New Map Editor Guide

Overview

This guide explains detailed basics for the in-game Map Editor dedicated for new Players who want to start with Map making.

Launching

The Map Editor will be unlocked as soon as you’ll reach 10th Level in-game

First, go to options

Click the “Map Editor” option to enter the Map Editor.

It will lead you to the following list where you can make a new Map or edit already created ones.

When you click option allowing you to create a new map you can choose:

  • Map Size: 5×2, 3×2, 2×2, 1×2. (Width x Height)
  • Map Theme, AKA background of your map. Available ones: City, Evening, Forest.

Example: New Map with City Theme.

Moving

Before you do anything you need to know HOW TO MOVE THROUGH YOUR MAP.
There are 2 options you can use.

  • Use your moving keys, by default they’re WASD.
  • Hold SPACE and drag with your mouse.

Grid

Grid helps you to make your structures with more accurate way.

(You can disable Grid to see how your map looks on the theme you’ve choosen.)

Grid can be enabled/disabled with following button.

This is how it looks with DISABLED GRID.

This is how it looks with ENABLED GRID.

Zoom

Zoom allows you to decrease/increase sight of view by 50%.

By default it’s 100%.

Click the Zoom Icon to decrease/increase sight of view.

Block Types

When you’re in Your Map Template which You’ve selected before, (Size and Theme) You will notice following block types:

Now, let’s explain what is what, from left to right:

  • Eraser, it allows you to erase placed blocks from the map.
  • Team Limit Blue, it prevents spawncamping by blocking team players when placed.
  • Team Limit Green, It’s Player-Blocking variant for modes without team like Deathmatch/Gungame/Foxhunt
  • Team Limit Red, it also prevents spawncamping by blocking team players when placed but for other team.
  • Collision, it’s a block which will be invisible for every player in the match. It collides with Player but it doesn’t block grenades, bullets, etc.
  • Stone Block, a standard stone block used to build.
  • Dirt Block, a normal dirt block.
  • Background Wall, It’s basically block which you can use to make background walls. It doesn’t collide with player and counts as an background texture.
  • Fake Ground, It will look like normal dirt for Players, but it doesn’t collide with them which means you can do some traps with it.
  • Mud Ground, Swamp version of the normal dirt. It will create mud splashes when Player is walking on it.
  • Snow Ground, basically normal ground but with snow.
  • Platform, metal platform. You can shoot through it. Also collides with Players but only from upside.
  • Fake Platform, fake version of the platform.
  • Ladders, they allow Player to climb on them.
  • Swamp, Ground which will cause the player to stuck in it slowly being sucked into ground and finally dying.

Block Placing

First, select block placing option to turn on the ability to place blocks.

Before you start with placing any of blocks explained above, you should select one of the Block Placing Modes.

From left to right we have:

Single mode.

Circle mode.

Rectangle mode.

Sprites

Sprites are textures which you can place on your map to make it better, choosing good sprites is most likely very important thing in making a good looking detailed map.

To enter Sprites menu select the following option.

After You’ve selected the Sprite option the following menu will appear.

To place any Sprite, simply drag it out from the menu to the place you want it to be.

You’ll also have 5 diffrent categories to choose from.

In 2 categories of Sprites (Walls and Decorations) You are able to upload your own images

Remember that the maximum size of the image is 128x128px

To upload Your own Sprite click the + symbol in the choosen Sprite category.

1.Gameplay Objects

From up to down:

  • Blue Team Spawnpoint.
  • Spawnpoint for captured point. Place it in the range of placed point. In-game player will be able to spawn at the place where it is located if his team has captured this point.
  • Point A.
  • Point B.
  • Point C.
  • Red Team Spawnpoint.
  • Deathmatch/Gungame/Foxhunt Spawnpoint.

2.Obstacles

Obstacles are used to make cover for players and other important purposes. Obstacles aren’t just a texture, they actually collide with everything possible making excellent cover in firefight. Players, bullets, throwable/shootable items won’t go through them. You have some variations of them such as boxes barrels etc.

3.Walls

Walls are background textures, you also have plenty of them to choose from and you can upload your own ones as well.

4.Trees and Bushes

You can find tree and bush background textures which help alot in making abandoned climat or in building maps with Forest Theme.

5.Decorations

In this category you will find various decorations useful in filling your building rooms, such as tables, coaches, boxes or closets. You are also able to upload your own ones here as well.

USEFUL TIP

Search through the game files to find many cool sprites mainly from Freeplay mode or Lobby and Official Maps, so you can use them in your own one.

Lights

Lights can be used to create specific effects on Your map.

Click the following icon to use Light Creating Mode.

Click anywhere on the map to create a Light.

ATTENTION! White circle is just mouse pointer of the Light Creating Mode.

USEFUL TIP: Lights are working best on Evening Theme where their effect is much more noticable.

Testing

You can test your map by walking on it, shooting etc. like in normal map.

To do it, You have to click following option.

Then, You just point the place where You want to spawn and click it.

You will appear and You’re able to walk on your map like a normal Player, to leave the Walking Mode simply click ESC.

Saving

When You’re done you should save your map.

Saving Your map will also publish it to B/O’s workshop.

To save Your map click the following button.

It will lead you to the following map publishing screen.

Give Your map a Name, Description and select Gamemodes which it is related to.

ATTENTION! Don’t make space in Map Name or You won’t be able to publish it.

Also be sure that Publish Button is green, then you can click it to publish Your map.
