makes squeaking sounds and the red flowers on the rock expand.
Whilst this is happening turn around to see the red flowers on the wall by the tusk.

Go to the base of the wall and climb up the ladder to see a large plant.
Move the plant around until the squee can be heard.

The red flowers on the wall expands creating a pathway to the tusk door.

Open the door and enter. Walk towards the back pedestal.
Move the marbles to match the coordinates from the telescope in the tower.

When the center button is pressed the cage suspended above lowers.
The Edanna Age linking booking is within.
