How to hunt Roe deer (my experience)

Probably THE most abundant animal in the reserve, the Roes are the easiest game animal to hunt in Heirschfelden. The Roe deer have good senses however, so be stealthy.

You can find Roe deer pretty much anywhere on the map, so much so that you are pretty much guaranteed to see or hear at least one of them if you play.

I can confirm that they indeed are skittish, be sure not to make too much noise when hunting them. I need to test it, but I am inclined to believe hunting them from a stand or blind may be the most effective hunting method for Roe deer. Roe deer respond quite well to the Roe deer call, even more so if you get the “fatal attraction” skill. As for tactics, I’d say slow and steady wins the race.

The weapon I think is best for Roe deer is the .243 with soft point ammunition. Granted you can down them with ANY weapon in the game easily (besides the 300 grain arrows, .223, .22, and .357 jacketed ammo). The .243 soft-point does the most damage and can easily down roe deer if you land a lung shot. Due to its’ high damage compared to the 357 jacketed ammo and the .223, I personally think it is the best choice (especially since the .243 soft point ammo is free!). I have to test Roe deer hunting with other weapons, But I feel that this is the best caliber/ammo type to use. I will update this as I test more hunting methods. .223 is not a good caliber to use, it simply lacks the required penetration for it to be reliable in the field. .357 jacketed hollow point does good if you shoot it broadside in the lung, but ONLY IF you do just that (any off angle shot is almost guaranteed a flesh wound). However, if you use the flat-nosed hard cast ammo for the same firearm, you get extremely good penetration, enough to easily get multiple vital organs with one bullet. This ammunition however costs in-game cash and must be unlocked by painstakingly hunting with the aforementioned jacketed ammo. I still have yet to test arrows and bolts in an official “sit down and test it” play session, but I found out 420 grain arrows give full integrity, so forget about using the 300 grain arrows. 420 grain is a fantasic choice for roe deer hunting, especially if you like luring them in/waiting for them.
As for the .30-30 lever action rifle,… oh man. I take back what I said about the .243 This rifle is insanely good against the Roe deer and gives 100% integrity. So basically, the .243 soft point, the .30-30 and the 400 grain arrows are the best caliber/ammo choices for Roe deer.

Now get out there and hunt some Roes!
