TIPS AND FAQ [QUESTING]

PLEASE READ THIS PART FULLY! It’s for your own good, to get a good experience.

A DIE IS CAST IS NOT THE END OF QUESTING!
This might sound weird, and despite what the game tells you and warns you if you decide to follow through, you can do all the quests it tells you that you will fail at the very last main questline Epilogue. During Epilogue the game sort of ‘resets’ if you will after the game has ended(Don’t worry, the game hasn’t ended after The Die Is Cast either but I wont say more), and quests you otherwise haven’t done during the game you can now do. Even DLC quests! I found this out by myself, after deciding to drop a ton of quests in my normal run. And to my surprise, I could suddenly now do a bunch of quests I had missed during my playthrough.

TIMED QUESTS? HOW DO I KNOW?
Most quests in the game are not timed, thankfully, however some of them are timed once you aquire or otherwise start them. An example of this is the quest Money for Old Rope, while I could postphone TAKING this quest for weeks in ingame days(despite this quest technically only having a week to finish and the related NPC’s had spawned), once I took it it was timed as it usually is which is one week(meaning, when I aquired the quest and could see it in my quest log). This means that when and, which quests we take is how we can manage our time in the game successfully and avoid the potential failed quest due to time miss management(i.e you have two timed quests, one fails because you didn’t have enough time to finish both in time or you didn’t even know it was timed to begin with!).

I AM NOT GETTING QUESTS/QUEST ISN’T ACTIVATING?
It is a sad reality but KCD is very, very buggy. One of these bugs are if and when quests become available, an example of this is that I personally could not get the quest Hare Hunt/Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing before the main quest Epilogue started. This means that even with all the information I have, and give you here, you may experience the game a bit different than me in terms of quests becoming available.

NPC Time

The game has an ingame time system that seems to control several things, like resets of events, counting the days so it knows what the current ingame day is, this is often used in games to control timers and triggers for events and quests, and the day counting usually plays a role to give the game a schedule for when x, y or z is meant to happen. This is confirmed in main quest line and side quest, however I haven’t yet confirmed it for quest spawning or events outside of as I said, main and side quest.

Dawn and dusk and npcs ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ timings

Dusk and after dark/just when it gets dark in the game is at 21/22
Dawn is at 6 even thought the sun rises at 5, this can be confusing when the npcs talk about being places or doing things when the sun rises. Because for npcs that’s between 6 and 12.
Morning is seems to be often between 8 and 12.
Noon is 12
And for the most part you should be very attentive to timeliness like these as they really do mean exactly as the hand touches the number.

Awakening – Main Quest #4

A list in order, and when to do them and if they are timed in relations to the MAIN QUEST BEGINNING AT AWAKENING, THE FIRST QUEST AFTER WAKING UP AT THE MILL AND ASSUMES YOU DO NOT PROGRESS THE MAIN STORY FROM HERE ON OUT BEFORE YOU HAVE FINISHED THESE.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE “YES/NO BUT YES/NO”, SOME QUESTS ARE TIMED ONLY ONCE YOU AQUIRE THEM, HOWEVER, THEY ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE GAME USUALLY AT ANY STAGE.

Awakening

From when you wake up in the mill, before you progress any in this quest, your current objective is to speak to Sir Radzig. This part is NOT TIMED, thus you can put the main quest on hold and you can go explore the world if you want in it’s current state.

  • Mightier than the Sword
Timed: NO – And the choice here is whether or not you want to play through illiterate or not, the game plays a little different if you can’t read, thus make your choice accordingly.
  • Though Love
Timed: NO but can’t 100% confirm, however it’s a quick quest that takes just a few minutes to complete.
  • Money for Old Rope
Timed: NO, BUT YES IF YOU ACTIVATE IT – You have one week.
  • New Herbarium
Timed: NO – Not entirely sure, quest doesn’t say a time it must be completed, but as I had everything in my inventory for this quest it finished imidiately.
  • Playing With The Devil
Timed: NO, even if you talk to the women but don’t follow them, you get another try. However, if you fail to follow them repeatedly, this quest “fails” in the sense that it will end.
  • Weeds
    Timed: NO
  • Saintly Remains
    Timed: NO
  • Restless Spirit
Timed: NO – However, unless you aquire the item needed for this quest before main quest number 19(monke boy) you can wait with this quest until you get to that stage of the game, or aquire it in other, shady, ways. The choice is yours.
  • Lost in Translation

  • The Queen of Sheba’s Sword
    Timed: NO
  • Fat Profits
    Timed: NO
  • At Your Service My Lady
Timed: NO BUT YES – This quest is timed once you start it, however you can wait a lot of days before starting it if you want.
  • Dead Men Tell No Tales DLC
Timed: NO, you can do this quest at any time in the game even if you have already, before taking it, faced the suspect. Just talk to the blacksmith Svatopluk, this quest was quite buggy for me and even reappeared during the Epilogue.
  • A Friend In Need
    Timed: NO
  • …Is a Friend Indeed
    Timed: NO
  • The Horse That Bolted
    Timed: NO
  • The House of God
Timed: NO BUT YES, this quest is time sensitive once you get to the final stages of it, so if you start it, do it in one go to be sure.

Mysterious Ways – Main Quest #10

After the raid on Neuhof these quests become available:

  • Fishy Business In Uzhitz
    Timed: NO
  • Waldensians
Timed: YES – As soon as you get this quest, it is timed, you have some days to progress it after just getting it from Hanush, but don’t delay it, do it right away.
  • The Sport of Kings
Timed: NO, you can take this quest whenever, but once you start Talmberg Horse Race it is timed and must be completed.
  • Talmberg Horse Race
Timed: YES – once you have this quest you must meet up the next day or the quest fails.

Baptism of Fire -> Question’s And Answers Main Quest #14-15

Now that you have cleaned up Pribyslavitz after doing all the quests that unlocked during Awakening, and you have just woken up in Rattay, all the DLC quests can be taken.

Available quests:

  • Pestilence
Timed: YES, DO THIS IMIDIATELY AFTER WAKING UP IN RATTAY!
  • Last Will And Testament
Timed: YES, HOWEVER YOU CAN FINISH IT REGARDLESS OF THE OUTCOME OF PESTILENCE. And it may have a different outcome depending on what you do during Pestilence, I will test this further out of curiosity.
  • From the Ashes DLC LOST IN THE WOODS – this entire questline is not timed,
however, some NPC’s are dependant on your choices and progress in certain questlines. I.E Mathew and Fritz will only accept going to work for you if you have finished their questline.
  • Sir Capon’s DLC HONEYED WORDS questlines are now available,
however the one involving the dodgy potion seller is only available if you did his first quest and successfully aided him, don’t worry thought, you can start this quest now, even if you forgot it, and then take the quest for the potion.
  • Capon’s Champion
Timed: YES, if you don’t participate, it fails.
  • Clothes Make The Man (this quest, you should take when it becomes available, for me this quest was buggy and unlocked at this stage of the game)
Timed: YES – it is definitely timed once you take it, but I believe there is no timer for when you can take it after this point in the game.
  • Robber Baron
    Timed: YES
  • Masquerade
    Timed: NO
  • Besmirched
    Timed: NO

  • Gallow Brothers
Timed: YES – SEE ABOVE, THIS QUEST GOES HAND IN HAND WITH A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE, YOU CAN ONLY DO ONE, SO MAKE A HARD SAVE IF YOU WANNA EXPERIMENT ON OUTCOME.
  • Delicacies – this quest is buggy, Andrew may or may not give it to you at this point in the story. However, you must have high hunting skill for him to consider giving it to you. If Andrew is dead, you can not aquire this quest nor Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing.
  • Hare Hunt or Sheep in Wolfs clothing following Delicacies from Andrew.
Timed: NO, both of these, even while having them in my quest log not having progressed them, I could posphone pretty much indefinitely so long as no relevant NPC has died.
