Owedevil's JC3 mod guide (updated 7.2.19) for Just Cause 3

Owedevil’s JC3 mod guide (updated 7.2.19)

Overview

This is my Just Cause 3 guide for my mod build which ramps up the pathetic vanilla difficulty and adds visual improvement. As always, sub to comments to stay up to date about any changes. The main mods have been tested, excluding the optionals, and are recommended.

———KNOWN ISSUES————

During testing I encountered a problem where the game crashed during a mission, and kept crashing at teh same spot in the mission. However, the workaround was very easy and simple — go to your game folder and remove (DO NOT DELETE) your dropzone folder, load the game and do the mission, then quit the game and put your dropzone folder back into your game folder. Couldn’t be easier.

The Reshade can make it harder to read text, which I dont mind at all due to it improving the quality so much. However, if you cant read certain things, simply tap the toggle key which should be (End) in my .ini and the preset will instantly toggle on or off.

Edit; I have since decided the inability to read text clearly is too much of a hassle, and have toggled off the “Cartoon” effect, I suggest doing the same. Simply open your Reshade menu (should be Home) then scroll down to the Cartoon effect, uncheck it, then close the menu.

Mods and installation.

To mod in Just Cause 3 you need to edit the launch properties and add a command line. Go to your library, right click on Just Cause 3, click on properties, click on set launch options, then paste –vfs-fs dropzone –vfs-archive patch_win64 –vfs-archive archives_win64 –vfs-fs. in the field. INCLUDE THE PERIOD! Next go into your Just Cause 3 main directory where the JustCause3.exe is and make a folder and call it dropzone. That folder is where all these mods will go. The only tool you might need is 7z[www.7-zip.org], which is completely free and opens .rar files for free. A good general rule is to start your game once to teh title screen before you install any mods.

OPTIONAL AND/OR HONORABLE MENTION MODS ARE ON THE LIST BELOW THAT I AM NOT TESTING YET WITH MY FIRST BUILD, BUT WILL EVENTUALLY BE USING. USE AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION

Reshade

Firstly for Reshade, it’s important to note that you can easily tweak my preset to your preference by simply toggling on and off effects, or even going into the specific configurations on teh bottom of the effects page if that’s your type of thing. I know not everyone will enjoy my Reshade, and that’s easily remedied.

Here [www.dropbox.com] is my Reshade [reshade.me] preset. You need to DL both Reshade and the preset. Install instructions are on teh site but the short version is;

  1. start the reshade.exe
  2. select the Just Cause 3 .exe in your game folder
  3. select the Direct3d 10+
  4. DL and install all of the effects when prompted
  5. Move “Owedevil’s JC3 Reshade.ini” into the game folder
  6. click on edit reshade settings on the install box
  7. click on the |…| box and select my reshade
  8. on the field “presets select active” click the dropdown arrow and select mine
  9. You might have to rename dxgi.dll to d3d11.dll in your game folder, but I did not for JC 3. If Reshade does not work or the game crashes, rename that file.
  10. start the game, open Reshade with (what should be) the Home key, follow the instructions which is basically clicking “continue” 2-3 times then “finish,” then be sure to put Reshade in Performance Mode so it does not load all the effects you are not using, on start up. Also, make an effect toggle key in the reshade settings. I used End.

here is a short vid [www.dropbox.com] of my Reshade compared to Vanilla graphics. The vid is of lower quality than my actual gameplay, but it gives you a close idea of how it looks

Here is a short vid [www.dropbox.com] of how the Reshade looks in action. There is a pretty big flaw with the vid, though, as it is more choppy and looks a little more gritty than my actual gameplay. That alone kinda defeats the point of this vid, but I already made it so I might as well link it.
