Overview
[Brevemente em português brasileiro!]VERY quick guide to achievements and a few useful tips. It will be gradually constructed, and will improve within time. Language and organization will have special attention in later updates. Collaborations are welcome and will be give credits.Don’t be fooled: despite being built upon a simple structure, Dead Pixels offers huge gameplay variety, thus leaving the possibility for doubts and short debates.
Achievements: clarification.
Dead Pixels has 30 unlockable achievements that can be easily organized into small groups: some are related to the completion of game modes, others depend on skills/special actions performed throughtout the game, and another portion by permorming cummulative actions. This organization can be easily noticed by observing how the developer designed their icons with different background colors: red, yellow, green, blue and pink.
1 to 5: campaign achievements.
These are achievements that are obtained by finishing Dead Pixels original mode (main story). Followed by the official description and icons, below you will find the ones unlocked by beating the game under certain conditions.
Ankle deep in the dead.
Finish the Dead Pixels on Easy or higher.
Waist deep in the dead.
Finish the Dead Pixels on Normal or higher.
Shoulder deep in the dead.
Finish the Dead Pixels On Hard or higher.
Buried in the dead.
Finish the Dead Pixels on Hardest.
Two against the world.
Finish a co-op game on any difficulty.
TIPS: the above achievements are pretty self-explanatory. However, it seems they are subject to “stacking”, that means if you beat it in co-op in hardest, it might unlock all of the first five (red) achievements.
6 to 8: Alternative game modes.
That’s it, simple as it looks:
There are 3 (three) different game modes that upon completion will give you 1 achievement each.
True ending.
Finish the solution game mode on any difficulty.
Time attack.
Complete a Last Stand time attack game.
Better than the guy that made the game.
Survive 10 waves in the Last Stand Survival mode.
TIPS: Coming Soon!
9 to 18: specific action achievements.
Saving ammo.
Kill 60 zombies with melee attacks.
TIP: If you are patient enough, start a new game and keep attacking every zombie you find with melee attacks. It will soon unlock, even before the middle of the second street. Normal mode is recommended. Almost forgot: heal whenever you need and don’t be afraid to spend money buying the needed amount of medkits.
Nice shot.
Kill 5 zombies with one shot.
TIP: The EASIEST WAY to unlock this achievement is to start a LAST STAND match and buy a Flamethrower as soon as possible. Then, wait until a large zombie group appears and hold the firing button until it pops up! Flamethrower has a nice a nice range and large possibilibity of killing many zombies in one combo, and this is what counts! Otherwise, you would have to wait until a late portion in the game where you would have enough money to buy a good gun with a wide range and also upgrade your shooting skills a lot. Last, it’s not easy to put 5 zombies in sight, anyway.
Bloodbath.
Reach a kill combo of 40.
TIP: There are a few ways to get Dead Pixels’ most popular steam achievement. Nevertheless, LAST STAND is again the way to go! In survivor mode, for instance, you can easily unlock it during the first wave of zombies. The standard (weak) gun and the two grenades with wich you begin the matches are just enough for you to achieve it! Throw your two grenades at differents groups of those fast zombies. Later, keep the pace with your gun. You shouldn’t have trouble during the first wave, anyway! If you still can’t get it, get the some great freezing/electric gun with a few ammo units for it. These are useful to keep combos high. To finish, with enough attention you may achieve it during original mode’s first or second street.
Pack mule.
Walk across an entire street over encumbered.
TIP: The secret to get this achievement is to get it as early as possible during the original game. During the first street, enter every place you can, and pick up EVERY ITEM you find! Early at the second street you should have enough items to make you over encumbered. Now, to actually make the achievement pop up, return to the first street (over encumbered) and then back again to the second one. The point is: this achievement will only unlock if you cross the entire stage (street) over encumbered FROM THE BEGGINING! This way, you should get it as soon as you enter stage three!
Chunks of zombies everywhere!
Kill 10 zombies with a grenade.
TIP: Easy once you understand that the standard hand grenade is not the way to go. Again, Last Stand modes will save you time and effort. As soon as you can, (after the first wave of enemies) buy any kind of grenade that has greater attack power and specially a wider range (Anti-tank grenade is recommended). Soon when a large group of those weak, green and shirtless zombies come, throw the grenade right in the middle of them. Sweet spot!
Kill it with fire.
Set 150 zombies on fire.
TIP: This achievement is easily obtained after several campaign playthroughs, in which you would have to unload large amounts of flame grenades at zombie hordes. However, buying the Flamethrower during a Last Stand match (Time attack or Survival modes) will soon get the job done. Make sure to buy enough ammo: 3 small tanks of gasoline should do the job.
Corpsicles.
Freeze 100 zombies.
TIP: You could use Freeze grenades during Last Stand, but at the cost of $3000 the Kaysen Freezer is fast and effective, even better than the more expensive Kaysen ZX-N Rifle. Remember to buy enough ammo: Tank of Liquid Nitrogen.
50,000 volts.
Shock 150 zombies.
TIP: You can buy and unload Schock Grenades at enemies during several playthroughs of Last Stand game modes. However, Kaysen Arc Cannon, at the cost of $3000, is a better and faster way of getting this achievement. Remember to buy enough of the Power Cell ammo. You should be able to buy it until round three if wisely playing.
Picked clean.
Empty 300 buildings of items.
TIP: It just takes a few playthroughs to achieve this. Yeah, you will definetely have fun playing Dead Pixels in different game modes and difficulties. Just make sure that you enter every building you find and press the button that makes you pick every item inside it. Later, as soon as you leave it, you may discard or sell whatever you don’t need or makes you heavy and slow.
It don’t belong to me.
Complete a game without raiding a building.
TIP: This one is strange. It seems that the original idea for this is that the player had to beat the game while not picking any items from inside the buildings. However, here it was achieved right after beating the original game on easy. This issue must be adressed to CSR productions for further clarification.
19 to 26: special enemy / killing achievements.
It’s a beginning.
Get 1968 kills.
TIP: As simple as its description. You don’t need to obtain 1968 kills at once. Play through the game a few times, try different modes and every kill you make is added to your counter.
It’s the humane thing to do.
TIP: Despite the fact that there is no description to this achievement, it’s so easy to get it! Simply play a Local co-op two player match and have one of the players die and become a zombie. Next, defeat it as soon as it transforms and the achievement will pop. Don’t worry, your ally can be revived at a trader store.
The Husk.
Kill the burning husk in the original game mode.
TIP:
The Queen.
Kill the Queen of spitters in the orginal game mode.
TIP:
The Experiment.
See the medical experiment die in the orginal game mode.
TIP:
The fiend
Kill the clawed fiend in the original game mode.
TIP:
The Infected.
Kill the infected survivor in the original game mode.
TIP:
The Sergeant.
Kill the ex-army sergent in the original game mode.
TIP:
27 to 30: trader store actions.
Back from the dead, but in a good way.
Resurrect a player in coop.
TIP: This is the easiest achievement to get under this category! Play the original game with a partner and have him die during a co-op match. Next, rush to a trader store so that you can revive him over there! If you are alone, you may boost this achievement by picking co-op mode all by yourself. Assign a joypad for you and assign another one (or the keyboard) to a second player. You will heve no difficulty in letting player 2 die and reviving him a soon as possible.
Supply and demand.
Sell a wanted item to a trader.
TIP: This achievement will certainly unlock early during your original game playthrough. Gather all the special items from within buildings and eventually some trader will pay you under a special price. Even tough the special items occur randomly, the game seems to make this one easy for you, at times.
Master of all skills.
Max level all skills.
TIP: Easier if you play the game on HARD mode or NORMAL mode. Avoid easy mode, since you won’t have time to save enough money.
If you’ve got the cash.
Spend over a million dollars in trader stores.
TIP: This will probably be one of your last achievements. It requires you to play through the game LOTS of times. Every dollar spent in every playthrough will be taken in consideration.
