Ever wished you could play as Garrus, Liara, Garrus, Tali, or maybe Garrus?It might not be perfect, but modding can make your dreams come true.
Introduction
This guide will walk you through modding your BIOGame.ini file so that you can play as your favorite squad members. However, it is important to know that this only changes the models. Effectively, you’re still Shepard (have his/her voice, act like him/her, get treated like him/her). This only changes the visual representation of your character, as well as what armor you can wear.
Also, this is my first guide, so please try to bear through any errors and let me know in the comments about any mistakes I need to fix or any areas that are hard to understand.
I found the process for modding the BIOGame.ini file here[www.gamefaqs.com], which anybody could find with a quick web search or two. I’m simply creating the information in a Steam Guide format to make it easier to find.
Modding the BIOGame.ini file
This mod is actually pretty simple. The first step is finding the BIOGame.ini file. It should be under your documents folder. Then BioWare > Mass Effect > Config. In the Config folder, you should find a file named BIOGame.ini or BIOGame.
At this point you might want to create a copy of backup of the file somewhere, so that you have the default.
Open BIOGame.ini with a word program of some sort (standard notepad should work fine).
Ctrl + F to open up the search of the document. Find the lines (without quotation marks) “m_femaleActorType=BIOG_Female_Player_C. Human.Human_Female” (for female Shepard) or “m_maleActorType=BIOG_Male_Player_C. Human.Human_Male” (for male Shepard).
To mod the game, simply replace everything after the “=” with the code for the squad member.
Example:
“m_maleActorType=BIOG_Turian_Hench_C.hench_turian”
^ This will replace the male human Shepard model in all of your games with Garrus.
