Overview

PTRD manualTank weak spots & PTRD tactics.Unfinished guide.I will finish it one day, I got enough screenshots.

Introduction

Hello

Before you jump into tank hunting,
be aware of abnegation required to play anti-tank rifle.
You will often die, and frag is not guaranteed.

First of all, I invite you to take a look here[www.redorchestragame.com] to see ammunition crate and engine position on official RO1 tanks.

Penetration angle is crucial :
you can be aiming the right spot but waste ammo if you don’t have the right 90° angle.
Take in account landscape effects over tank position : a tank on a hill can benefit a defensive angle.

Brief principles

To destroy tracks, aim middle wheels

To destroy ammo crates from side, aim middle cogwheel

Knock-off tracks or destroy tank?

Choice of a target zone is determined by your position and distance.
If you can’t have a 90° angle, aim tracks.
If you face an IS2, tracks are the only weak point.

Against light tanks : destruction even from front
Against medium tanks : destruction from flank or from behind (close & medium range)
Against heavy tanks : knock tracks from flank, destroy engine from back (close range)

Smoking tanks are weakened : few front shots can finish a black-smoking Tiger 1.
(as a tankist, if your tank is yellow or red, be ready to that risk)

Infantry transport

Work in Progress

From my experience,
PTRD rifle does not seems that effective against troop carriers : 5 shots for a complete destruction.
But a black smoking one can be finished by infantry grenades, especially when already on fire.

Both DP-28, MG34 can damage light carriers.
So 2 light carrier facing each other ara able to eliminate the other.
(think about aiming the gunner head for your defense)

Universal carrier : engine is backside.

BA-64, SdKfz 251 : engine is frontside.

Panzer III

Panzer III are medium tank from the begining of war who served during Poland and France invasion.
They are relatively weak due to their conception.
(History maniacs, have a look on Renault B1 light tank VS Panzer 3 medium tank)

In RO1, Panzer III can be destroyed by a single well-placed PTRD shot.
It is probably easier to destroy it than its tracks.

On this screenshot, you can see the cogwheel to aim to 1-shot.
Look a bit lower to see the 3rd & 4th wheels : they are the track spot.

For front-side weak points, see Stug III sheet.

Stug III

In both configuration (infantry support with smoke shell or tank hunter whit AP rounds), Stug III armor remain the same.

The middle cogwheel correspond to ammo crate.
To knock the track, aim the center of 3rd / 4th wheel or its suspension lever.
(if while proning you see both tracks, aim suspension lever wheel junction for better results)

Front weak spots (1 shot can be enough)

Shooting above driver’s window.

Shooting where MG should be.
(for Panzer III & IV aim close to MG : a bit left or a bit beyond)

Panzer 4 (both model)

Work in Progress

Reinforced Panzer IV with lateral plate shield are as weak as standard models.
This device only makes harder to evaluate the right spot to shoot ammunition boxes,
but checking turret position, you could visualize a vertical line a bit before the “2 coins-jacpot” spot.

Panther

Work in Progress

Destroy from back : try to aim the center-lower circle and hit it 2 times

Destroy tracks : aim the 2nd pair of wheel (the 1st is in front, the 4th is at back)

Tiger 1

Work in Progress

Destroy from back : at close range, shoot twice the center-lower part, below the 2 cylinders.

T-60

Work in Progress

Boom !

SU-76

Work in Progress

Can be “one-shot-killed” by side.

KV-1

Work in Progress

Where to shoot?
Somewhere over the rainbow !

(2-3 shots by side bewteen middle wheels and upper track side.)

T-34 (both models)

Work in Progress

T-34 76 & T-34 84 share the same chassis, so the same weaknesses (tracks, engine, ammo box)

IS-2

Work in Progress

PTRD is useless unless you shoot tracks, and even so, you need to practice !

Conclusion

Work in Progress

I should probably sum up stuff here, like :

  • advising again to check where are the 3rd & 4th wheel,
  • “get your friends close and your ennemy closer”,
  • in RO1, there are no cop to prevent players from driving drunk-dead (only admins that gently warn you to not annoy the other)….

But I will write it full later.

“Why to do tomorrow what can be done the day after?”
On those wise words, see you ingame !
