Raising cubs – How to be a good parent.

Overview

This guide will teach you everything there is to know about being a parent to little cubs. It covers gameplay tips and roleplay to help you become a caretaker the little ones wont forget. You can joyfully explore and bond with cubs, or learn how to quickly and successfuly gather obelisk and shards.

First Meeting

If you have just arrived at the spawn tree there is a good chance someone might greet you. There are also times where you are traveling in a group and a lonely cub might wander in and try to get your attention. If you hear the yips or meows of a cub it is best to stop moving and look around. All types of cubs in the game are quite a bit slower than fully grown animals.

It is best for you to greet them with a wave and a smile. Remember that even if they are a different animal than you, they are still a cub who needs someone to help them and play with them. If the cub doesn’t run off on its own begin by slowly walking in one direction. If the cub starts to follow you, then congratulations! You have just become family.

General Tips

Here are some tips that apply to both roleplay and obelisk searching.

  • Always pace yourself. Cubs are some of the slower animals in the game.
  • If you go through an area with a lot of tree’s or rocks be extra careful. There is a chance that the cub might wander in the wrong direction.
  • If you don’t see the cub, check the map. If they have wandered off start making a lot of noise and moving in their direction.
  • Be sure to use a variety of emotes given to you. They will help the cub understand, especially if they are a new player.
  • An easy way to pace your steps is to alternate from running to walking frequently. If you pace yourself correctly you can continuously move at a speed that helps the cub keep up with you.
  • Always be kind! Every animal deserves to be treated with respect. Kindness can go a long way in making someone happy!

Roleplay Advice

Being Strong

If you want to be a good caretaker for a cub you must act very brave. Motherly animals will do their best to protect their cubs. Always make sure that your cub stays near you. If a predatory animal is nearby, try to keep your distance. If the animal shows signs of friendliness then you should be alright to approach them. Otherwise keep your cubs close and prepare to growl at a hungry fox!

Proper Discipline

Cubs are not always little angels. Many of them like to run off and get into trouble. Always keep your eye out for your cubs. Check the map frequently and use your sense button. Some cubs may run off to strangers and yell at them. To scold your cub simply use an angry emote and cry out a few times. Then start walking in a direction away from whoever your cub might have disturbed and continue on your travels with them.

Predator Attacks

Some of the trouble cubs get into comes with a heavy price. Predators are very sneaky so it can be easy for them to attack. If you notice your cubs being attacked run to them as quickly as possible. Get in the way of the predator and your cub and start growling. Make angry faces and dash around to try and scare the animal off.

Sick Cubs

If your cub is acting injured take it to a field of flowers. Herbal medicine is the best thing we have in the meadow. Have them lay down, then sit next to them or cuddle with them. Be sure to make some unhappy faces to show that you are worried for them. Also try using the flower symbol to let them know this will help them feel better. Leading them to a stream or cave puddle is good as well. Have them drink some water and rest next to you.

Play Time

Cubs have quite a bit of energy and need to play often. A good way of playing is to swim in a shallow lake or river. Another option is running around in circles, tail chasing is a very fun thing to do! If you find a ball gently push it to a cub. If you have more than one cub they can play with eachother. If not then you can toss the ball back and fourth with your cub.

Rest

Every once in a while you will come across a lovely den or a very comfy looking patch of grass. Signal for your cub to follow you and smile at them. If you lay down your cub should come snuggle with you. Sometimes little cubs get tired easily. If a cub falls asleep while traveling come and lay down next to them. If you want the cub to wake up simply make some noise and jump around.

Essence Hunting

Mountain Climbing

If the cub you are with is a new player, there is a good chance they don’t know how to do certain things. You can teach a cub how to climb by showing them. Find a small area to climb on and jump onto it. Then run while switching from your Left and Right or A and D keys constantly. This creates a zig-zag motion that can help any animal get up a steep area with ease. Once you reach a certain point stop and see if the cub gets it. If they don’t then you can search for an easier way to go up a mountain.

Obelisk

If you see an obelisk, use the obelisk symbol and make a lot of noise. Then start moving towards it and use the arrow to point which way to go. Once you both reach the obelisk start calling out to it. Use the shouting emote so the cub knows to copy you. If you come across a large obelisk or special obelisk pay attention to the symbols. If you cannot unlock it use the X symbol and make a sad face so they know to give up trying.

Scouting

Since grown animals are bigger and faster than cubs it can be easy for them to spot things. If you spot a flower or some essence that isnt far away, it is alright to run to it. Once there you can jump, speak and use symbols so that the cub will follow you. It is alright to travel a bit ahead of a cub, but don’t get too far away. Some cubs might not know how to use the map, and if you travel too far you won’t even show up on the map.

Groups

If you are in a group, still keep in mind that cubs are slower. Try to stay near the back of the group so that you and your cub don’t seperate. If you and your cub come across a group you can choose to join them or keep to yourselves. If the cub seems happy about meeting new people it is a good idea to join the group. It can help you unlock a larger amount of things and keep the cub on a straight path.

Saying Goodbye

Whether you enjoyed your time roleplaying or searching for essence there always comes a time where you must say goodbye. If the cub has to leave it might stop moving and yell at you to turn around. Make crying faces and speak to say how much of a good time you had with them. Stay by their side until they leave the map. If you are the one who has to go, walk up to the cub and wave goodbye. If you had an amazing time with them you can leave them a thank you note in a thread. Or you can try and add them as a friend. Goodbyes are never a happy thing, but there is always a chance you can see your cub again. And maybe the next time they will be a different animal who’s learned so much from you.
