Ao Guang
After you help Shi Yi rescue Xiong Tianba, when You Jin lays siege to Ao Guang’s base, go to the base via the Eastern Docks and win the battle. Ao Guang can then be recruited at the Eastern Docks.
Budong
After setting out to look for a Shaolin disciple who knows the Nine Yang Art of Shaolin and is willing to help Lady Meng, visit Southern Shaolin, complete the conversations, win the battle in the temple, retrieve the Maple Kāṣāya from the bandits to the south south-west of South Shaolin in the overworld, go back to South Shaolin, and rescue Budong from the Primeval (Primary) Forest. He can then be recruited in the Shaolin Temple in the area near the left of the map.
Chu Hui
Speak with Jiang Wang at the White Horse (Baima) Temple and the marketplace (the answers are 21443) in Luoyang.
(Must be done before you defeat the Corpse Marionettist (Puppet Husk) With Xiao Fu in your party, speak with the child Wu Tong right outside of the Beggars’ Sect base in Hangzhou to receive a stone. Have it appraised at the antiques dealer near the entrance gate to Luoyang, and choose to not sell it. Return the stone to the child’s mother in the rightmost house in Hangzhou. Speak with Shi Gang (you have to go to the forest to speak with Shi Yan if she isn’t in the party), the wandering constable in red, and the stable cleaner in Hangzhou. Speak with Tang Bohu and Jiang Wang near the brothel (the answer is 3). Speak with the constable to learn that the Fragrant Whirlwind of the Night (Fragrance of the Night) has left Hangzhou. Go to Chengdu and meet Jiang Wang in the Hibiscus (Furong) Restaurant, speak with Chu Hui at the marketplace, and speak with Jiang Wang again in the restaurant. Go to Luoyang and interact with the group of women. Speak with Jiang Wang in the Heluo Inn, win the battle, examine the bloodstain near the general store, speak with Shi Gang at the yamen, speak with Jiang Wang at the marketplace, speak with Chu Hui in the inn, recruit her, speak with the person in the general store, win the battle, report to Shi Gang in the yamen again, and speak with Chu Hui in the White Horse (Baima) Temple to recruit her.
Fang Yunhua
After learning from Gu Ye at Wudang Sect that Fang Yunhua went missing in Chengdu (after you finished his events in Hangzhou), investigate the abandoned temple in Chengdu with Shi Yan on your team. Complete the battle, and head to Wudang Sect to recruit Fang Yunhua.
Fatty Yue (Fat Yue)
Rescue him from the trap in the interior section of the Unmarked Tomb (Nameless Grave) after finding him, interacting with the earth deity outside, and winning the battle. He can be found in the exterior area of the map during subsequent visits ready to be recruited.
Feng Chuixue
Becomes recruitable automatically at Jiang’s Mansion in Luoyang later on into the main questline of the game.
Fu Jianhan
After witnessing his drinking duel with Wudian in the Luoyang liquor store, complete the quest chain that starts in Dukang Village to save Auntie Li’s son. After completing the quests, Fu Jianhan can be found next to Auntie Li in Dukang Village and recruited
Gu Shi
After finishing Fang Yunhua’s events in Hangzhou, visit Gu Shi at the Wudang Sect and complete the battle to recruit him.
Ji Wushuang (Yakṣa) (Yaksha)
While visiting the Cult of Heavenly Dragon (Tianlong) during late game, you can ask Ji Wushuang to join your party.
Jiang Yu
Visit him in Jiang’s Mansion in Luoyang to recruit him.
Li Mingmei (The Anthomaniac) (The Floriculturist)
Find Long Mo in Hangzhou’s brothel, win a battle, speak with Diancang Sect’s survivors in Hangzhou, go to Rākṣasa’s base and win the battle, go to Chengdu, and then you can speak to her at Tranquilily (Wangyou) Valley to recruit her,
Lil’ A’man (“Oman”)
After learning from Lan Ting that a treasure of the Poisonous Dragon Cult/Clan has been stolen by a strange purple man, speak with the waiter in the restaurant in Chengdu about rumors to learn of the appearance of a strange man near the Leshan Buddha. Go to the Leshan (Giant) Buddha and win the battle and report back to Lan Ting at the Poisonous Dragon Cult/Clan to unlock Lil’ A’man as a recruitable party member.
Long Mo
Find Long Mo in Hangzhou’s brothel, win a battle, speak with Diancang Sect’s survivors in Hangzhou, go to Rākṣasa’s base and win the battle, go to Chengdu, speak to the Anthomaniac (Floriculturist) at Tranquilily (Wangyou) Valley and recruit her, speak to the Sword Saint in Chengdu and survive the battle. After the cutscenes, Long Mo will be recruitable.
Qin Hongshang
After getting a ship ready for the questline A Marriage in Scarlet (Bloody Romance), before setting out to escort Mu Ping to Kurozuka no Enma (Black Necro), she can be recruited at the Eastern Docks (Ferry).
Ren Jiannan
Have Xiao Fu, who has mastered the Song of Wandering Jianghu with Joy and Pride (Thrive Jiang Hu) (proficiency level 10) in your party. Speak with Ren Jiannan in the Forest and win the battle. He can then be recruited at Swordsmith’s Manor next to Ren Haoran.
Shang Zhongren
Visit the Bagua Sect, find out about Shang Zhongzhi’s purchase orders for medicinal materials in Chengdu’s Hundred-herb (Baicao) Clan, return to the Sect, go to the Eastern Docks (Ferry) and speak with the seafood seller, a child with an upset stomach, and the child’s mother, return to the Bagua Sect and examine the flower, win the battle, and you can recruit Shang Zhongren in the main hall.
Shen Xiangyun
Visit her in Tranquilily (Wangyou) Valley to recruit her.
Shi Yan
Hire her to join your team for 10000 qian in the forest.
Shi Yi
Win a battle to rescue him in Jingyang Ridge. He can then be recruited at the same spot.
Shui Panpan
You can recruit her right after visiting Chengdu, but she will leave the party after the attempt to save Lady Meng in Dragon Well (Longjing) Village. After completing the quests related to the Black Bat Cave, speak with the old boatman in the Eastern Docks (Ferry), visit the Snowy Mountain Inn (Secret Shop in the Snowfield), speak with the boatman near the center of the area at the Eastern Docks (Ferry), visit Prince (Duke) Sai’s Mansion, (include Xiao Fu in your party, as well as either Budong, Gu Shi, Lil’ A’man [“Oman”], or the Anthomaniac [Floriculturist]) complete the training sequence, and defeat Wanyan Ke’er’ke. She can then be recruited outside the restaurant in Chengdu.
Taya
After completing the battle in the Primeval Forest unlocked after trying to locate Long Mo at Rākṣasa’s Branch base, automatically go to Villains’ Valley. Rescue the three Semu folks from the thugs. Speak with the chief at Tribu des Fleurs (Petals Tribe), go to the observatory and speak with Taya and her papa, examine the three pieces of paper around the village, speak with the duo again, and you can recruit her after finishing the cutscenes.
Xiao Fu
Speak to one of the kids in Hangzhou to learn about a rumor possibly related to the Corpse Marionettist (Puppet Husk) trigger a quest to visit Xiao Fu.
Retrieve Xiao Haoshuang’s family letter from one of the rooms in Xiaoyao Valley.
Get Celestial Melody’s musical score by giving salty fish to A’ji the cat in the two disciple-brothers’ cottage in Xiaoyao Valley.
Show Celestial Melody the score. She does not take it back.
Go to Chord-Sword (Stringsword) Manor and complete the sequence successfully.
Give Xiao Fu the score.
Then give him the letter.
Speak with Xiao Fu again to recruit him.
Xiao Yao
Buy a meat bun and give it to the yellow dog in Chengdu. Follow it to discover a corpse. After the cutscenes, you can recruit Xiao Yao at the Hangzhou branch of the Beggars’ Sect.
Yan Yu
Speak with Ren Haoran in Swordsmith’s Manor to take on the task of bringing a sword to Yan Yu. Find Yan Yu in Qingcheng Sect and he can join the party.

Ao Guang
An Eye for an Eye – If critically hit, the next outgoing attack will critically hit.
Budong
Compassionate Mercy – Budong’s attacks cannot defeat enemies, and will leave them with at least 1 health.
Chu Hui
Graceful Wave-treading – Can move after attacking.
Fang Yunhua
Backstabber – Outgoing attacks to the backside of opponents are guaranteed to critically hit.
Profiteer – Increase the selling price of items.
Fatty Yue (Fat Yue)
Caprice of Wealth – Fatty Yue has a chance of consuming money from the party’s funds whenever he attacks to boost his outgoing damage.
Legendary Handsome Rogue – A chance to steal from the enemy when attacking. The lower the target’s health is, the more likely it is for the theft to succeed.
Feng Chuixue
Heaven’s Will Cannot be Defied – When defeated in battle, give the attacker the Depressed debuff for three turns.
Fu Jianhan
Thrive in Adversity – Deal more bonus damage the lower Fu Jianhan’s health is.
Fondness for the Bottle – Fu Jianhan has a chance of consuming an alcoholic drink from the party’s inventory whenever he attacks (gaining the relevant buffs).
Gu Shi
Close Quarters Combat Specialist – Increase outgoing damage for friendly characters’ fist, palm, and kick attacks.
Gu Yuexuan
Fraternal Bonds – Whenever a party member is defeated in battle, gain the Invulnerable buff and the next outgoing attack is guaranteed to critically hit.
(Win the opening battle as the Domain of the Dead [Fengdu]) Camaraderie – When a party member is defeated in battle, an undeployed party member will automatically join the battle to assist.
(Win the opening battle as the Cult of Heavenly Dragon [Cult of Tianlong]) Fighting Back-to-Back – When at least one party member is next to Gu Yuexuan, grants a chance to perform a combination attack during attacks.
Ji Wushuang (Yakṣa) (Yaksha)
Ravishing Beauty – Increase the outgoing damage of all friendly male characters within two hexes during battle.
Spellbound Minds – When defeated in battle, give a random enemy the Charmed debuff.
Jiang Yu
Natural Prodigy – Increase combat experience gain.
Cardboard Box Sneak – Makes it more difficult for patrolling enemies to detect the party.
Jingji (Jing Ji)
To the Last Breath – Can continue to battle (and become invulnerable until his next turn) after being defeated for the first time during each battle.
(Win the opening battle as the Domain of the Dead [Fengdu]) An Eye for an Eye – If critically hit, the next outgoing attack will critically hit.
(Win the opening battle as the Cult of Heavenly Dragon [Cult of Tianlong]) Supreme in Solitude – If he is the only unit on your side left standing, every outgoing attack will be a critical hit.
Li Mingmei (The Anthomaniac) (The Floriculturist)
Aromatic Dispersal – Decrease friendly characters’ energy consumption while increasing hostile characters’ energy consumption.
Lil’ A’man (“Oman”)
Debilitating Airborne Formula – When defeated in battle, unleash a smokescreen to damage the energy of enemies within four hexes.
Toxin Locator – Highlight gatherable poisonous creature resources in the environment.
Long Mo
Courageous Combatant – After defeating an enemy, gain the Energy Restoration and Enraged buffs.
Qin Hongshang
Critical Retribution – Outgoing counter attacks are guaranteed to critically hit.
Thunderbolt Flame – Unleash Thunderfire Grenades when defeated.
Ren Jiannan
Mineral Forge – Highlight gatherable ore resources in the environment.
Weapon Specialist – Increase the outgoing attack of all friendly weapon-wielding characters during battle.
Shang Zhongren
Kick Them When They’re Down – After defeating an enemy in battle, the next outgoing attack is guaranteed to critically hit.
Shen Xiangyun
Miraculous Healing – Increase the effectiveness of medicine items used during battle. Decrease the cooldown time for item usage for teammates while increasing the cooldown time for item usage for enemies.
Drive A Hard Bargain – Decrease the buying price of items.
Divine Forager – Highlight gatherable herb resources in the environment.
Shi Yan
Petty Thievery – A chance to steal from the enemy when attacking. The lower the target’s health is, the more likely it is for the theft to succeed.
Preemptive Escape – Leave the battlefield and party when health is at 15% or less.
Observant Eye – Highlight gatherable resources in the environment.
Shi Yi
Rash Bravery – Deal more bonus damage the more enemies are present within two hexes.
Shui Panpan
A Needle in Wool – Whenever a party member is defeated in battle, gain the Needle in Wool buff, regaining health, reducing incoming damage, and guaranteeing counter attack when attacked.
Taya
Meticulous Calculations – Friendly characters recover more health and energy through resting.
Wei Ziling
Concealment – Go into stealth mode after resting. Outgoing attacks from stealth are guaranteed to critically hit.
Parting Acupoint Sealing – When defeated, cause enemies within two hexes to become unable to take actions in the next turn.
Xiao Fu
Talented and Attractive – Increase the outgoing damage of all friendly female characters within two hexes during battle.
Xiao Yao
Gourmet – Xiao Yao has a chance of consuming a food item from the party’s inventory whenever he attacks (gaining the relevant buffs).
Yan Yu
Sovereign Presence – Deal more bonus damage the more teammates are present within two hexes.
Experienced and Knowledgeable – Increase attribute (perspective) experience gain.
