Resolve your crashes – Advise for AMD GPU users on Mantle

Overview

I own a AMD Mantle capable GPU (Radeon HD 7970) and of course I started the game using the Mantle-option. The first things to notice was, that my game crashed after 2 hours of gameplay, then after 1 with BSOD and finally, my system was instable even in other games, which maked me wonder, if my hardware is defect. I checked my mainbaord, it was cool. I checked my GPU – and it was hot. The PCB was hot. Next thing I did was to watch MSI Afterburner for the GPU temps. I started for a test run Assassins Creed Black Flag and…. crash – after 10 seconds. GPU was at 40°C. At this point, you ask yourself, if your GPU is defect. But worry not: The solution was a simple fix:I used a Driver cleaner for my AMDs display drivers ( Display Driver Uninstaller [www.wagnardmobile.com] – thank you Guru3D) and reinstalled the actual NON-Beta drivers. (for AMD Display Driver[support.amd.com] ) Result: After having an instable system that is not able to take on any 3D-load, I’m running it now totally stable for over 8-hours without any issues. I still applied a custom fan-setting in Afterburner, just to be sure.TL;DRWipe your system of the AMDs actual beta drivers with a Cleaner-Tool and re-install the most recent non-Beta-driver.
