Reform Programs: How to Get Prisoners to Pass Them.

Overview

Making successful reform programs can be quite tricky. This guide will help you make your prisoners pass them and hopefully help make a successful reform prison.

What are reform programs?

Reform programs in Prison Architect are classes in the game that you can have prisoners attend through the “Programs” bar on the right side of your screen. Some prison labor jobs in the game require a prisoner to pass a program before they are able to work there, such as the kitchen or the workshop. Having prisoners successfully pass reform programs raises your “Reform” rating on both the prisoner and your official prison grading, and lowers their chances of reoffending, which can help them pass parole and earn you money.

However, getting prisoners to pass them can be a bit tricky, and this guide will help you with that. [link]

Concentration and Understanding

Two factors define a prisoner’s chances of passing or failing a program, and that is Concentration and Understanding. The understanding factor is mostly random, but concentration is determined by how good the prisoner’s mood is. The prisoner’s mood is determined by how well they are taken care of in terms of their needs.

The lower a prisoner’s needs, the more likely they are to have good concentration and pass the program. Because of this, the best times in the regime to put reform programs are:

  • Early in the morning after showering/eating
  • After 1-2 free periods or yard periods, so they can tend to their needs
  • After a good meal when they have the “Well-Fed” effect

It will also help if you have many recreational options for the prisoners and their needs, such as libraries, well-equipped common rooms, shops, etc. Having private cells rather then dormitories for the “privacy” need will also be a benefactor.

Suppression and Calming

Suppression will greatly harm a prisoner’s chances of passing a reform program. To deter this, keep armed guard patrols to a minimum and don’t let punishments go on for too long.Calming will help a prisoner’s chances, which can be achieved through the “Spiritual Guidance” program. There are also other programs that you can install through mods that help with this. [link]

The End

That’s about it. Hope you found this helpful! Thanks. [link]
