Overview
NieR: ReShade is an enhancement in visual quality compared to the base game. It adds elements of sharpening, Vibrance & Clarity. My intention was to create a more detailed, and slightly more pleasant Default looking game. No crazy effects, no bloom, Just an enhanced core experience. Until NVIDIA drivers come out I can not properly test FPS impact. Be advised, After the first “miniboss” My FPS was random from mid 50’s to low 30’s on a GTX 970, and OC i5 4690K @4.6GHzLike this guide? Check out my others. Here
Requirements
- I reccemend a GTX 970 and up, Or an AMD equivilant.
- You will want to download ReShade 3.0[reshade.me]
- Make sure you have a capable system, Running Reshade ontop of a game that you can’t keep at 60FPS isn’t advised. No one likes it but if you are barely able to keep 60 I reccemend you just enjoy the game.
- Glance over my preset page on sfx.thelazy[sfx.thelazy.net]
- Download the preset and save it in the NieR: Automata instal location. (..SteamAppsCommonNieRAutomata)
Instal
- instal Reshade 3.0.
- Find and select the NieRAutomata.exe
- Press Instal
- Select Direct X 10+
- Select to download preset shaders and select the following, Vibrance, LumaSharpen, Clarity.
- Go to the NieR location and right click the new dxgi.dll and go to properties.
- Make sure you unblock the dxgi.dll.
- Congrats! It’s installed.
Config
- When you now load the game you will see that Reshade compiles the shaders which can take up to 20 seconds, When thats finished it will give you a prompt to hit Shift+F2. DO IT!
- A basic tutorial will now follow teaching you the interface, During this interface background input of the game is disabled with KB+M but not controller.
- In the presets menu you can click the dropdown box and load up my preset.
- If you get FPS issues try turning off the sharpening effects or using another preset file to tweak my sharpening strengths.
- I advise going to the config section tab at the top right section and setting toggle all effects to Pause, And changing the screenshot format from bmp to png.
Sharpen Example
This is a visual demonstration how sharpening can give more detail in the image.
On the left, No sharpening. On the right, Luma Sharpen is enabled at only .7 strength More than .7 I find causes more noise than actual sharpening.
Clarity Example
The best way I can describe clarity, is that it helps remove fog and blur from the surrounding view.
Left = Off, Right = with clarity.
