Overview
A quick guide/build for beginner Awesomenauts players. The guide is not on a pro level (neither am I) and that is why you won’t find any calculations of numbers on here like you might find on other guides, I just go with what works for me and whatever makes the game fun to play.
Introduction
Hello ‘Nauts and welcome to my fist ever guide for Awesomenauts! Fistly I’d like to say that I don’t play Awesomenauts for too long myself and I don’t consider myself, by any means a “pro” player.
That makes this guide/build scale to a beginner’s level and isn’t meant for players that are above my level of gameplay. There won’t be any numbers to calculate that you might find in other guides, since I don’t care about them, I just go with what works for me and whatever makes the game fun to play. Now that that’s said, let’s begin with the actual guide/build.
PS: English is not my native language, so excuse my grammar skills if you find any errors.
Firstly it would be a good idea to understand what kind of character Rocco is and adapt to it’s playstyle, the way he feels and Cons and Pros.
- Squishy and will die very easily if caught out of position.
- Not many ways to escape besides slowing your enemy. (not good enough)
- Meant to be played from a safe distance. (at least early game)
- Is a big bully in lane and feels very annoying to play against.
- Massive auto-attack range when fully upgraded.
- Nuke global skill-shot ability with CC. (Upgrade Needed).
- Has a steroid ability to up your dps (Upgrade Needed).
- Becomes a DPS monster late game.
- Can 1v1 almost anyone late game.
- Dies very easy.
- No real way to escape.
- Not enough dmg to solo kill early on.
- Needs alot Solar to start carrying.
Skills & Upgrades
- Draw your bow and fire an arrow that will fly through terrain and hits enemy Awesomenauts.
- Removes the movement penalty while shooting and adds a slow effect to your arrows for a set amount of time. Hitting enemies with your rapid arrows increases the duration of vengeance.
- Fire rapid arrows that will change into slowing arrows while vengeance is active.
- Bird hop. Hold the button to jump higher.
I find these upgrades to work best with the playstyle I had in mind for Rocco. Beginners that don’t have all the upgrades unlocked yet should grab “Nicotine Patches” while players that have “Badge and Gun” unlocked should grab that instead. (Actually see what works best for you).

(Find the build order in the link)
First Take your Precision Shot grab the Piggy Bank and finally Cockfight Spurs 1/3 and head out. NOTE: The reason we don’t grab Vengeance is mainly because you don’t need a slow early on, and I find it weak in the early games. More damage is more welcome.
Keep farming and try not to go back to buy until you can at least get 2 new upgrades. Once you have enough solar, get back to shop and grab Cockfight Spurs 2/3 and Rocketpack 1/2. Go farm (duh!) and the next time max out Cockfight Spurs 3/3 and Rocketpack 2/2.
Now that everyone got a bit stronger and dangerious grab the Space Air Max(Boots) for the increased movement speed, both for offensive and defensive plays. It’s time to grab your last skill, Vengeance. To make the skill effective (besides the slow) grab Quickdraw Bow 1/2 followed up with Endless Quiver. Alright, best time to go very aggressive, the better you play the faster you will get bigger (snowball effect). SWCA Coin will allow you to zone out your enemy and farm endlessly. Max out your Quickdraw Bow 2/2.
By now you should be able to 1v1 almost anyone(Tanks can be dangerous). Grab at least one point into Classics 1/3 to get a bit more burst for your Precision Shot. Now comes another important upgrade and should be maxed out, Sticky Cops Mustache 2/2.
This will require you to hit your Precision Shots to get the effect out of it. Finish the build up with Badge and Gun or Nicotine Patches if you are not high enough level (don’t have the upgrade unlocked yet). Final touch is to max out Classics 3/3.
I always leave these upgrades and grab them last, Mirakuru and Power Pills Turbo.
If you have extra hard time surviving and you keep dying grab them early. Power Pills Turbo if you get one shotted alot and Mirakuru if you can’t survive team fights.
NOTE: A build should not always be the same, and have the same build order, mostly because things don’t always go as planned and it might lose you the game if you don’t have the upgrades to level out the situation you are in. That should be common sense.
Gameplay
I’ll make this very simple, mostly because there is not much to it, so here it is. Play passive and try to farm as much as possible, try not to die. Always keep a look on the minimap and help out the other lane with your Precision Shot. It can scare enemies away, help someone get a kill, or even snipe low health foes and earn you a kill. Your job is to be annoying. Rocco has insane range with his auto-attacks plus a global range ability so use it, use it to bully your enemy. You won’t be able to kill your enemy laner alone, but they will hate you! Once you get SWCA Coin it gets even worse, since they can’t even stand behind their own creeps anymore.
The moment you farm up enough and you get Endless Quiver you become a hyper god and the real damage starts to shine. Wait for a team mate to initiate and always wait for your Precision Shot to land up to close range, and then enter the team fight with your Vengeance. Later on when everything is maxed, with your survivability, it will be hard for anyone to assassinate you and you should be able to win almost any 1v1.
Tips & Tricks
- Always keep an eye on the minimap for places to shoot your Precision Shot, like someone that is retreating (low health probably), defend towers and scare the enemy team off your towers or just harass the other lane by constantly targeting it from your own lane.
- While ganking another lane always time your Precision shot ahead of time so that you gank at the same time the arrow hits (stun can be a useful upgrade here).
- Vengaence will give you a slow indicator and make the enemy glow purple while they are stealthed. In other words, you can see a stealthed enemy if you manage to land a hit on them.
- Having someone an ally like Raelynn in lane can be mega strong and can end games very quick if played correctly and as a team.
- SWCA Coin will give you the ability to zone your enemy as long as there is enemy creeps. That makes it a safe way to easily farm if you fall behind.
