[OLD: FIXED] Fix for Level/ Item Reset! for theHunter: Primal

[OLD: FIXED] Fix for Level/ Item Reset!

Overview

Fellow hunters, with the last game patch some players have had the problem that their game always resets their items and level every time they restart. With this guide you should be able to fix it!

Introduction

With the newest Patch several players encountered a problem, the game wasn’t saving their progress and levels and kept reseting progress every time the game started again.

Since the beloved Developers are very busy with the new ”Call of the wild” game, they obviously have not been able to attempt a fix for this issue, so it was up to their loyal players to find a fix and we did!

It may look complicated but should not be difficult and it’s definitely worth a try!

Steps for fixing Level/Items reset

EDIT / NEW UPDATE:

The new update has finally removed cloud saving and the game should save correctly now, if you still want to try this method and get a save file you ONLY need to copy the tHPsave.sav from the download below and find a folder called ‘322920’ in your (x86)Steamuserdata folder then paste tHPsave.sav in ‘remote’ folder (if your items are still reseting) or if you want a good save with lots of guns and ammo.

[link], it will give you a level 50 save with a good amount of cash and weapons.

Remember to back up your tHPsave.sav before you quit the game to ensure that in case the game deletes your save again, you can get your old save back. Also, if you want to, set your tHPsave.sav to read only! So the game cannot change it.

Additionally if you are feeling adventerous then use this guide to edit your save and give yourself any ammo you want, yes even 50 cal ammo in the assault rifle! [link]

OLD METHOD / PRE UPDATE:

Follow these steps exactly as stated below:

NOTE that in most cases your old save is lost and can not be gotten back, this guide will give you a new OP save file where you will be level 50 with guns and ammo- and will overwrite your old save if you still had one! some people may still be able to get their old save back, pay attention to step 4 and 9.2

1. Exit Steam! (Open this guide in your browser) – Important!

2. Go find a q (Note: depends on where Steam is installed)

It should look like this:

3. Create a new blank text document on your desktop, then click, top left ‘file’ ,’save as’ and save it as tHPsave.sav NOTE: select ”save as type”: ”all files”

Make sure it looks like this, with 0 byte file size:

4. Go to the ”remote” folder in the ”329920” folder – if you already have a save.sav in this folder and it is not 1 Kilobyte in size- this means your old save can be rescued. Move it somewhere else and back it up for now, then continue following the steps and pay attention to step 9.2!- if you do not have a Save.sav that is over 1KB, or any Save.sav at alll! ignore this

5. Put the new, blank 0 byte tHPsave.sav you just created in Step 3 inside this ”remote” folder and overwrite the old one

6. Now delete the remocache.vdf file inside the ”329920” folder. – Important!

7. Start Steam and theHunter Primal!

8. A window will pop up saying your files are conflicting with steam cloud, DO NOT TOUCH IT YET

9. Put the save.sav file AND the tHPsave.sav from the download below, in the the ”remote” folder! Select ”yes” to overwrite tHPsave.sav

NOTE!

9.1 You can get the tHPsave.sav and save.sav, just download from here[www.sendspace.com]. The save.sav file and tHPsave.sav files are inside the remote folder- if you use this you will spawn with some items and be level 50)

9.2 If you already had a save.sav that was over 1KB in size (this is your old save) then you need to create a tHPsave.sav like in Step 3 and copy the contents from your save.sav inot that tHPsave.sav, then follow Step 9.

11. Then go back to the ”conflicting steam cloud” pop up window and select ”upload to the steam cloud”

As pictured below:

13. Go in a match and see that there are now items in your inventory and you are Level 50 (if you downloaded the files from the link)

14. Dance

The steam cloud will now upload the working save.sav from the remote folder and store it in the cloud. Even when you exit and re-enter the game!

I STRONGLY suggest backing up the ”remote” folder every time before you leave the game, because sadly, the game has reset for me again after some days… yes the developers f*ck up is getting annoying…

Cheers! Comment down below if it worked for you or if you need help!

Possible explanation of the problem

With the newest game patch, the developers introduced Steam Cloud saves and that causes reset problems for players.

What seems to be the error, is that my game and likely the game for other people, would not read the correct file/ or save and then push a ”Level 1 save file” from the cloud to the game.

Since there is no ”cloud save” option in the game options when going to the game properties in Steam, there is no way to turn off the cloud, and so it just keeps pushing a fresh, Level 1 save to the game.

So I did a lot of fiddling with the files and this should work. I had success and it worked for a friend of mine now too.

Thanks to @Dumbfounded Polymath and @skunkasa for helping me fix the problem!
