Recording with Shadowplay

Overview

The aim of this guide is to provide a simple method to recording AoEII:HD with Shadowplay.

How to do it

If you have Shadowplay on your Nvidia GPU, but like me, discovered that Shadowplay doesn’t seem to recognize the game as such, you can try this simple workaround.
Shadowplay doesn’t recognize the game as it was made compatible for DirectX 5 and 6, while Shadowplay only supports DirectX 9 and above.
First open your Geforce Experience panel, either in the toolbar or by searching for “Experience” in your start menu.

Then navigate to the “shadowplay” tab,
and make sure “Allow desktop cature” is checked. It isn’t by default.

You can also play with other settings, like an FPS counter, but that probably isn’t necessary for a game like this.

And you’re good to go. Launch the game as normal and start the recording with your recording button (default is alt-f9). Enjoy!
