Age of Empires II (2013) Guide

Quick MVP Scenario for Age of Empires II (2013)

Quick MVP Scenario

Overview

This is an update to a previous scenario used to get the three achievements related to being the Most Valuable Player. In this guide, I’ll explain how to easily get the MVP achievements, so you can do it by yourself, or you can just use my scenario from the Workshop.

Why this one and not any other?

Until version 4.3, it was possible to create a similar scenario to get these achievements, but after some updates, you need to do a different setup. This method is tested on version 5.5.2046259.

How to do this?

Comparing to the previous method, things start to differ inside the lobby. Here’s the step by step:

  • Create a scenario with 3 Players, including you.
  • Close one edge of the map with Player 1 Bomb Towers. The towers should have an empty (but closed) space, like a square.
  • Place a villager for Player 2 and Player 3 inside.
  • Place a villager for Player 1 (you) outside, or build a Town Center.
  • Save scenario and go to Multiplayer.
  • Create a private lobby with two AI and make alliance between all players (i.e. all in Team 1).

The lobby should look like this:

Uncheck Lock Teams and start the game. You’ll notice nothing is happening. That’s because you don’t have enemies.

Press Alt+D to open the Diplomacy window and mark both players as enemies. Don’t worry about the Allied Victory button. You should be fine by now.

As soon as you click OK, the towers will kill the villagers and you’ll win the game. You can now see the Most Valuable Player medal with your name on the Score screen. You just need to play this scenario 100 times. Good luck!

Important notes

In the previous method, you could use the same scenario, making alliance with just one player. Due to that, It was necessary to uncheck the Allied Victory button, so the game is not finished with an enemy killed and two allies remaining. After killing the enemy, you had enough time to go into the Diplomacy window and mark your ally as enemy and win the game.

After the updates, this is impossible, as you (and your ally) win the game before you open the Diplomacy window and set things up. And believe me: it’s fast as it looks.

With the new method, as you start the game with two allies and no enemies, you now have enough time to change diplomacy, and as you kill both villagers at the same time, you don’t need to worry about the Allied Victory button.

PS: You can use this scenario to get the achievements related to civilizations, like Hero and Conqueror, so don’t use it with random civs. Select the ones you need to defend and destroy.

Ready-to-use scenario

If you don’t want to waste your time setting things up, you can just use my scenario (exactly as described above) directly from the Workshop in this link.

As new updates are released, I’ll test the scenario and make changes to adapt it to the game.
