Overview
In this guide, you will learn how to survive on any survival map
Weapons
When playing on a survival map, having a great set of weapons can earn your team an extraction, but knowing what your role is and what to bring is a different story. Here is a simple checklist of the value of your weapon:
1) Is it strong enough to kill in a few hits? (1-2)
2) Can it be used for other purposes? (Hammers, Welders)
3) Is it a back-up or a main weapon? (Back-ups being very light and Mains being very heavy)
4) What is it’s swing speed? (Fast or Slow)
Rule 1 Explained
Strong weapons are essential to surviving. Having a weapon that can take a zombie down in one hit is a gift from God. However, only a few can really do that, and they are EXTREMELY HEAVY and DRAIN STAMINA VERY QUICKLY! If you are going to use one, it is your primary weapon so no rifles, shotguns or SMGs. You can however, bring a handgun with you as a Last Resort.
Rule 2 Explained
Tools, (Hammers & Welders) are going to be your first priority. If you see ether of these, PICK THEM UP. Also, let your team know so they can get in positon to gather up the supplies from the locked rooms.
Rule 3 Explained
As stated in “Rule 1 Explained”, a heavy weapon like “Fire Axes” & “SledgeHammers” are going to be you main weapon. Lighter weapons can be a back-up for when you run dry on ammo.
Rule 4 Explained
Having a weapon with a fast swing speed is recommended if it deals low damage. Heavy weapons have a high damage rate but a very slow swing speed. This means DON’T RUN IN TO A CROWD OF ZOMBIES SWINGING. You may kill a few before you are tired and become a nice snack for the undead. However, this doesn’t mean you can run in to a crowd with a fast swinging weapon. It most likely take a few hits to kill one zombie, and by then you will be surrounded by them. In other words, MELEE WEAPONS ARE FOR KILLING A SINGLE ZOMBIE, NOT A CROWD!
Normally, you aren’t going to have a choice of weapons when you spawn, but keep these rules in mind.
Classes
You also will want to establish your class
Light
As a “Light” class, you goal is to grab all of the ammo and weapons around the map and bring them back to the safezone(s). This means you are going to pack light. You want aleast 75% of your inventory to be open to picking up weapons and ammo. This means you most likely will only have a light melee or a handgun. Remember, melee weapons don’t run out of ammo.
Medium
As a “Medium” class, your goal is to protect anybody get FEMA Bags and Health Crates. This means you are bring a gun, and/or a melee weapon. However, you want aleast 50% of your inventory open to picking up weapons and ammo.
Heavy
As a “Heavy” class, your job is simple, PROTECT THE SAFEZONE(S)! You will most likely have the big guns (Rifles, Shotguns, SMGs) and almost no inventory space open. You will hold on to the hammer & boards and repair any broken barracades. IMPORTANT, MAKE SURE YOU TEAM CAN GET BACK IN TO THE SAFEZONE! DON’T BLOCK IT ALL OFF! LEAVE ROOM SO YOU TEAMMATES CAN CRAWL UNDER OR JUMP OVER THE BARRACADES!
SafeZone(s)
Make sure you and your team agree on a safezone! Also, if you are going to split up into two different safezones, split into two different teams. (This is not recommended for small servers aka. 1-4 players. ) Make sure to have the following:
1) Ammo and guns sorted!
2) A few melee weapons
3) Enough Boards and a hammer
4)Health Crate and Medical Supplies (Bandages, pills)
5)FEMA Bags (LEAVE OUTSIDE OF SAFEROOM!)
Tactics
Melee
When fighting zombies with melee weapons, use these tactics to sucessfully engage your enemy!
Powerswing!
Hold down your primary fire button (Left Click by Default) to charge up a powerswing! This will do more damage and can cause a knockback, causing the zed to stumble backwards. (NOTE: Knockbacks do NOT always occur so WATCH OUT!)
Hit & Shove
As the name suggest, first you hit the zed with a melee weapon and IMMEDIATELY shove them (V by default). If they don’t get knocked back by the hit, they will be by the shove and that gives you the chance to hit them again!
Guns
When using guns, use these tactics to get the upper hand!
Collateral!
Some guns, like the Winchester & Sako, have bullets penetration. This mean that the bullet goes through the the zombie and continues on! Use this to you advantage! Line up a row of zeds and watch the bodies hit the floor!
Pistol Time
Many people don’t use this, but this is a must! If you ADS (Aim Down Sights) on a handgun and don’t move, you screen goes red and you have entered, the “Pistol Time” *Cue music* In this mode, your bullet does extra damage and can even cause knockback! However, the effect wears away if you move and/or after you shoot!
Bow & Arrow
In the newest update, there is now a bow & arrow! You can retrieve the arrow from the zombie you shot, so use this to your advantage!
