Introduction
Welcome! Bought GTA 4 and want to play it so badly, but can’t because of stupid Social Club! I will fix your problem. First we will focus on the part where it will not even allow you to play offline or online because it says you are not linked or connected to social club. Once I find more errors or if you guys experience, make sure to tell me, I will be on the solution right away.
Error
This is probably the error you have received. Whenever you try to play GTA 4, you type in your Social Club account info…
But then you will get this error!
This walk through will help you solve this issue. If you have any more problems. I will help you get through this and other problems, once they arrive. I will make a video as well, highlighting everything in this walkthrough.
Make or sign into the Social Club Account
When you play GTA 4, the game requires you to have a Social Club account. It is very vital that you have one, otherwise you cannot play the game at all.

If you do not have a Social Club account, sign up here[socialclub.rockstargames.com]
You will be greeted by a page that looks like this. Make sure you sign in to an existing account, or create a rockstar social club account:
Now that you have fully created or signed into the account, we may proceed to our next step
Games for Windows LIVE
This is really annoying, but this may be the source of all problems. Make sure you guys have a Games for Windows LIVE account. Rockstar requires this so that you can connect online and save your game. You can download Games for Windows LIVE here[www.xbox.com]
Download the Client:
Then, run the installer from your downloads folder, and simply follow the instillation process!
1. Click Download to launch installer.
2. Click Run and follow directions.
3. Click Launch to open the client.

Great Job, now open the program, and you should be greeted by something that looks like this
Make sure you create an account. You can create an account here on the bottom left
Once you have created the account, or already have one, sign in!
Once you have signed in, you will have this pop up
Great Job, you have officially installed and created an account for Games For Windows LIVE. you have done evrything right, and we will continue to our next step. Also, it is important that you remained signed in for Games For Windows LIVE whenever playing GTA 4, same ruel applies for being logged intot he Social Club.
Linking accounts, being able to play
Now here is the fun part. We will link our Games For Windows LIVE with our Social Club on Rockstar. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE WHOLE TUTORIAL!
So, go to Rockstar’s Social Club here[socialclub.rockstargames.com]
It should recognize you as a member already.
Once you are on your page, on the left side it should say About Me, and have a bunch of options to link your Social Club to your account! What I want you to do is click the manage button.
Once you click manage, you should have a screen like this!
Do you see it? Games For Windows LIVE can now be linked! Click the Link Account button under the Games For Windows Live.
Play GTA 4!
Now when you open GTA 4, sign in using your Social Club login, and you are all set. If it gives you the error again, just press ok, and it will start the game anyways!

If nothing helps at all, you might be in the wrong guide. This is just for fixing GFWL and SC, nothing else. I no longer answer questions in the comments below.
At the bottom, these are some errors/fixes I found through research on how to fix GTAIV if it does not run properly. CTRL + F to find your error, and fix it!
GTA IV – WIN 8.1 N – game won’t start- fix
Symptom: Game won’t start after displaying the social club screen
Error Messages: ” Seculauncher failed to start application [2000]” and/or “WMVCore.DLL is missing”
O/S: WIN 8.1 Pro N 64 Bit (should relate to other “N” Versions as well)
Diagnosis: This game appears to require the windows media feature pack, obviously missing in European “N” versions
Fix:
1. Download the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1

2. Make sure you’re signed in to “Games for Windows Marketplace”
3. Run the launcher “…SteamSteamAppscommonGrand Theft Auto IVGTAIVlaunchgtaiv.exe” as an administrator
This picture is a simple error regarding WMVCore.DLL
GFWL Error 80048821 *FIX*
Basically, every time Microsoft changes it terms of use the GFWL software generates an error and blocks you logging in….So, this is how you fix the error.

log in with your account and accept the new terms of use and you can log in GFWL on your pc
Second thing to do is to check if you have two factor authentication enabled.
If this is the case you can not use your normal password for xbox/outlook/windowslive.
You have to create an app password and use this for GFWL.

I can’t get my GTAIV to run AT ALL…Drivers
Missing files or files gone corrupt? That is why you need to update your drivers for the game to work!

General Graphics Issues
DirectX:
Ensure your update your DirectX!
Note: These links will take you to the web installer. A 300KB program which downloads the latest DirectX release from Microsoft.

Clip Capture
This feature records the last ~30 seconds of gameplay, as you run around in GTAIV, and has been attributed to a lot of different loading and FPS issues. Go into your options menu, move to the “Game” tab, then disable “Clip Capture”.
Error Code RMN40
Cause: Windows XP SP3 required.
Solution: Please click here.
Instructions: Simply download and install.
Warning: The download is over 300MB and the installation can take up to an hour. Be careful!
This issue can also occur in Vista / Win7 if you are running Steam in XP compatibility mode.
Social Club Login Failed
Cause: Rockstar.
Solution: No fix for this issue as of yet. Only possible workaround is the following,
1. Launch GTAIV
2. Click “forgot password”
3. Reset your password to anything you’d like (even the same password again)
4. Try logging in again
If this does not solve the issue, and if you’re sure there are no firewall / antivirus issues, then there is nothing else that can fix the issue. I have personally tested the issue with dozens of people across the world running different setups and the issue remains constant with no real rhyme or reason.
The only other solution is to spam the login button dozens of times and eventually you may get lucky.
Error Code RMN40 (Windows Vista / Win7)
Cause: Rockstar.
Solution: Set GTAIV to Windows 2K compatibility mode.
Instructions:
1. Locate the GTAIV directory.
X:Steamsteamappscommongrand theft auto ivGTAIV
2. Right click “LaunchGTAIV.exe”
3. Select “properties”
4. Select the “compatibility” tab
5. Tick “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
6. Select “Windows 2000”
7. press “OK”
8. Run the game from the “LaunchGTAIV” exe
Bland Textures / Flickering Textures
Cause: You’re either running low on video RAM, system RAM, or your hard drive isn’t streaming content fast enough for the game to render everything at max quality.
Solution: Consider reducing your quality settings somewhat.
Error Code MMA10
Cause: Rockstar Social Club
Note: Also try the “Social Club Fatal Error” solution (below).
Solution: Simply log out of the Social Club before playing GTAIV. To sign out, click the “Log Out” button below your username int he Social Club window:
Notes: If you wish to play multiplayer, simply minimize GTAIV, log into the the Social Club, then maximize GTAIV once more. Multiplayer will work just fine.
Error Code RMN20
Cause: Windows Vista / Win7 SP1 required.
Solution:
– Windows Vista / Win7 32bit SP1
– Windows Vista / Win7 64bit SP1
Instructions: Simply download and install the correct version (either 32bit or 64bit)
Warning: The downloads are over 400MB and the installation can take up to an hour or more. Be careful!
Black / Missing Textures
Cause: Corrupt graphics drivers.
Solution: Please click here.
Alternate solution: Please click here.
Notes: Some users have reported that reducing their game resolution fixed the “no texture” issue.
Games for Windows Live Issues
Cause: –
Solution: Update your GFWL redist.
Instructions:
1) Click here
2) Click “Download the Latest Update”
3) Install
Graphics Restrictions
Cause: Rockstar attempting to protect us from ourselves.
Solution: Please click here.
Buggy Sound / White Noise
Cause: Old sound card drivers.
Notes: Only seems to affect Realtek Onboard Audio.
Solution:
1. Click here
2. Download and update
“Router Too Strict / NAT”
Cause: Firewall.
Solution: Add GTA to your Firewall exclusions list (Win XP/ Win Vista / Win7), and forward the following ports:
TCP/UDP 88
TCP/UDP 3074

Find your modem/router, then locate “XBOX LIVE 360” in the next menu.
Social Club Fatal Error
[link]Cause: Outdated .NET Framework.

Solution: Install the latest version of .NET Framework.

– .NET Framework v4.0
This Game is Currently Unavailable…
Cause: Obselete version of Visual C++.
Solution: Download either the 32bit Version, or the 64bit Version of Visual C++ redist.
Notes: If that fails to help, please click here. And if you don’t know what Windows version you have, head on over to Control Panel, then System. Look for either “32 bit” or “64 bit” in your operating system information.
GFWL Asking For CDKEY
Cause: Registry bug.
Solution: BE VERY CAREFUL IN YOUR REGISTRY
1) Click Start
2) Click Run / Vista / Win7 users simply need to type into the “Search” box
3) Type: regedit
4) Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER
5) Scroll down and locate “SOFTWARE” then expand it
6) Scroll down and locate “Rockstar Games” then expand it
7) Click on “Grand Theft Auto IV”
8) Locate your key in the right quadrant
Error At Main Menu
Cause: Outdated Adobe Flash.

Solution: Download and install both of the following:
– Adobe Flash Download #1
– Adobe Flash Download #2
“The Application Has Failed To Launch”
Cause: Bug when downloading GTAIV through Steam.

Solution:
1) Manually navigate to the Steam folder
2) Open “SteamApps”
3) Open “Common”
4) Open “Grand Theft Auto IV”
5) Open the “RGSC” folder
6) Double click “RGSCLauncher”
7) Click back
8) Open “GTAIV”
9) Double click “LaunchGTAIV.exe”
After completing these steps, GTAIV should launch successfully whether you open through Steam or “LaunchGTAIV.exe”
Game Pad Not Working
Cause: Rockstar.
Notes: Rockstar is currently working on adding support for a larger variety of game pads. Here is the current list of supported game pads:
