Happy Ending.
I will not be describing the normal ending, for that is something to experience yourself.
There is a long process to achieve this ending, please go into the settings within the game and click “unsceen text” and “after choices” under skip to avoid pauses while skipping.
Proceed to either reinstall or verify the integrity of your game files to restore the game to factory if you have left the game in an end state.
- Select “Yes, delete my existing data.”.
- Start a new game.
For this game, you will need to experience all of Sayori’s, Yuri’s, and Natsuki’s CG’s. An example of such images are as below:
- At the start of your new game, Proceed to skip all dialogue until you reach the first poem writing prompt.
- Create a save file for this poem.
It is critically important after achieving every CG you revert back to this save file before Sayori’s death, If you fail to revert back and experience this, the game will corrupt and you will have to start from the beginning.
It is recommended you go for either Sayori or Natsuki in the first two run throughs.
Dedicating the words in your poems to entirely either one will guarantee to unlock all their CG’s, As well as choosing them first to show your poem too.
For your convenience, Here is a table of each keyword and correlation to each girl. Use the keywords to dedicate your poem to whomever’s route you decide to take first.
Originally posted by author:The following organized keywords credited to Velmesh and her poem keyword guide in association with several other steam users. Please visit Her guide and give thanks.
- Dedicate each poem to her.
- Choose her first to share your poem with.
- It is essential you accept Sayori’s love confession to gain the last CG on her route.
- After reciprocating her love, please restore your game to the poem save file.
- Dedicate each poem to her.
- Choose her first to share your poem with.
- Select her to work on festival preperations with.
- Once you have reached Sayori’s love confession, revert to your poem save file.
- Once you have finished Sayori and Natsuki, you can proceed to dedicate your poems to Yuri, select her to share poems with first and choose her to work on festival preperations with.
- Reach Sayori’s confession, and select to either accept her confession or reject it. Spoiler alert for those who have not played at all, do not hover over if so. Sayori will hang herself the next morning either way.
- DO NOT REVERT BACK
- You may proceed with Act 2 of the game
This is when your settings on skipping will be important.
Skip through the entirety of Act 2, until you reach the room alone with Monika where she is staring at you, This is Monika’s CG.. Allow her to finish her first monologue and play the poem minigame before the next step to ensure you receive her CG.
Delete Monika’s chr. file and proceed onward.
Upon the game resetting, start a new game and go forward. When you and Sayori are speaking alone, you can now experience this “Happy” Ending.
Premature and Secret Endings.
All spoilers in this section are not to be hovered over by those who do not apply to the disclaimer above.
The very first ending is basically going through Act 1, rejecting or accepting Sayori’s confession and witnessing her suicide the next morning. Of course the game will still reset and continue on with Act 2, but this is considered an End to Sayori’s part.
After witnessing Sayori’s death, proceed on with act 2. Dedicate your poems to Natsuki and show your poems to her first. Yuri will intervene with your interactions with Natsuki either way, but proceeding down this route will reveal Natsuki’s premature end. You can experience her end (i believe) within sharing your second poem with her first..
Reset your game to factory – Reinstall or Verify the integrity of game files.
Go to library within steam and right click on “Doki Doki Literature Club”. Select “Properties” and “Local files”. Select “Browse local files.” Click on the characters folder and proceed to delete “Monika.chr”. Start a new game. This enables Sayori to be in Monika’s position, leader of the Literature Club, and self aware. Proceed with her dialogue.”
After the game shuts down, re-enter and view your characters folder.
If you delete Sayori.chr first, the same ending will occur except for some text that appears while waiting on the screen for 10 minutes. Deleting all of the chr. files will encure the same end.
In-game Secrets.
After Sayori’s death, instead of the initial “not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed” disclaimer, the text will read in various sentences when exiting and re-endering the game. See how many you can read. There is also a 1/64 chance you will open up to the “ghost screen”.
Within the files of the game, on the day of Sayori’s death an image file will appear under the name “Hxppy Thxughts”.
After the day of Sayori’s death, a text file will appear under the name “CAN YOU HEAR ME”, read as if it’s Monika’s lament.
Another text file will appear under the name of several “i’s”.
Upon Sayori’s death, the world around her begins to shatter and an error message displays behind her body. Investigating the aforementioned file within question in the game resources will show an errie message from someone close to us..
At the point of making your decision to accept or reject Yuri’s confession, a file under the name of “Have a nice weekend!” will appear in your game files, foreshadowing the very near future.
During Sayori’s death, quiting the game will generate a distorted alert, previous titled “are you sure you want to quit?”, now heavily tampered with.
During act 2, you may catch a glimpse of a thumbnail of Sayori’s dangling body in the back of the room, which will appear and disappear upon transitions.
Within act 2, Yuri will want to make some tea as you read a book together and requests to fill a pitcher of water. After becoming impatient waiting for her return, you exit the classroom in search of her. Upon revealing herself to be in the midst of cutting her arm, the story seems to rewind to before she departs to fetch the water. This will happen twice. The next time you exit the classroom to search for her…you should give the “skip” button a try. You might reveal something.
This isn’t much of a secret, but selecting any corrupted poem text within act 2 will teleport you to an eerie screen to select poem words.
Within act 2, reaching the arc where you must choose who to help with festival preparations, your mouse will automatically drag down to Monika’s name while hovering close to the options, accidentally selecting Yuri or Natsuki will generate a creepy selection screen.
Upon Yuri’s death, open history and it will reveal the description of the game which is on steam and the website for the game. All of Yuri’s corrupt Python text is actually this history message, indicating a specific line we all should have paid more attention too perhaps?
Personally, this is one of the creepier secrets that’s only achievable by chance (25% chance), like the Ghost Screen. Within act 2, while Yuri is apologizing to Natsuki and Natsuki’s inner monologue of black bolded white texts appear, you could have the chance to experience “Mibulls Sailcloth” or “Mouth” Natsuki.
Within act 2, pursueing Yuri on your first day and going to natsuki the next for your poem will trigger a small occurence.
Within act 2, on day 3 speaking to Monika in windowed will generate a glitched poem, but rather in fullscreen you will get a blue screen of death.
Very rarely, within Act 2 your cursor will change into a corrupted section of Sayori’s eye from her main screen sprite. Catch this quickly, because it will return to normal within a couple of seconds.
Within the second or third day of Act 2 when speaking to Yuri in her normal sprite animation, you’ll catch her left eye having a mind of it’s own.
During any of the poem minigames within Act 2, selecting what would have been Sayori’s words will rarely make a Monika sprite spring up from the bottom of the left hand corner.
Within the poem minigames of Act 2, selecting any of Yuri’s words (which now include Sayori’s) can rarely deform Yuri’s face when she jumps for a split second…catching it is quite a scare.
File Secrets
A game developer, Mithost, with the help of /u/warchamp7 have already created a reddit post with their findings on the several hidden easter eggs within the game files. You can check out their post
"Doki Doki Literature Club" Has More To It Than We Think. from ARG
Project Libitinia
From the easter eggs within the game’s files, there were many discoveries made pertaining to a third eye and possibly..a new game in the works under the name “Project Libitinia”.
The name occurs momentarily, Yuri speaks about the premise of the book while sharing the details of the strange book with an eye on the front you both are sharing within the game, a redacted poem can be edited to reveal some sort of excerpt from the story; or revealing some details of Project Libitinia, as well as several other “third eye” references within the girl’s various poems.
Game Theorists created a video going into depth on Mithost’s and Warchamp7’s findings as well as shedding more light on Project Libitinia. (I don’t personally agree with the last Yuri theory at the end of this video..but the first half goes into a lot of explanation on the mysteries behind this game and Project Libitinia.)
