Pet Cemetery (Dungeon Mod) Official Guide

Overview

If you want to organically experience Pet Cemetery (Dungeon Mod) do NOT read this Guide. Like the base game, you will slowly and painfully learn on your own while adventuring. Plus, you get to enjoy exploring on your own. So, it’s recommended to play the Mod first and come back and visit the Guide later to learn more or get more help. However, in this guide, you will learn more about various trinkets, monsters, curios, and maps from the Pet Cemetery. This is the official guide created by the team who worked on the mod. A few things will remain secret though, so you’ll have to discover them on your own!Recent Updates Details on Forbidden Baubles, Sacred Armaments, and Tips and details about the Bosses added to GuideTo support continued development, please LIKE + FAVORITE this GUIDE and SHARE + STREAM Pet Cemetery game play.

Something Wicked Stirs …

Just outside the hamlet, unholy creatures stir in the local Pet Cemetery. This burial ground is home to more than just the remains of the villagers’ beloved animal companions; shadowy creatures, haunted skeletons, and fierce animals claim dominion. But powerful treasures may be discovered at archaeozoological expedition dig sites: search for Pet Keepsakes (rumored to possess wild, unpredictable power), find rare and curious remains from a Bone Collection, or experiment with foul Forbidden Baubles. Gather your party and prepare to explore this twisted, gated place.

Locked Gates + Figurines and One-Way Gates

The graveyard tries to keep its secrets!

Locked Gates + Figurines

Quest maps may contain locked gates. The base of animal Figurines may fit into gate sockets like a key to open new paths. Use a Key Figurines on a matching gate to open it. You may find keys with no doors, or encounter locks with no keys! These Figurines can’t be dropped so you may have to make hard inventory choices.

One-Way Gates

Note some gates are “one-way” meaning you may not be able to return. On PLOT QUEST maps, if you can’t “click on” a nearby room (and it’s not pulsing) it means you MUST select a different route. It is usually NOT possible to get to every room (or open all locked doors) on unique Pet Cemetery PLOT QUESTS. Live with your luck. On the maps below, one way gates have a purple arrow.

Figurines and One-Way Gates only appear on Quest/Plot maps, they do not appear in random dungeons.

Compatibility + Load Order + Tips

As this is a new mod, recommend a NEW save.

Pet Cemetery was developed with all DLC (COM + CC) plus Pets + Pet Store, and select classes only turned on. COM + CC are REQUIRED at this time..

Integrates w/Compact Quest Screen (CQS)

Hunting Slime’s optional mod connects new dungeon areas and roaming monster icons! So far all test with Sunward Isles and Pet Cemetery and CQS have been working perfectly. Download Mod

Compatibility with other game changing mods and dungeons will be tested, and with any tweaks as needed.

Load Order

If you would also like to play with optional Pets and Pet Store , follow load order pictured below. A future update may add new content to Pets that appears in Pet Cemetery (unconfirmed).

Dungeon Music

Modders have limited control of the dungeon music. Whichever mod is on “top” on the load order will play for all mod dungeons. So if you want to switch between Pet Cemetery and Sunward Isles, just change which mod is on “top” before that next mission. However, note it appears Pet Cemetery on “top” fixes some issues for some people if also using SI, so we recommend keeping PC on top for now!

Mod Loading Order Tips

In General …
ON TOP OF LOAD ORDER
Game changing mods above Pet Cemetery (CQS, extra firewood, faster walking, lower Crimson Curse chance, etc.)
IN MIDDLE
Dungeons (like Pet Cemetery)
Monster Mods
BOTTOM
Class Mods

Reported Issues

1 User reported adding to game launch option “-disable_monster_pre_loading” in Steam properties allowed the dungeon to load (was crashing for user before adding this)
1 Report of conflict with Web of Malice Mod -status unconfirmed
1 Report of conflict with Nightmare Mod (mod reports may conflict) -status unconfirmed
1 Report of conflict with Fallen Heroes, (removing FH fixed for that player) -status unconfirmed
1 Report of conflict with Dimensional Havoc -status unconfirmed

White Boxes

There has never been an easy answer why some people get white boxes and some don’t. Everything in Pet Cemetery was compressed to lower file sizes, but it is a large mod due to all the content. If you experience the “white box” issue the “address aware tool” has helped people expand their mod limits. Must have 8 RAM minimum. Sorry, we can’t help tech support this and have not used it personally but may help!

Cemetery Explorers …

These adventuring parties were some of the first explorers to enter the Pet Cemetery. A few survived. They passed along some optional Tips … (see Tips section)

Journals & Notes

There is a flower that grows in this region that is currently on a waitlist to be classified by the experts at Monico University. Its popular name is “Nightmare Flower” not because it causes nightmares, but the opposite — it drives them away. It’s a purplish closed flower with an odd number of petals. It grows from the first stages of the tree’s development, until its final days. Its nectar is very thick and has a penetrating perfume. People collect its nectar to prepare a mixture called “Tears of Hypnos”. –A.C.

About the perfume of the “Nightmare Flower”. The sweet scent of this flower is very interesting. Botanically speaking, it seems to belong to the citroideae subfamily, although it doesn’t produce fruits. The other aspect of the scent is sweeter, similar to the jasmine flowers but less pronounced. It also seems to be structurally related to this last flower, but the tree doesn’t grow vines, the flowers just grow from the branches. –A.C.

The old cemetery: I haven’t been able to date the old cemetery yet, but I know it was already old during the period of the eighth lord of the state, who talks in his letters about the process of restoration of the enclosure. It seems that, originally, it was built for the families of the servants that worked in the house, but with the increasing population of the state, the eighth lord decided to allow the villagers to bury their people in the outskirts of the cemetery, which earth was also consecrated. –A.C.

It wasn’t too long until the fences of the graveyard had to be pushed out to receive more corpses. And with more people permanently moving to the state from foreign kingdoms, eventually there was no more room in the consecrated land. The tenth and eleventh lords of the state increased the size of the cemetery by digging out crypts that allowed the villagers to properly dispose of their dead relatives by burying them in sacred land, since, with recent conflicts, the priests of the Light weren’t in the favor of the lords. –A.C.

With the regional population reduced by plague, the survivors migrated to the center of a new village. In a few decades, the population was concentrated around a town square and a new cemetery was founded. With considerably less people to help with labor, farmers turned to dogs to help with herding, pigs to search for rare delicacies (truffles), and horses to pull plows. Within 12 years the domesticated animal population doubled. –A.C.

The Pet Cemetery. At the time of the fifteenth Lord of the State, the old cemetery was turned into a place where the residents of the Hamlet buried their animals. The old paths were excavated, and there were improvised burials everywhere. Crosses, plates and altars were constructed alongside the fence, all around the enclosure, and new motifs were carved in the old monuments. The entirety of the cemetery turned into a funerary homage to the deceased animals. –A.C.

The calmed and solicitous atmosphere of the abandoned cemetery soon caught the eye of the wildlife of the region. Now that the men had retired, nature took over the place. One could see all sorts of creatures reconquering their once territory, but there was something different: These animals seemed more docile. Foxes and otters followed villagers to the hamlet, birds approached curiously the tired traveler to see if they shared some crumbs. This place offers a unique opportunity to study these creatures, like never before … –A.C.

This graveyard is much older than I expected. I’m not sure the residents of the Hamlet are aware of how much history is here. I’ve continued to work to catalog some of the strange bones I’ve found here . They seem to seem to possess some unexplainable power still — is it this graveyard? Are they connected somehow? I haven’t been able to identify all the species yet, it’s odd. Were there animals that evolved in this area only? More later. –A.C.

… I’ve continued to work to catalogue some of the strange bones I’ve found here. They feel warm to the touch and seems to have special and unique properties and unexplainable power still — is it this graveyard? –A.C.

Items

Supply + Estate

A few new items to fill your packs.

Nightmare Flower Bouquet
Charred Flower Bouquet
Dead Flower Bouquet
Dark Delicious Apple
Crowbar

New Gem

Dark Diamonds: Stack Limit 9. Value 1500 gold each. The Cemetery is a challenge, but can offer a high return on investment, with a little luck. Dark Diamonds can be found to finance your adventures into other regions.

Soul Bondings + Soul Stones

There is a slim chance to find a Soul Stone.

Users assume ALL RISKS when experimenting with souls! Soul manipulation should only be undertaken by qualified Bishops, Witches, Holy Women, or Medicine Men, who possess an advanced understanding of metaphysical and spiritual concepts like Ātman

If NOT used in a dungeon, the Stone will return to the Hamlet and can be selected for the next dungeon like a provision, to then use on the hero of your choosing. When used, it will start a Soul Bonding. You may gain enhancements from this process. To change a Bonding that has just started, remove it quickly in the Medical Ward. You CAN’T REPLACE a bonding in progress by using another Stone! Remove a bonding FIRST, then apply a new one.

A Hero with a Soul Bonding cannot become a Disciple of the Forbidden.

Sacred Armaments

These relics from a forgotten royal family help against Nightmares and Vampires!
Equipping any 2 of the 7 will activate the Anointed Light matched set bonus with extra critical against Nightmares and Vampires and lower stress received if Afflicted.

Note: Currently “Jinx will heal” on the crowns mostly works. a few times another hero in the party may gain the healing.
Added in Mod update 1.3.4

Forbidden Baubles

Dark magic offers great power, but at a cost to health. One rumor insists that by equipping Forbidden Baubles, and with a bit of unluck, the wearer may become a Disciple of the Forbidden. Unfortunately, rumors aren’t very specific But legends state there are multiple levels of devotion that can be unlocked. Note: A Disciple of the Forbidden will NOT accept a Soul Bonding (you will waste a stone if you try it!)

Forbidden Baubles may grant a Forbidden Devotion level if equipped. Devotion is an evolving quirk with four stages = Forbidden Deacon, Forbidden Priest, Forbidden Bishop, and Forbidden Cardinal. Overall, Devotion levels lower the users HP, but in exchange adds progressive bonuses with each higher devotion level.

Examples of some things it does: increase CRIT, increase DMG, add protection if stunned, add dodge if blighted, and can turn Holy Water into a Dark Grenade (that also evolves). In addition the higher your devotion level additional bonuses become active as your current HP level is low, so it makes the hero stronger when he is closer to death. Unlike the 6 unique Soul Bondings, there is only one Forbidden Devotional path. So any of the 5 Baubles can start the process by making any kills with the trinket equipped (does not have to the monster listed on the trinket). After acquiring the first level the others will evolve at random intervals and can’t be replaced by other random quirks.(At least they shouldn’t be!). With power comes the risk! Lower HP can be a challenge but it more easily triggers the low health bonuses as well.

Note: if another mod affects any of the monsters listed in the Baubles it may affect or remove the ON CRIT kill of those monsters.

Besides as a rare quest reward, very rarely a Bauble can be found in the remains of a Zombie!

Treasured Keepsake Trinket Collection

These trinkets summon soul memories of animals that were laid to rest inside the Pet Cemetery. They represent love and loss. On certain conditions they trigger “Untamed Power,” a form of wild magic. Untamed Powers have a chance to target a wide radius, usually the enemies. According to a Report, over 80% of the time, Untamed Power is a blessing, while less than 15% of the time, adds some “complications”. By its nature, Untamed Power is unfocused, unpredictable and random! Stealing keepsakes from graveyards involves a level of risk; use at your own peril!

Keepsakes have further sub-classifications that give a general idea of how they function.
15 Burst Trinkets: Trigger On Criticals: Affect an entire group
5 Surge Trinkets: Can Trigger On Riposte Hit: Affects a target
5 Cycle Trinkets: Can Trigger on Melee or Ranged: Has Intermittent effects

Echo Quirks

By wearing Keepsakes, a hero may become attuned enough to gain an Echo of Power. See Quirks for other info.

Bone Collection Trinkets

Strange bones (and more) were being catalogued by the University before the expedition vanished. These bones feel warm to the touch. Unlike most trinkets, these bones appear to offer a perk only in one REGION or DUNGEON. A working theory postulates the power is conected to where the creature perished, but how the remains ended up in the Pet Cemetery is not clear.

So far the bones have been shown to have effects in 10 regions, including: the Pet Cemetery, Weald, Warrens, Cove, Ruins, Hamlet, Crimson Court, Farmstead, Sunward Isle, and near the entrance to Vermintide Dungeon, however Collection IDs 19u + 20f have limited value until the entrance can be successfully opened.

JAN 2021 included updates to the COM and CC sets due to light level always at 100% in the dungeons.

Curios

Your key to understanding what’s what inside Pet Cemetery

NOT PICTURED: The Single Sconce very rare curio: Place a Nightmare Flower into the Sconce to manually summon Tindalo. {Note: there’s a few minor changes from when below graphics were created; one day I hope to update; the video is most up-to-date currently}

Trophies

Only the strongest will ever glimpse these fabled items.

Monster Factions

Pet Cemetery is built with compatibility with Level 2+4 Dungeons for maximum flexibility (patch coming soon). So, in Pet Cemetery monsters have 5 levels. However, playing with Level 2+4 Dungeons is OPTIONAL. Below is how Pet Cemetery monster levels match up to base game monster levels. This is also used with select summoning where only a lower level monster could be summoned in certain cases.

Base Game = Pet Cemetery Monster Levels
A = A
n/a = B
B = C
n/a = D
C = E

Beast Faction
Undead/Unholy Faction

Rumors have it “Thirsty Bois” are the remains of people who died at sea from dehydration after being forced to try to survive on salt water. Dry, chapped bodies would wash up from ship wrecks but to maintain the family’s noble status, the bodies were not allowed to be buried in the Ancestor’s family plot and instead were buried in unmarked graves in the old Cemetery. Who or what power re-animates these sun-bleached corpses is unknown. They are constantly thirsty, and can quickly drain water from living creatures in a never-ending quest to quench their thirst. –A.C.

Nightmare Faction

Nightmares do NOT leave corpses.

Zombie Faction

The Zombie faction can convert Blight into health. Blight can still be useful in Pet Cemetery, but not against this faction.

Spider and Plant Factions

Bosses

Battle Tips and Strategies

The Wicked Mare
This is psychological battle in the mind that can be a real nail-biter! A stress based battle. You will very likely encounter multiple virute/afflication checks. Stress healers can help stay alive. Laudanum can only cure 50% of his stress but can be useful still. Virtue trinkets can help. He can also enter stealth, so save those Dark Delicious Apples or have one team member or trinket that can bypass Stealth. The Mare can’t be marked. Watch a video with stress-healing focused party fight him. This team is below the recommended level for this battle.

The Hat Man
Can Stun a party member for 2 rounds. He can also break and bypass guard. So your party member should function well from any position and can be flexible. Taking out his orbs first will stop them from guarding him and is one option for the fight. Both the Hat Man and the Orbs ignore riposte since they are in your mind and can anticipate that reaction! https://www.youtube.com/bSs9QglcE5Q

The Gorgon
A bleed based battle. Bring all bandages or risk bleeding to death. She also will riposte. She will hide and move around stone pillars that can’t easily be destroyed so you can safely ignore them.

Tindalo
This beast is a powerhouse. Go for him with all your might. Usually your first encounter with him is only a test battle where he will get the scents of the party and may appear later. Use any protection items or the crowbar if you have one in your inventory at this time!

You may also rarely find an altar to summon his main battle. To summon you need to place a Nightmare Flower in the altar (like Shambler battle). Watch a video of of a healing-based party challenge this three-headed beast

Quirks

Lucid Dreamer
Dreamcatcher
Nightmare Eater
Stress Absorber
Pet Cemetery Explorer
Zombie Slayer
Blessing of an Endless Life

Recurring Nightmares
Nightmare Disorder
Sleepwalker
Stress Conduit
Day Dreamer
Coimetrophobia
Fear of Zombies
Curse of a Quick Death

Echo Quirks

Echo Quirks may be obtained by wearing Keepsakes Trinkets. They typically grant an advantage for the 1st round only. There are 20 different Echo Quirks. Echo quirks have chance to trigger when a hero makes a kill while the trinket is equipped.

Tindalo Quarry

If you are “Scent Locked” by Tindalo, you can manually remove this quirk in the Medical Ward. The quirk can also be removed by defeating Tindalo and using a Three-Headed Medal (before leaving the dungeon!).

New District

After being built, the Greenhouse can provide a limited number of Nightmare Bouquets weekly to help manage stress. Also pictured is the Racetrack District from the Rescuer (Class Mod) that also has effects inside Pet Cemetery.

Quest Maps

Figurines and One-Way Gates only appear on Quest/Plot maps, they do not appear in random dungeons. In many of the plot quests, the first key you receive will determine which main path you will take for this map; it is not usually possible to get to all the areas. Chance will play a factor in your exploration. Different paths may offer different rewards.

Note: Maps included below are merely a guide. Even with the random nature of key, it can be helpful to show paths to make partially informed choices.Although some things are subject to change!

Note: The first Pet Cemetery Quest “Pet Cemetery is Open” map (Map Zero) is NOT shown below.

Tips (out of game)

OUTFITTER TIPS:
You won’t regret it! Always buy ALL shovels, ALL food, and ALL Laudanum
If money is no issue, and you don’t like darkness: ALL bandages. ALL torches.
Holy Water and Medicinal can be useful in certain cases.
Keys & Antivenom are not “required” in Pet Cemetery but you never know
And packs can only carry so much gear …

LONGER BATTLES:
Consider the impact of longer battles. Defensive skills can be a key survival factor. Examples of skills that can be useful depending on party configuration:
Man at Arms Bolster or Bellow
Grave Robber’s Toxic Trickery
Hellion’s Adrenaline Rush
Arbalest’s Suppressing Fire
Vestal’s Hand of Light and Illumination skills are very useful in Pet Cemetery.
Highwayman’s Tracking Shot that De-stealths also can also be strategically used.
Crusader’s Bulwark of Faith
Shieldbreaker’s Serpent Sway
Some monsters groups your group may be great at while others encounters may be a challenge, so sometimes adapt strategies and skills mid dungeon. Use of secondary and minor healing skills, and item usage can also be life-saving!

LONGER QUESTS:
You may run out supplies near the end of a longer dungeon and may be fighting in the dark. Keep calm and carry on. Use everything. Even when a map looks extra long, you may not have to go to all the rooms, but generally, random maps will force you the extreme. You may only wish to adventure in the Pet Cemetery now and then.

ECONOMY:
You likely wont find as much general loot, however Dark Diamonds can be more profitable (on the average) and also take up less inventory space to promote item usage. It’s up to you to risk trying to find them.

SKILL TIPS:
Consider each selected skill and party synergy carefully
Grave Robbers can shine in Pet Cemetery
Teams that work together to Mark also perform very well here!

AID:
Map items can reward you with select supplies. New Quirks and Trinkets and other secrets will also aid you after earning them. Even the most challenging map may reveal help in unlikely places.

RANDOM EVENTS:
Expect the unexpected.

LESS GENERAL TREASURE:
But chance at much higher than usual gold overall if you find Dark Diamonds. It’s your choice to open Pedestals or not, if you are near death skip opening them to finish the quest.
