Overview
Just a quick guide explaining what the Poppo event is, how you unlock everything during it, and how to help speed up the process.
What is the Poppo Event?
If you read the patch notes you may have noticed the “-Intensified Poppo” part of it, which means the Poppo event is live. This can also be seen by the fact the usual toolbar icon for 100% Orange Juice is now Marie Poppo with sunglasses (or Rad Poppo, as it’s called).
During this event you can unlock special skins for Marie Poppo, as well as have a chance to face the Boss Poppo (if there is a Marie Poppo with one of these special skins active in the game).
Unlocking the Skins
There are a total of 4 skins earned during this event:
- Rad Poppo
- Dapper Poppo
- Boss Poppo (Glowing or Cyborg Poppo as players also have called it)
- Tuxedo Poppo
Rad Poppo:
Steal stars with Poppo’s hyper card (you don’t have to be Poppo herself to do it, however you obviously need access to the card).
The amount needed is 300 in Multiplayer, about 900 in Single Player (including Campaign), or any hybrid amount (example: 150 in multiplayer and 450 in Single Player would count).
You will notice a meter on the main menu next to Marie Poppo. It tracks your progress towards this (and must be returned to in order to claim the reward).
Dapper Poppo:
Must have unlocked Rad Poppo.
Defeat Bosses as Rad Poppo.
3 Bosses in Multiplayer, 9 in Single Player or once again any hybrid of the 2 (example, 6 in single player, 1 in multiplayer).
Same with the Rad Poppo unlock, you will need to return to the main menu to track progress and claim your reward once complete.
Boss Poppo:
This is done by killing a Boss Poppo as Marie Poppo
There is no meter tracking this, and you will not get a memo that you earned this reward, however you will find it under Body Colors once you unlock it for Marie Poppo.
Tuxedo Poppo:
Using the Boss Poppo skin, get kills on things wearing the Poppo Mask (Includes mooks, as well as players who have it equipped). Requires previously unlocking Rad and Dapper Poppo.
It’s approximately 12 kills in Multiplayer, or 36 in Single Player, or a hybrid of the 2. (If you get an exact number please feel free to let me know)
Who is Boss Poppo?
No, that isn’t actually Boss Poppo.
This is Boss Poppo.
It has a random chance to spawn in place of another boss when a Rad, Dapper, or Cyborg/Boss Poppo is in play (Approx. 25% Chance per Rad and Dapper Poppo in play).
It has +1/+1/-1 12HP for total stats, and as such as a boss it isn’t tough to kill. However due to it’s elusive nature and odd boss stats it can be tough to actually score the final blow on it (due to easily being able to do more than 1 damage to it).
General Tips for the Event
Obviously the biggest word of advice I can give for unlocks it to play with friends, or to find a lobby where players are trying to unlock it. It’ll speed things up, and you can avoid murdering eachother to allow other players to get the kills or hypers they need.
For Unlocking Rad Poppo
- Get Deck Fodder, to help speed up getting through the deck and to your hypers, as well as earn players stars that you can steal.
- Save your hyper for players who are at the very least level 4 so you maximize stars stolen.
- Since winning itself isn’t a priority, try to play on maps that allow you to avoid accidentally landing on a home space (Clover, for example), and route accordingly.
- Your hyper is basically the only thing that matters, other cards can just be thrown away for the most part.
- If able to choose field events, Charity, Regeneration and Miracle are good for slimming down the deck and keeping you going.
For Unlocking Dapper Poppo
- Oh My Friend! is your best friend for a card. If all players have it you get an extra 4 bosses for every deck shuffle.
- Use cards to help ensure you can get the last hit, such as Reverse Attribute Field, Big Magnum and I’m On Fire!
- Deck Thinner cards will help you and your friends get Oh My Friend!, or in single player help bots get it, due to the fact if they can use it they will use it.
- Good maps are ones with lots of battle spaces, so bosses are easier to find.
- Good field events are along the same lines as the Rad Poppo, due to the fact you only care about boss battles and securing the last hit.
- DON’T FORGET YOU NEED TO BE RAD POPPO
For Unlocking Boss Poppo
- Obviously you need to have at least 1 Rad, Dapper, or Boss/Cyborg Poppo in your party. Try to have multiples if possible to help maximize your odds of a Boss Poppo encounter.
- Otherwise for the most part just follow the same advice as Dapper Poppo. You are trying to simply kill a different boss that has only a chance to enter.
- If you think you have earned it but aren’t sure, make sure you check your Poppo skins, you get no notification of whether or not you unlocked this one.
For Unlocking Tuxedo Poppo
- Using map events such as Battlefield is a good call for this.
- Add as many cards that help battles as possible, like “I’m On Fire!” or “Super All Out Mode”
- Farm is a really good map, since the majority of spaces become battle spaces during Battlefield.
- Remember any NPC kill counts. Don’t hesitate to be a tad bloodthirsty.
- Make sure you have Boss Poppo skin equipped.
Closing Words
Thank you for reading this guide. I don’t know how long the event will be progressing, but with a bit of time and effort you can get all 3 skins in under a couple hours (even faster with a full party helping you).
As years go on values may change or it may have been wrong from the start, but the main goal is confirmed at the very least. I do apologize for any mix ups.
