Overview
This guide is about weapons; where they are, how to get them, how much they cost, their stats and more.Obvious spoiler warning.Special thanks to people that corrected my mistakes and just gave their personal opinions and tips.
Pistols
M92F
This is the pistol that you begin your game with and if you want to buy it from the shop, it costs 2000₦.
It is the least powerful out of all pistols, but it has the most ammo and it unlocks the M93R once it’s fully upgraded.
I would personally advise to keep it, if you have bad aim it’s really helpful.
Upgrade Chart:
H&K P8
This is the second pistol that you unlock in the game once you reach chapter 3-1. You don’t get it for free, you have to buy it for 4000₦. It is pretty good, it does nice damage, it reloads quickly and it pierces up to 5 enemies. It doesn’t have as much ammo as the M92F, but it gets the job done.
I would recommend using this weapon in later chapters against armored enemies, since it has the piercing effect.
Upgrade Chart:
SIG P226
This is the strongest out of all 3 campaign pistols. You can buy it after reaching chapter 5-1 for 4000₦.
It has the most firepower, but it lacks ammo and has a pretty slow reload speed, also it costs the least to upgrade.
Use it whenever you like, it does nice damage, but lacks other upgrades, so I wouldn’t really recommend it.
Upgrade Chart:
M93R
This is a 3 round burst pistol. You can unlock it after fully upgrading the M92F, it costs 30,000₦.
This is a pretty powerful pistol, since it shoots 3 bullets really quickly and is the second most powerful pistol in the game.
I would personally recommend it, since it’s really powerful, but it’s locked until late game, so you don’t really need to use it, since you will most likely have better weapons in your inventory and it’s really expensive to upgrade.
Upgrade Chart:
Px4
This is a special pistol, only usable in the Mercenaries mini-game by BSAA Jill. This is a really powerful pistol, it has high damage and the biggest critical chance, it’s impossible to upgrade it. Pretty much every shot is a headshot, only the majini with plagas survive a shot from this beast.
Since this is impossible to get without modding, I can’t recommend it.
Stats:
M92F/Samurai Edge
This is another special pistol that can only be obtained in the Mercenaries mini-game. This pistol is only usable by S.T.A.R.S Wesker or Barry Burton (DLC) and is used by Wesker in the campaign. It has nice damage and average reloading speed with capacity. Once again, I can’t recommend it, since it’s not obtainable without mods.
Stats:
Shotguns
Ithaca M37
This is the first shotgun that you find in the game, you obtain it by getting a key by throwing Sheva on top of a roof. You unlock a door right before the Allyson fight in 1-2 and if you missed it, you can buy it for 2000₦.
Ithaca is pretty good in the beginning, since you can easily get it almost in the start of the game.
It has good damage and knocks back enemies, but it has a slow reload speed and only 6 bullets while unupgraded.
Upgrade Chart:
M3
This is the second shotgun that you can get in the game, it’s in the case in 3-3 in second dock area. If you miss it you can purchase it for 4000₦.
It does a lot of damage, but it’s outclassed by other shotguns for lacking accuracy and capacity.
It wouldn’t recommend it, since it has bad reloading speed and low capacity, it’s only good against hordes of enemies from close range.
Upgrade Chart:
Jail Breaker
This is the third shotgun that you find in this game. You can find it in chapter 6-1 at the bottom of the deep stairwell and incase you missed it, you can buy it for 4000₦. It is pretty good, since it has a nice amount of ammo, quick reload and good range.
I personally use it when I find it if I don’t have anything better.
Upgrade Chart:
Hydra
This is the most powerful shotgun in the whole game. It deals tons of damage close range or long range. It shoots out a lot of pellets, and if all of them hit, the damage this shotgun deals is insane, it reloads pretty slow, so inventory reloading is advised. The amount of ammo is nothing special too, so it might not be the best choice.
This is the most powerful and badass shotgun ever in the game, so what’s keeping you from using it?
You get this weapon by fully upgrading Ithaca M37. It costs 30000₦.
Upgrade Chart:
Machine Guns
VZ61
This is the first and probably the worst SMG in the game. You can find it in chapter 1-1 near the red gate, the one that Kirk explodes. If you miss it, you can buy it for 2000₦
It has low firerate and damage, but has a ton of ammo. It’s pretty bad in the beginning, it does really low damage and just eats your ammo up.
Once you fully upgrade it and beat the game, you get the Gatling Gun for Chris.
Upgrade Chart:
H&K MP5
H&K MP5 is the second SMG that you find in the game. It’s located in chapter 2-1 in the beginning in the metal briefcase. Incase you miss it, it’s available in the store for 2000₦. This SMG is OK in the beginning, it has a piercing effect, which is useful and has a lot of ammo. It’s damage is not too bad either. It is the cheapest SMG to fully upgrade.
Upgrade Chart:
AK-74
The AK is the third machine gun that you can find. It is located in chapter 5-1 right after the first licker room. If you missed it, you can buy it for 4000₦. It has massive recoil, and doesn’t really have much ammo. It’s not a really good weapon to use, but if you want to, sure, go on.
Upgrade Chart:
SIG 556
SIG 556 is the last machine gun that you can find in this game. It is available in chapter 5-2 near the conveyor. If you missed it, it’s available for purchase in the shop for 4000₦.
This weapon has OK damage, it’s main feature is that it has a really fast reload speed and a high rate of fire. It doesn’t have a special effect.
I personally don’t use machine guns, but it seems good, so use it at your own will.
Upgrade Chart:
Rifles
S75
This is the first sniper rifle that you get in this game. It’s pretty much impossible to miss it, since it’s located in a warehouse in chapter 2-1.
The damage it does is really good in the beginning, it is pretty much an insta-kill on normal majini, it’s really good to take out the chainsaw majini when you first meet him.
Upgrade Chart:
Dragunov SVD
This is the second sniper rifle. This one’s easy to get, since it’s located literally in same room after the cutscene with Irving in chapter 2-2. If you still somehow managed to miss it, it’s available for 4000₦.
This is a fairly good weapon, it does less damage than the S75, but it has semi-automatic firing. I use it whenever I can, it’s one of my favourite weapons.
Upgrade Chart:
H&K PSG-1
This is the third and last sniper rifle is found in the game. This weapon is located in chapter 5-3 in a room with the generator for the moving platform. If you missed it, it’s available in the shop for 4000₦.
This weapon is really good, because it has the biggest zoom and it has good damage. I use it when I fully upgrade it, when I don’t, I use the Dragunov.
Upgrade Chart:
Magnums
S&W M29
This is the first magnum that you find. It’s strong, and easy to find. It’s located in chapter 3-1 on a dead BSAA soldier’s body in the little spike trap area in the village. If you managed to go through without picking it up, it’s availabe for purchase for 3000₦.
This weapon has a lot of firepower, it takes out normal majini instantly, while the big ones take 2 to 3 shots. It has larger firepower than the L. Hawk, biggest capacity and it has a fairly nice recoil.
I recommend saving up ammo on this bad boy for boss fights or big majinis/their mutations.
It’s nice to upgrade this weapon as soon as possible, since it has a piercing effect and it unlocks the most powerful magnum that exists in the game; S&W M500.
Upgrade Chart:
L. Hawk
This is the second magnum that you can find, it’s located in chapter 5-3 in Wesker/Jill boss fight, near the end of the chapter, on the second floor in a sarcophagus with some jewels in it. You’ll need help to open it, so you’ll want to have your partner with you. It might be difficult to obtain sometimes, because of Wesker being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and following you up there, but you can run from him and hide, and safely grab it. If you can’t get it, it’s in the shop for 5000₦.
It has nice damage and it fires really fast compared with other magnums, it reloads pretty fast too and has a piercing effect.
It’s cool, but I don’t use it, because I most likely already have the S&W M500 or just have an upgraded S&W M29, which is stronger.
Upgrade Chart:
S&W M500
This is either the last, or the second magnum that you can get, depends if you chose to upgrade the S&W M29 early, or in the end. This is the most powerful weapon in this game, excluding the rocket launcher. This weapon is only available for purchase in the shop, it’s impossible to find it. It costs 30000₦.
As i’ve already mentioned, this weapon is just completely overpowered, it’s fun to just blast through the hordes of enemies the game is throwing at you, but it might get boring after a little while. Still recommended.
Upgrade Chart:
Grenades
Hand Grenade
This is a simple hand grenade, that explodes after a few seconds when thrown. It is found randomly across the whole game. It deals 1500 damage when exploding near the feet of an enemy and 1000 damage when caught in the radius of the explosion around it.
Incendiary Grenade
This is a grenade that spits out fire when exploding. It is too found randomly across the whole game. It deals 500 damage when hit directly or caught in the radius.
Flash Grenade
This is a grenade that explodes with bright light and stuns enemies. This grenade is also found across the whole game. It doesn’t do any damage, however it can instantly kill mutated majini.
Proximity Bomb
This is a simple mine, that can be found through out the game after chapter 2-2, after the Popokarimu fight. It deals 1500 damage to the enemies that step on it, and 1000 damage to the surrounding ones.
I don’t really use them, unless I know a slow boss that will surely step on them, like Popokarimu, the bat boss.
Extras
This is the Grenade Launcher. It is found in chapter 4-1 in a chest on the upper floor in the statue puzzle room. It’s also availabe in the shop for 10000₦. It’s pretty strong, it has different ammunition: flash rounds, explosive rounds, acid rounds, flame rounds, electric rounds, nitrogen rounds. It takes around 3.10 seconds to reload.
This is the strongest found weapon in the game, it deals 30000 damage.
It first appears in chapter 3-1 in a boat in a case. It then will cost 10000₦ to buy.
It is really strong, it pretty much insta-kills everything, bosses, majini, even players. It is advised that you stand back when shooting it. You can also unlock infinite ammo on it by completing the game under 5 hours, you can do different chapters and get lower times on it, it is not necessary to do it in one sitting.
This is a weapon that is Chris’s exclusive, and is pretty powerful, but insanely slow and expensive. It is unlocked by fully upgrading VZ61 and completing the game. Once unlocked it has infinite ammo, and it costs 50000₦ to buy. The ammo box on Chris’s back can serve as a bullet shield. It is not recommended to use the Hydra with it, since the box blocks the view.
This is the only bow available in the game for the player. It is available after fully upgrading the S75 rifle and it costs 50000₦. It has infinite ammo and it does 1500 damage per hit, meaning that it almost instantly kills all normal majini.
This is the default weapon that you have, you can’t unequip it, or use it as your main weapon. All characters have different knives, Chris’s knife is shown in the picture above. The knife is pretty bad in Resident Evil 5, it does only 50 damage, meaning that it’s not worth cutting your enemies to death, unless you want to save up on ammo.
The stun rod is a simple, yet pretty powerful weapon. It is available for purchase in the shop after chapter 2-3 for 3000₦. It takes up an inventory slot, so it’s not really advised to use it, but it still depends on you. It can kill normal majini in 1 to 2 hits. It can also do headshots, but it’s pretty difficult to pull off. I personally don’t use it, but it’s a pretty fun weapon to go and kill majini with.
This weapon is not obtainable in a normal playthrough without modding, it’s only available as a special weapon in chapter 5-2. It has 100 ammunition, and consumes 5 per second. It’s useful for the Uroboros Mkono fight, since it’s vulnerable to heat.
The Laser Targeting Device is a special weapon that appears in chapter 6-2. It’s only usable on Uroboros Aheri, unless, as mentioned before, using mods. It takes time to lock on and it doesn’t work on normal majini. It’s powerful enough to destroy one of Uroboros Aheri’s weak spots in a single shot.
