Overview
We all know that the Yakuza series is a serious crime drama, thus nothing more natural than managing a cabaret club and playing princess maker with a bunch of hostesses. Even more naturally, I spent a lot of time tinkering and making notes on how to use the makeover function to dress up the platinum hostesses in manners that maximized their status. Here you have the fruits of my labour and there are also links to a spreadsheet on Google Drive so you can filter it and find stuff more easily. Oh, I also added details on how to unlock Gandhara’s videos and the locations of the telephone cards, how to farm cash, level up the legend styles, as well as the correct answers in the special training for each platinum hostess and other details like how to recruit each hostess, tips and other things.

Introduction and tips for the Cabaret Czar minigame
To those starting it, the game is rather simple and it’s basically just a matter of matching the correct hostesses with the correct customers. I won’t get into specifics, as I think it’s very simple and easy, but you get to select 8 girls for each shift, then select an area you want to target. The minigame consists of matching each girl to the customer’s preferences, answering the girls when they ask you for help or the tab and then send the customer off.
The more you open for bussiness the more fans you get. Then, once you gather enough fans, you get more customers when you open for bussiness and unlock new items according to a rank system. Each time you achieve a certain number of total fans, you rank up and get new accessories. That is pretty self explanatory, the more you play the better your girls get, the more customers come in when you open up and the more money you make.
Also, each girl has several statuses and can level up by tending to customers, platinum hostesses go up to level 40 and usually max out nearly all statuses when they do. The other girls, bronze, silver and gold, go up to level 30. You will see images below of all girls maxed out, so you can compare them. Basically, the more they serve customers the better they get but their own ranking, from bronze to platinum, determines what are their initial statuses and limits.
There are also the atributes, sexy, beauty, cute and funny. Those can only be improved by the platinum hostesses via the makeover mechanic, where you dress them differently to do it. All other girls will have static atributes, the lowest being a blue X, afterward there is a green triangle, a circle and the maximum level are the pink double circles.
Customers have preferences, verbi gratia, some will ask for a girl that is funny and is good at Party. If they are poorer, they will compromise with lower statuses and attribute girls, but the richest customers won’t be satisfied. Thankfuly, the game hints at what type of girl you should use when you target each area and then you get to choose what girl to send to a customer, where the expression and colour tells you what they think of each girl.
The game uses the same coloured smiley and angry faces as the girls condition indicator and the customer’s mood. Try getting every customer to a very happy mood (wide violet/pink smile) by matching them with girls they like and answering the girls’ calls. The customers go from angry to very happy, and each time you succesfuly answer a girl’s call quickly the customer’s mood improves while the girl recovers HP.
If the customer’s mood is higher, because you put the right girl for them and/or answered the requests quickly, the customer will spend more cash and do it faster. That also fills your fever meter on the bottom right faster. Activating this fever meter will automatically send one or two customers into fever mode, except those already in fever mode or ready to leave the club. That makes them go from any mood right into a ecstatic level of happiness where they spend more cash and the girls don’t get tired so quickly, a level of happiness exclusive to fever mode and when a customer agrees to get an extension.
Below you have two images:
On the left, my cast on duty and every girl has a violet coloured smile face showing her condition to be maxed.
On the right, an image of the cabaret club map with the fans count and each club area.
The main tips I have are:
- Never put girls on duty if their condition isn’t maxed out.
- You must grind if you want to maximize your chances of beating the rival clubs and unlock accessories for the makeovers I listed below. I suggest only challenging rival clubs when you have at least double their fans in their own area;
- When grinding, gift the customers as they leave for more fans. (Or reward girls if you want to level them);
- During rival battles, compliment the girls to keep their conditions maxed out, avoid using cash.
- Don’t rely on the bussiness minigames to make cash, even on Legendary. Get a lot Staminan Royale’s and a knife, then use CP to make the Mr. Shakedown enemies richer through the deep pockets upgrade and spam heat actions against them in combat.
(Beforehand, you might wanna buy the drink that hurts you and then visit each restaurant to consume everything they offer. Each time you “complete a restaurant”, you get 1 CP and it’s one of the easiest way to get CP quickly. Another easy way to get CP is to get into fights around town and defeat enemies using the different combat styles and weaponry.)
You will get the hang of it from playing. Just try to mix your roster up a bit, try to pick girls that cover what others lack too.
Below you have a more complete guide if you want to remember what each hand signal means and/or need a more in depth analysis of the minigame’s mechanics:

Hostesses and how to unlock them
There are 30 hostesses and, not counting the starting girls, 4 (or 5) ways to recruit them:
- Defeat rival clubs to unlock Platinum Hostesses, the focus of this guide and the ones you get the most interaction with.
Fun fact: Apart from Yuki, they are all Japanese Adult Videos Actress. Id est, they are Japanese porn stars that were at the top of the industry during the game’s development. - Complete substories around Sotenbori as Majima and then recruit the girls outside the club in the alley between the club and the CP shrine;
- Exchange Completion Points at the shrine for girls, you need about 37 Completion Points to get all girls and alternative decors for the club. You get CPs by completing tasks on your Completion List, which you can check on the pause menu and have been previously mentioned;
- Recruit them around Sotenbori, there is map below that I got from IGN, where they will ask for a gift you can buy at the Le March store near the Pawn Shop.
(Alternatively, three of these recruitable girls, Harumi, Kirara and Ume, can be recruited by collecting information from people around Sotenbori as Majima before going to Club Odyssey in Chapter 3, just talk to people around town and you will even get an achievement from it when you return to the Grand.
The first is a man on the Bishamon Bridge near the Grand, the second is a girl in the Bunzaemon Outdoor Mall near the Le March Store and the eastern bridge, the final are two salary men talking in the east end of Shofukucho South near the cab and phone booth.)

Hostess Recruitment Map and CP Exchange
Harumi, Kirara and Ume
If you collect all 3 bits of information before going to Club Odyssey during the main story, you will get these 3 girls after the cabaret club tutorial. If you didn’t collect any information, you won’t get any of the girls and if you collect 1 or 2 bits of information you will get 1 or 2 girls (which ones depend on which information you collect).
If you didn’t get all the information (and thus all the girls) you will have to find them on the streets and scout them.

Platinum Hostesses Special Training
So, I made another I spreadsheet. This one is about the special training you can do with each Platinum Hostess. Each girl has 7 dates/training sessions, after each one they get a bit of XP based on the result of the date. After the last date you unlock each platinum hostess’ substory and Gandhara video.
Five of these special trainings are basically the old dating system from previous games, where the player gets to play the protagonist talking with the hostesses and picking one of three choices to make them like you. In this game, the better your answers, the more XP the girl will get after you finish it. The other two are minigames like karaoke, disco dancing, pool or darts.
Honestly, they are somewhat useful but not that much, after the first one I always gave up the pool dates because even a perfect date usually gave each one or two levels, less than just putting on a podcast and opening the club a couple of times, and winning against them in pool is really hard since they rarely make an error so you must get all moves done perfectly.
Unfortunately, the formatting on Steam is rather simple and handmade, so I didn’t feel like doing it for every girl one by one in here. Instead I put Yuki’s below as a model and a link to the actual spreadsheet right here:

Farming cash, getting rich quick in Yakuza 0
So, this is rather straightforward. You must know who the Mr. Shakedowns are by now, they are the big special enemies that you face while walking around town and they steal all your money if they defeat you. Here is the catch though, when they defeat you they tend to multiply your money, because you can find them around the map and they will be holding MORE cash than they stole from you by a significant margin. This can allow you to defeat them once, let them defeat you and then seek revenge to get more cash back, rinse and repeat until you reach the maximum ammount of money you can hold, which is 9 TRILLION yen, more specifically 9.999.999.999.999.
Also of note, there are FOUR Mr Shakedowns in the game, two in Kamurocho and two in Sotenbori. Yet the two in Tokyo will only ever attack Kiryu and they are the ones that hold more cash. Thus, you should always farm cash with Kiryu and transfer it through Mr Moneybags to Majima.
So, here are the steps to farm them:
[OPTIONAL, but it will make your life so much easier, once you complete the Miracle Johnson
substory at Kamurocho’s Maharaja, you will gain the Encounter Finder. This is an item that you can equip beside your armour, it lets you see enemies on your minimap and find Mr Shakedown easier. The Mr Shakedown will appear as this unique purple arrow, just remember that entering buildings and/or fights with random street enemies will change their location.]
- Go to the CP shrine and unlock the “Deep Pockets” upgrades, those allow them to hold more cash.
- As Kiryu, buy a knife from a weapons merchant, you can unlock different types of knifes and items but their nominal damage, the number you see when you equip the item, are not important in heat actions and those are what you should be using.
- Fill your consumable inventory with Staminan Royale or Incredible Habu Drink, you can buy those at the medicine store, you might also wanna buy some three or four bottles of Scotch in the convenience store down south of Kamurocho, near Mr Libido and a taxi.
- Get Kiryu’s Brawler that make your heat actions stronger, specially when you are drunk.
- Get Kiryu drunk by going to a bar and ordering until they kick you out or drinking around three bottles of scotch you bought beforehand.
- Get your heat bar maxed out by drinking the Staminan Royale or whatever consumables you bought.
- Now you just need to find the Mr Shakedown and enter a fight.
- Press the button to draw the knife and immediately spam the heat action, it should cost the Mr Shakedown around a bar of health.
- Chug your items to max heat again and keep spaming heat attacks
- Once you have defeated the Mr Shakedown, go into a building or a random fight and he will respawn, go there and let him defeat you
- Repeat from step 5 down to your heart’s content.
This is how the Encounter Finder lets you find Mr Shakedown
This is the weapons shop, the weapons are unlocked by Majima in Sotenbori but you can just use any simple knife
These are the are the Brawler upgrades that you will need
These are the CP upgrades you will need and where to get it
These are the medicine and the convenience store (konbini) where you can buy Staminan Royale and Scotch

Leveling up the Legend styles, Dragon of Dojima and Mad Dog of Shimano, and becoming a god
So, once you complete the bussiness related substories with each character, you unlock the Legend style. In Kiryu’s case it’s the Dragon of Dojima and in Majima’s it’s the Mad Dog of Shimano. These are the original fighting styles of both characters from previous games and, instead of unlocking new moves, the upgrades to these styles affect the power of other styles of each character.
As you can see below, there are nodes that increase the damage you incur on every hit, there are nodes that increase your health and there are nodes that increase your heat action bar/damage. So, differently from other styles, you don’t unlock moves, you actually level up each character’s overall stats. More importantly, once you buy every node, you gain a level in this style and can buy all nodes again up to level 999.
How to level up the Legend Style and transcend into godhood from which no mere mortal can face and defeat you (unless it’s a cutscene, specially if they have a gun in the cutscene)
At around level 100, you will be one shotting most enemies even in the Legend difficulty while having so much health that you health bar won’t move even as you stand there letting enemies hit you from all sides. At level 999, one punch from Beast mode can end every boss fight. So this is basically turning each character into a god, although Kiryu’s styles will always be somehow stronger than Majima in my experience.
Thus, you might also wanna level up Kiryu only to level 100 or so and then focus on Majima, it will be faster because over level 100, even in Legend difficulty, it can talk a while for you to let the Mr Shakedown defeat Kiryu, simply due to the ammount of health you get. Since it’s also faster to farm cash with Kiryu, around level 100 should be in the threshold of giving you just enough damage and health to make the farming faster and most enemies pushovers, even bosses.
Still, if you are like me and have completed pretty much every part of the game, you might want to reach that max level with both characters, and why the hell not? But it takes around 3 minutes and 50 seconds to buy all nodes required for a single level. That means around 229.770 seconds, or around 63 and a half HOURS, to level a single character from level 1 to level 999. It takes around 126 straight hours to level both characters, at that point you are putting wear and tear in your controller/keyboard and your arms.
Therefore, someone created an auto hot key script to do it automatically. If you don’t know what that means, AutoHotKey is a software that allows you to program a set of commands for your machine to reproduce. In this case, it will press the buttons necessary to buy every node and level up your character automatically.
Here is the link for the script on GitHub, where you will also find similar instructions to mine:

What you need to do is simple, download both of these and enter the game. You must have the Legend style nodes be all clear, id est, not have bought any for this level. If you have filled any, buy all the rest and start at the next level. Place your in game cursor over the first node on the top and alt tab to the place where you saved the script. Right click on it and then choose “Run Script”, alt tab back to the game and it will level up the set ammount of times you wanted.
Attention though, you CANNOT use you computer while the script is running. I sent a message to the original creator and he added a simple line, so you can press Esc/Escape on your keyboard and it should stop the script, but you need to leave your computer on and the game open while the script does its thing. Also, you can mess around with the number of times it levels, the standard script levels up 5 times, around 18 minutes and a half.
If you want to alter the script yourself, windows notepad or another .txt editor will suffice. But if you need some help, you can always use Visual Studio Code, it’s really handy for even beginners due to the interface and it might help you get into coding other stuff. Altering line 122 means you can change the ammount of times the script will level up the character. It’s set to five, so you will get from level 1 to level 6, but you can set it up as much as you want, just make sure that the character has the cash for it, see the explanation down below for more details.

Finally, you can try to speed up the animations with CheatEngine to make the leveling up take about half as long. But that was the one bridge too far to me. Not only do I not want to download that, due to several reasons, I do not want to be responsible for your machine if you do it. So, I am telling you that it’s possible, but I do not suggest it unless you are already an user of it and you don’t care for its downsides.
By my accounts:
One full level costs: ¥29.480.000.000 (29 Billion, 480 Million yen)
30 full levels costs: ¥884.400.000.000 (884 Billion, 400 Million yen)
305 levels cost: ¥8.991.400.000.000 (8 Trillion 991 Billion, 400 Million yen) <- This is the maximum that you can get at once, since it exhausts all the cash you can carry.
999 levels full levels cost: ¥29.450.520.000.000 (29 Trillion 450 Billion, 520 Million yen)
999 levels full levels for both characters cost: ¥58.901.040.000.000 (58 Trillion 901 Billion, 40 Million yen)
I actually had my calculator fail on me at the final one so I did it by hand and it might be a little off but it’s more to give you guys an idea of the magnitude of this endeavour. Plus, like I mentioned above, in the getting rich quick section above, you can only carry 9 Trillion Yen (¥9.999.999.999.999) at once with each character. So you will need to stop around each 300 levels to farm more cash. That is why I suggest leveling Majima to the max first, because a level 600 Kiryu, even on Legend difficulty and no armour, takes a while to be knocked down by the Mr Shakedown.
Closing remarks
So, this is a hodgepodge of stuff I kept trying and then writting down, it’s a bit messy but using the links you guys ought to be capable of getting an idea of what items can be combined to do what. I could probably expand more on it to polish this, but I already spent enough time as it’s and I would be surprised if a single person other than me ever reads or uses this.
Anyway, if you have a doubt about the game and I can help you, feel free to ask down in the comments. If you have something which you think ought to be added, I wouldn’t mind checking it out. Plus, feel free to rip all text and images for yourself, be it to translate or save in your PC. I would just ask for a mention or two but it’s not like it matters much. I also have a lot of public screenshots of the game in my profile, from pretty much every dialogue and minigame, so you can check those out for reference.
Also, can we acknowledge how bold of a move it was to hire AV actresses to play all of the platinum hostess apart from Yuki? The fact that we get to play dress up with them is just so freaking funny to me.
