Overview
With this guide I’m going to teach you the recipes for the Tinctures, all the Herbs and Root locations the brew time for both Painkillers and Antibiotics as well there effects
What is this?
This is guide with all the herbs in game and the recipes for all the Tinctures that you can brew in game.
Tinctures are used for boosting the player Immunity, to reveal the symptoms of the disease so you can administer the right antibiotic and to boost the key NPCs resistance to the infection to save as many as possible.
So you will need as many as possible.
Water Bottle
The Water Bottle, besides quenching your thirst it’s the base ingredient that you need to brew all the Tinctures, to get a Water Bottle you need a Empty Bottle, fill it with water in one of the fountains or water barrels in game to become a Water Bottle (Well obviously)
PS: Muddy Watter can’t be used to brew Tinctures, it will decrease your thirst but it will increase infection
Herbs
Collecting herbs plays a vital part in the mechanics of the game.
You can sell them for some profit at the pub “The Broken Heart“.
But storing them to brew Tinctures is advisable, especially the rare herbs.
Roots and Herbs locations
At some point early in the game on Day 2 after you rested in Lara’s house, you will hear a rumbling sound after exiting the house, turning left you will find a naked woman who will introduce you to earth’s root.
Standing still it will emerge from underground and pouring blood, from a blood-filled flask, on top of it it will gift you with herbs, sometimes rare herbs.
- Ashen Swish grows in post-infected districts and at the cemetery;
- Swevery grows on the Steppe and in the farms at Shekhen, easiest to find;
- White Whip grows in infected districts.

Blood-filled flask, can be obtained when performing autopsies on corpses and pouring out the blood into an Empty Bottle after performing the first cut.
Tinctures
Tinctures can be created by combining two herbs and one Water Bottle, and are used to boost the player’s immunity or to discover disease symptoms when healing the infected.

Otherwise, thanks! very helpful
For pointing out some missing ingredients for “Zürkh+”:
Originally posted by NoTimeToWait:Well-composed guide! But I think Zurkh+ can be made with and kind of Twyre plant combined with Swish. Also, there is one more root location: just a bit to the north from warehouses, on the left hand side

Brewing Painkillers and Antibiotics
There are several kinds of potions to make besides Tinctures, which are unnamed the first time you make them. You’ll need to try them out to see how they work.
You will only be able to start brewings these potions on Day 4,You’ll have a quest to fix the ‘big alembic’, in the Factory, which will allow you to brew more complex potions, talk to Sticky inside the Factory.
This machine can be upgraded, 3 times, it will allow you to brew more potions at once, with max upgrades you can brew 5 at the same time.
Items needed to upgrade the brewing machine after fixing it, every upgrade requires the same items.
Painkillers
Painkillers are a substitute for Morphine , unlike Morphine, Painkillers, the ones that you can brew with Healthy Organs in game, lower your exhaustion bar and they restore more health when you sleep.
I tested with all the diferent kind of Tinctures that you can craft with, “Yas”, “Medrel” and “Zürkh”, and when it comes to Painkillers, besides the fact that you can’t stack Painkillers made out off diferent Tinctures there is no diference that I noticed when it came to effects, only the organs used change how much effect they have.
They can also be traded for goods with people in infected areas of the town.

Antibiotics
Antibiotics unlike the Painkillers, are brewed using Infected Organs or Infected Blood these can replace the Antibiotic pills that you can either buy, trade or rewarded for completing certain tasks as a doctor.
With Antibiotics the Tinctures do matter, difference Tinctures apply to different areas to which the infected person needs the right medicine.
They can also be traded for goods with people in infected areas of the town.
