Restless Child’s Guide to Spirit Abyss

Overview

Everything about Spirits Abyss.

Clan Alchemistro

Clan Alchemistro

You start with average jump height and a low damage ranged attack.
Bombs are capable of busting through two blocks on contact.

Both of these upgrades affect your bombs.
Missiled Enchant increases wall destruction and makes your bombs no longer affected by gravity.
Necrosis Enchant increases blast size and makes your bombs deal more damage.
Combined, you’ll take out huge chunks of the level per bomb.

This allows your basic attack to bounce off of walls. It’s not very useful on its own, but becomes very strong with the addition of Focalic Incant and/or Buckshot Incant.

This gives you significantly boosted range. Pretty useful to have, considering Alchemistro’s naturally shrimpy shot range.

Converts your normal shot into buckshot. Doesn’t increase damage, but gives a better shot of hitting your mark. Funny with Focalic Incant.

Replicates your shots. Basically useless since enemies have invincibility frames, and 99% of the time it fires, it’s inside of a wall.
You can get this multiple times. That’s not a good thing.

Clan Katanachi

Clan Katanachi

You get a high damage and rapid swinging sword, and the only class in the game with “traditional” bombs.
Your bombs won’t explode on surfaces, but DO have a timer. You can also ‘cook’ bombs by holding the bomb button, and throw them at specific times to have the bomb detonate in the air.

Increases the damage of your sword. Useful for the boss if you’re not just bombing it to death.
Otherwise, there’s only a handful of enemies that don’t just die in one hit to your default sword, and those enemies don’t get oneshot by the empowered sword either.

Increases the explosion damage and radius of your bombs. Solid upgrade, helpful for bombing bosses to death.

Adds a ranged attack to your sword, but only while swinging straight ahead.
There’s not many situations this is useful since it deals less damage than the sword and gives immunity frames to whatever it hits.

Allows remote detonation of bombs. Helps for actually getting your bombs to explode where you want, and allows for easy shopkeeper murdering. Also is basically required for bombing bosses to death. Overall useful and good upgrade.

Makes your bombs stick to surfaces. Pretty solid for bombing gems on walls/ceilings.
You CAN charge your bombs and kick them to the same effect, but this is much easier and a good upgrade.

Also doesn’t work if you’re too close to a wall for ??? reasons.

You get two orbitals for blocking projectiles. They’re pretty pleasant to have around, especially during the boss. Also notably kills ghosts.
You can get this upgrade multiple times, and it’s exponentially better for the more you have.

Clan Minesmithers

Clan Minesmithers

Literally the best class in the game.
Doesn’t have bombs, each “bomb” swings your pickaxe. This hits the block in front of you if possible, or the block below that one if there’s none.
Low jump height, and a massive melee attack that ensures anything in front of you will either die or regret living.
Gains quadruple bombs from all bomb pickups.
You CAN get softlocked ejasily if you’re not careful with jump positioning or bomb saving.

This gives bonus bombs from each pickup. You already get quadruple, but take this if you really need that many.

This gives 1 bomb each time you mine a wall with gems.
If you take this and don’t have 99 bombs one level later, you’re doing something wrong.

This conjures a hammer with your melee swings.
The hammer does half normal damage, and can give enemies invincibility frames.
If you swing your melee, you WILL damage enemies with the hammer before your melee strike.
This basically means your melee strikes will deal half damage. Don’t take this.
Even if you’re on arena mode, it’s a rough call.

This boosts your jump height. It’s okay to take if you couldn’t find another jump-boosting item.

This increases your swing speed, AND your bomb mining speed. It’s very pleasant to have.

Orbital that moves rapidly, damages enemies, destroys projectiles.
It’s literally the best orbital in the game.

Committing Crimes

Killing shopkeeps is very easy to do as long as you know how to do it.
Below is a short clip of each class killing a shopkeep without items.

Ideally, you’re either going to kill them by being somewhere you can hit them and they can’t hit you, or by killing them with a single bomb. Once killed, shopkeeps will always drop 1000+ gold, and you’re allowed to take their shop’s contents.

Be cautious, as merchants can become enraged by breaking a block of their shop, hitting them with an attack, or supporting BDS.

Minesmither :
Shopkeeps can’t hit through blocks.
You can.

Also, they always shoot one block high, you’re able to cheese them by standing as shown in the clip OR digging through the floor.

Items – Passive

Padded Armor :
Reduces damage taken by 33%.

Succulent Fruit :
Gives additional HP if low at end of stage.

Boot Spikes :
Allows you to deal damage by stomping on enemies.
This does equal damage to Shinobi and Alchemistro’s basic attacks, and less damage than melee range attacks.
This item does not work on small flies and bosses.

Bomb Dust :
Gives you a bomb pickup if you are low on bombs at end of stage.

Monstrous Tome :
Increases your damage dealt against bosses.

Enrealment Cloak :
Allows you to go into stealth while not jumping or attacking.
This isn’t very useful because enemies do contact damage from stumbling into you.
Also, not being able to jump means you’re generally going to be invisible and unable to do anything useful meanwhile.

Cutty Cutlery :
This gives a chance to add +1 to bomb/heart pickups.
Also applies to the heart pickups from Confession Macabre, Choccy Bar, Bottled Fairy.
Godlike item for getting bonus health.

Seraphus Feather :
Gives you a double jump.
Refreshed after touching the ground once.

Cracked Hourglass :
Extends buffs. Not super useful – the only stat buff worth having is invincibility. Extending Bernard’s Watch or Choccy Bar doesn’t actually do anything useful.

Confession Macabre :
Adds a chance to gain one heart when killing an enemy.
Justifies bloodlust.

Charmed Claw :
Boosts positive chances.
Seems to work nicely with Cutty Cutlery and Wards Amulet.

Bloodied Map :
Gives full map knowledge.
This item is made slightly less useful by the map being useless in the first place.

Gleam Monocle :
Removes the shadow effect on the edges of the screen.
This item is purely aesthetic.

Puzzle Box :
Gives a consumable item or pickup at the start of each stage.
Pretty useful.

Wards Amulet :
Gives a chance to avoid damage when taking a hit. If Infernal Thorn is equipped, you avoid damage but still counterattack with an explosion.

Winged Shoes :
Boosts movement speed.

Greasy Wrench :
When using a consumable item, uses consume half the normal amount of durability.
For some single-use consumables, this will give an additional use.

Springy Sandals :
Boosts jump height.

Haunted Balloon :
Slows falling speed while holding the jump key.
Useful for people who don’t like looking down before jumping.

Pixie Compass :
Adds a sparkle effect to the screen.
See Gleam Monocle

Sticky Tape :
Adds durability to used gear at the end of stage.
Worth holding onto nearly-expired Glass Bells and Witchery Potions in the hope that this turns up.
Very useful.

Infernal Thorn :
Gives immunity to explosions, causes you to explode when hurt.
This also protects you from exploding mushrooms and demonfire.
If you’re hurt while in a shop, the passive explosion can enrage the shopkeep.

Jellied Eel :
Gives a chance to replace enemy spawns from pots with hearts.
More useful in the final areas where enemies spawn more often.

Divine Trinket :
Allows you to survive at 1 heart instead of dying.
Kind of useful, but it’s not challenging to stockpile enough health that this doesn’t become a problem.

Loyalty Card :
The first item you buy in a shop will be free.
It’s useful in two cases; when you’re low on gold and can’t afford to buy out a shop, and when you’re going for a highscore and are conserving money to buy a shop out.
In both cases, killing the shopkeep is the correct move – this item really doesn’t do much.

Newton Sphere :
Reduces acceleration to gravity.
This also increases your jump height in addition to reducing initial falling speed.
Easily one of the best items in the game.

Voodoo Doll :
33% chance to double damage.
Super useful for killing bosses.
Also nice for Shinobi and Alchemistro – double damage from this puts a bunch of enemies in lethal range from one attack.

Items – Gear & Useables

Glass Bell :
Shatters all blocks with gems on the screen.
Useful for navigating the library, useful for securing highscores.

Binocularscope :
Allows you to look around the level freely.
Super useful on Cabin Adventures, otherwise doesn’t do much.

Bottled Fairy :
When used, spawns a fairy that will heal you for a random amount.
The fairy follows you when you’re moving, and Cutty Cutlery can double each healing instance.

Ossein Flute :
Moves you to a bonus level with one large chest before a portal that ends the stage.
The chest generally has an item or consumable, plus a significant amount of gold.
This can be used instantly from the inventory and functions as a solid “Get out of jail free” card.
This item does not work in alternate stages or the boss area.

Gift Surprise :
Contains a random item. Can be a passive item or a gear item.

Exotic Mushroom :
Makes you invincible after using it for a little while.

Worn Spade :
Digs a block directly below you.

Spookobomb :
Summons a fast-flying ghost that explodes when you hit the bomb button.
Difficult to control, but the explosion area is so large that it shouldn’t really matter.
Solid for assassinating shopkeeps.

Flesh Reflector :
Returns you to the top of the level.
Kind of useful for Minesmithers in case you get stuck.

Witchery Potion :
Has a handful of charges. When used, will give hearts, bombs, gold, or nothing.
Becomes much more useful with Greasy Wrench or Sticky Tape.

Choccy Bar :
Gives a speed boost, and some health.
Mostly just useful for the health.

Glint Firecrackers :
Stuns and damages enemies.

Notched Mattock :
Mines the block in front of you if there’s one. Otherwise, mines the block in front and below you.
Functions identically to Minesmither’s bombs. Solid item to have.

Rocketeer Pack :
Allows you to fly. Not super useful unless you’re Minesmither and bad at walljumping.
Notably, worth 50 at the trading shrine.

Somarios Staff :
Places a block below you.
If you place this on the ground, it will remove the block you’re standing on and replace it with the Somarios block. This can enrage shopkeeps.
Only one block can exist at a time. When placing a new block, the old one will explode into four bullets that can harm enemies.

Bernard’s Watch :
Slows down time. Slows you down too.
Not useful unless you’re on a boss and have the reaction time of a sloth.

Fresh Diaper :
One of the best items in the game.
It’s funny AND useful.
