Radiation’s H1Z1 Battle Royale Guide [Detailed]

Overview

Hello! This is a guide to all you survivors out there who are new to H1Z1 or want to improve their skills in Battle Royale and hopefully end up #1!

Introduction + Getting into game

Hello everyone! My name is Radiation and welcome to my Battle Royale Guide for H1Z1! This guide is aimed at beginners so if you’re a little more experienced and have a few wins under your belt, this guide may not be for you. We’ll start off with getting into game. Chances are, if you’re reading this guide you have already purchased and opened up the game. To get into a Battle Royale game, click “Battle Royale” in the menu, select your region then click “Join Regular” for normal mode and “Join Hardcore” for hard mode.

If you’re playing with some friends, its slighly more complaicated. Click “Team BR 2 Person” or “Team BR 5 Person” depending on how many players you want to team up with. You will then be in a lobby. You can now invite your friends into your lobby and then click “Join Game”

After a short loading screen, you will be presented with a lobby area. All you can do now is wait! If you want to, you can apply skins, drive vehicles, get used to the controls if you need to and chat with other players you will soon be playing against.

After about 150 players have joined, you will face a loading screen then you will be in the game!

Landing

You are now in-game. Exciting isn’t it! What you do from here on is very important. You will notice that you’re in a parachute. This isn’t your average parachute though… it’s a H1Z1 parachute.

What this means is that you don’t actually have to go straight down from the sky. Moving your mouse around will bank and pitch the parachute. Aiming your parachute downwards will make your descend very fast whist angling it upwards will slow it down. The biggest tip I can give you in terms of parachute control is that for maximum distance, you should angle the chute in a way that isn’t so that you’re facing forward but now directly down either. About halfway is a good mark.

Also, a good tip for achieving maximum distance possible, aim your parachute about 90 degrees to the left or the right (on a horizontal scale) from where you want to land. Then, use the A and D keys to move your parachute to the opposite side of your LZ. This will ‘strafe’ your parachute to the left or right, depending on the key you press, and it will provide maximum distance speed. You should also aim at the horizon and NOT look down to travel the furthest.

The next biggest tip is that of knowing the actual spot to land. This one’s a little tricky to get the hang of but it will come in time.

You first need to decide what kind of environment do you want to land in, the city (high risk, high reward), the countryside (low risk, low reward) or somewhere in between. I personally prefer the city because there are a few more option in terms of where to go next after you’ve got what you came for.

The way to do this is a simple method but can be easily messed up. What you need to do is this. Above your resource bars (Health, Condition, etc) there will be “Position: A1” or wherever you are. you then need to memorise this code. It’s important! Now, open your map by pressing M (default key). If you have basic map reading knowledge, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out where you are by looking at the letters at the top and numbers on the side and looking at where you position intersects.

This next step relates back to what environment you want to land in. I prefer the city, like I said, so we’ll use Pleasant Valley (main city) as our example landing zone. In your map, figure out which direction Pleasant Valley is from your position (North, South, West, East). Great! You can now exit your map.

Then, look in the top right hand corner of your screen and you’ll see a compass reading there. aim your parachute towards Pleasant Valley and you’re good to go!

As you learn the map, you will often not need to look at your map to figure out where you will land. By looking at your surrounding whilst you’re in the air, you can often pick up where you are and where you need to head. This will come in time.

There is currently no drawback to landing awkwardly or too fast so you can go as fast as you want to hit the ground.

Looting

You have now landed at your desired landing zone. Awesome! We can now start looting our immediate surroundings. Looting is very simple but ill give you a list of the must-have things to remember to pick up.

  • Backpack – Military Backpacks are the best
  • Helmet – Anything metal will do (Motorcycle helmets are good)
  • Body Armour – Laminated Body Armour is the best (followed by plated then wooden)
  • First Aid – Have a good combination of both Tactical First Aid Kits and Field Bandages
  • Grenades – Pick your preference (I prefer Molotovs over Frag Grenades) but a lot of the time you won’t actually need them so it isn’t really a priority.
  • Weapons – You can have up to three. My favorite combo is .308 Hunting Rifle, AR15, and a Pump Shotgun (Hunting Rifles are found in Loot Crates that spawn every time the safe zone shrinks)
  • Vehicle – If you see a vehicle… take it! They are rare! If you have a choice, pick your preference (I like the OffRoader the best)

*A Quick Note on Ammo*
These are the ammo types for each weapon for begnners that don’t know yet:

  • AR15 = .223 Rounds
  • AK-47 = .762 Rounds
  • Crossbow = Wooden Arrows
  • Recurved Bow = Wooden Arrows
  • Hunting Rifle = .308 Rounds
  • R380 Pistol = .380 Rounds
  • M9 Pistol= 9mm Rounds
  • .44 Magnum Handgun= .44 Rounds
  • M1911 Handgun = .45 Rounds

Dealing with players

Get this into your head because it is very important!!!

>>> All players are a threat. Do not trust anyone. Take them out, loot them, and do not linger <<<

What I mean by this is… everyone is a threat! They are there to kill you as are you trying to kill them. Do not trust anyone! If they say “Hey let’s team, ill give you stuff” the best thing to do is to whip out your best weapon and pop them in the skull when they aren’t looking. Loot then and do not linger (you can loot them by hitting E on the bag that spawns next to their corpse). Don’t hang around once you have fired a shot. There is probably someone that heard that shot and is coming for you as you are looting them. You don’t want to be there when they arrive!

And most importantly, you don’t want to end up like this guy…

The Safe Zone

Ok… now that you’re on the right track in terms of looting and dealing with pesky players, you need to get yourself to the Safe Zone. At some point at the start of the game, there will be an anouncement saying that the Safe Zone has shrunk and that the Poison Gas will be release in 3 minutes. You then need to look at your map (M) and figure out where the Safe Zone is in regards to your position.

The Safe Zone will be marked with a green circle on your map. This area will not be affected by the poison gas.

If you do get yourself trapped in a wall of green gas, DON’T PANIC! There are actually ways of surviving. In the section on Looting, I explained that you should have a good combination of both Tactical First Aid Kits and Field Bandages. I said this because if you activate both the kit and the bandage, you will actually be HEALING in the gas.

This will give you some time to get the Safe Zone!

The Final Battle

This is it! You’ve made it this far and there’s probably under 10 people left in this game! Coming up is the most important part of the game so you better listen up! You need to get yourself it to a STRATEGIC location. The most optimal position for the final fight. Is somewhere with cover, a good view and a wall of gas behind you.

Having the gas behind you is such an advantage because if you think you won’t survive a certain gunfight in the last moments, you can simply run into the gas! You can then do the trick I mentioned in the previous section and you can actually SURVIVE! Crazy huh?

Also, another added benefit to this trick is that enemies can barely see you when you run into the gas and most normal people won’t run into the gas with you so you no longer have to worry about them!

You just need to stay behind you cover and slowly try to take people out, one by one. (Don’t worry because you’re not in a hurry at all!)

Conclusion

Well, there you have it! You have just won yourself a Battle Royale game! It’s a great feeling isn’t it?

Thank you very much for taking the time and effort of reading this guide, it really means a lot to me when I’ve helped someone out when they’re new.

Thanks again and good luck in you future games 😀
