how to new vegas for Fallout: New Vegas

Need help new players?

Overview

Need help early game? Want something different? Easy peasy! Tercio FTW!

Starting up!

Hi, are you not doing too well at the start of the game? Are you completely rubbish? Well, good news! Here’s a simple step guide! Warning minor spoilers! Head to Tercio If you came here for the formation!

1.Take everything not nailed down! At the beginning scout the entire map for loot! You will need it all to sell later! Go the town and rest up and recruit Aloth! Then recruit Eder, after speaking with the dead arimancer. Then go back to the wilderness, to the top right are bandits and a hostage, after killing them go south and kill wolves in the ruins and climb up a section of the wall on the inside for +2 dex gloves! The inn will have the ending to this quest talk to the bartender. Then go to the northeast cave and kill the bear, make sure to save scum this because it can be tricky, rest up and go west and kill the xaurips and take everything and sell it.

Important! If you are a fighter, or leveling Eder, give them the class abilities, rapid recovery for health and one each for engaging, in class and defense section “Hold the Line” ability as these abilities force the enemies onto the fighter and not around the sides of your formation!

2. Go into the hut in the town near the blacksmiths and go benevolent, you will get a ring. Then go north from the blacksmiths to a womans hut get the quest from her and be honest and you will get a cape. Finally go back to the inn, sell everything there after you turn in the quest and get the savory pie (yum!), go the blacksmith and get a quest from him.

3.Go south, and kill everything; to the right of the road is a man who needs help talk to him, kill the wolf and get the potions. Just to the south-east are wolves, below that mercenaries, who are 2 paladins and one mage on normal, watch out she can one shot your mage so target her first with knock downs from Eder. Below the mercs a troll, a corpse nearby has an enchanted locket (very hard use flame attacks on the flanks, put Aloth there but not too close on the mercs wolves and especially troll, you might want to give Eder a greatsword for the troll) there’s also a fine weapon near the cyrstals and a monk in the centre if you want to recruit him for free, just agree with him and he’ll help you out.

4. Go south again and get the quest, watch out for xaurips and don’t charge in for the sporelings, draw them away from the big spore-which is a stunner plant-and then aggro with your fighter, surround and hit with spells, I’d rest before going in. Undead are really fast, don’t let them hit your mage or he’ll go down quick. Rest up if you need to or fast travel to the inn and rest by talking to the bartender if you’ve run out of supplies. There’s a good arbalast near the xaurip camp and below him is loot and an undead.

5. Go back to the village and turn in your quest. Sell everything. You should now have enough money and XP to go east now; follow the roads if you’re not sure to each exit point. Clear out the mobs in the forests and go to the black meadow, kill the bandits to the north, watch out for the leader as he’s got a really good beserker ability, there’s a lot of them too, chokepoint them if you can. Take the goods back to the blacksmith and finish the quest and give Eder the Larder door. Go east from the Black Meadow to the creepy old castle, not Readrics although tbh it is creepy. Go to the castle and get Kana, and give him the fine Greatsword, don’t go into the castle yet as it takes a lot, go back, rest up at the inn and get max camping supplies, and make sure your characters at least have one in survival for the +1 damage resistance. Also, in the forests are trolls, remember greatsword, fire, tank and flank, especially with Aloth.

Tercio!

Basically, an old Spanish style formation! See in the bottom right all the little dots? Click on that to customise it! You will need to go to the bartender for this at this early point in the game; Have your fighters front; Eder and Kana, with shield and swords, Kana can have a fine greatsword if you think you need the armour piercing. Behind them, two pikemen, using and it must be for the reach, pikes, use a hiredfighter and Durance. Finally, Aloth and a rogue, (for the lockpicking, pick Labourer for the mechanics bonus) make sure to give them the arbalest you found earlier and Kana’s Arbusier. Pause, right click and hold and drag close to the team to get them to form up once the fighting begins to get them into formation, then it’s as simple as letting the enemy attack or clogging up a chokepoint! Your front line should attract all the aggro and your rear lines should be backing them up and doing damage all the time! All types are vulnerable to at least one or even more types of damage. Give each ranged character gunner for the lower reload, and also a good tip is to make sure both front rankers have mutually helping abilities so they survive longer, and it’s a good idea to give your pikemen survivability too, just in case the worst happens. This build is good with starting up!
