Resident Evil 4 – Mercenaries Tips

Overview

This guide will give you a few tips on how to take on the mercenaries in Resident Evil 4.

Intro

The mercenaries is an arcade mode that will unlock once you finished the main campaign. The mode itself is very simple to understand, kill as many enemies as you can before the timer runs out. time pillars are scattered across each map, and each time pillar will give your 30 or more seconds extra to your timer. If you die, you won’t recieve the point that has been scored. there are 4 maps across the mode and 5 playable characters. each map has it’s own enemies and mini bosses.

Maps – The Village

The Village has a pretty easy layout and you should remember it from the start of the game.

Enemies:
The Ganados: They are very easy to kill, however, don’t waste ammo when you kill them. Shoot them in the head for best results. But watch out, even though it is day time in the stage, Las Plagas will still come out of Los Ganados if you shoot their heads off.

The bella sisters: 2 chainsaw wielding ganados who can kill you in one go, so watch out for them. Best to take them out as quick as you can, because leaving the bella sisters walking around will eventually spawn 2 more sisters. They can take a lot of damage, such as up to five bullets from Wesker’s killer7.

Time pillars:
There are 5 time pillars in the village, the locations go as followed:
1.30 secs – Take the trail to the left of the entrance to the village.
2.90 secs – The barn with the two big doors.
3.90 secs – Behind the tower (don’t get trapped there because it is a dead end).
4.90 secs – The house with two rooms, in the main game you have to shoot a lock to get into the second room. Or jump through the window of the house to get straight into the second room.
5.30 secs – The barn opposite the window of the house that contains time extension 4

Bonus Locations:
Each map also contains bonus chests, these chest grand you 1000 points for each kill you make in a peroid of 30 seconds. Here are the locations:
1.Second level of the barn where time extension 2 is.
2.Second room of house where time extension 4 is.
3.Behind the barn with two levels, turn right.

Maps – Castle

This map is very complex, so you better play the other maps first to gain experience.

[/u]Enemies:[/u]
Zealots: The Zealots are the creepy cultist from the main game. The best to deal with Zealots is to shoot the head. If they are in a big group it’s wise to shoot the legs and drop a granade in the group.
Garrador: The Garrador is a tough one, you may remember him as the big blind guy with the long claws. The Garrador hears you shooting Zealots, so if he’s close try to finish him off first. Here’s how: Go stand near a wall and shoot the Garrador, this will draw his attention and he comes running towards you. Once he’s running, run away from the wall to get him stuck. Now get your best gun out and shoot the Plaga on it’s back. If this won’t work for you, try spamming grenades.

[/u]Time pillars:[/u]
The locations of the time pillars go as followed:
1.Right after you run up the stairs from your start point, turn right. (60 sec)
2.When you run up stairs from starting point, turn left and go up the second staircase. There is one there. (60 sec)
3.Once again, up from starting point and turn left. Instead of taking the stairs stairs, go through the door on the left. Run up (there will be two ways; one is another staircase) the other way, and you should get onto the tower where Leon pulled up a cannon in story mode. In the little house on the end. (60 sec)

[/u] Bonus Locations: [/u]
The special bonus chests locations go as followed:
1.In the room where time extension 3 is.
2.In a room with a lot of windows where time extension 2 is.

Maps – Army Base

This maps is pretty simple, it’s a great map for starters and also has a very easy layout.

Enemies:
The enemies in this map are the weakest out of the other maps. Ada and Leon’s handguns can kill them in 2-3 shots normally.
Soldiers: The Soldiers carry a variety of weapons including dynamite, stun sticks, and many other weapons. Aim for their head as this is most effective. Still, watch out for the pesky Plaga that can come out from the head.

J.J.: He’s that Ganado that has that massive machine gun that takes most of your life away. The best way to kill him is to hide and when he stops shooting, run out and give him a few shots, aim for his head as it will kill him quicker. J.J. gives you a higher score than normally, so be sure to kill him when you see him.

Time pillars:
The time pillars on this map really don’t need explaining. You can see almost every time pillar from the start and are fairly easy to get.

Bonus Locations:
1.On the very top platform, sometimes you start on it.
2.You travel through a tunnel, go up a ladder, and there should be a chest on top of boxes beside a breakable box.
3.After the zip-line.

Maps – Water World

This is the only map that’s not in the game, that’s what makes it fun.

Enemies:
Soldiers: see above on Army Base.

Giant Chainsaw Man: He is a much bigger and more deadly version of Chainsaw Man, that Ganado with a potato sack over his head and holding the deadly chainsaw. This guy is almost impossible to kill and spawns directly at the start of a round. Don’t use ladders to run away from him, he can just jump to the destenation. Use grenades and explosive barrels to kill him the fastest way. Be sure to kill him as fast as you can, he can be a pain if you let him live.

Time pillars:
The same thing goes here, the pillars are easy to see and easy to get.

Bonus Locations:
1.If you start in the house, run straight forward (not outside, but to the back of the house) and then left. Through the door. You should see it. Careful: sometimes there will be a super salvador in there.
2.Under the tall tower structure (with about 3 floors).
3.In the second house (on the other side of the map). Careful, there could be a super salvador there too.
