Overview
This guide will help users bring more variety to the game with the 0-4-0 Dock shunter included with the Falmouth Branch DLC.
Falmouth Branch Dock Shunter
Within the Falmouth Branch DLC, there is an 0-4-0 Saddle Tank designed specifically for use in Falmouth Docks. The overall look of the saddle tank is designed to be generic to most people, however the saddle tank can be customised in game through the engine numbering system.
Within the game files of the Dock shunter, there are a series of primary number texture files (21 in total), all of which are nameplates that can be used on the Dock Shunter. Sadly, RSC (or DTG as they have been called for a few years) never stated any of this in the Falmouth Docks manual (Whether they forgot, or just didn’t bother to put it in, we’ll never know. It’s hard to explain DTG’s actions these days).

There are 21 names in total (2 of which are the same but different styles)

How to apply the nameplates
So, now that you are aware of the nameplates, you will now want to try and apply them. This section will show you how to apply any of these nameplates to your Saddle Tank (Please note, that this doesn’t work with any other saddle tanks so Invincible from the Isle of Wight DLC and the saddle tanks from the marketplace do not apply to this guide at all).
Now. after placing down the Falmouth Dock Shunter, double clicking on it will bring up the sidebar where the coal and water level is. Below them will be the number bar which, by default for the Dock Shunter is number from anyway between W37 to W46.
These numbers aren’t needed so just click on the numbers and remove them. Now, the Dock Shunter requires a specific number/letter to get the right nameplate to show up. The required number is 0 and the required letters range from A to T (PLEASE NOTE; The letter in the number box needs to be in Lower Case and not Upper Case). The number box should only contain either 0 or a letter, nothing else.
Please refer to the list below for the following numbers/letters:
(NOTE: The nameplates aren’t in alphabetical order name wise, only for the reference letter)
0 – FD&ECo No. 3 (Black and White version)
a – FD&ECo No. 3 (Normal version)
b – Mickran
c – Auckland
d – Little Fern
e – Beowulf
f – Elddis
g – Acorn
h – Rebdog
i – Jester
j – Terrence
k – Neurotic
l – Scarlet
m – Gillian
n – Selkirk
o – Lyphbahn
p – Americano
q – Storm
r – Woodcock
s – Pendennis
t – Bethan
The list only goes down to the letter T, if you try to add any more, it will require editing the engines geo, however this is where the next section comes into play.
Advice for reskinners
If the names included don’t tickle your pickle, then you may try reskinning the nameplates. Depending on your approach to this, you may want to take one of the following actions:
1. Make a backup folder.
If you intend to overwrite the existing textures used in the default folder, it would be wise to make an extra folder in there called ‘Original’ or something along those lines and copying those textures into that folder.
It may also help to make a second folder called ‘New nameplates’ as it helps to keep a copy of the edited nameplates in case anything bad happens, but this brings us onto my second point and this would also apply to anyone who would want to release any reskins of the nameplates.
2. Make an extra Saddle Tank folder
If you don’t want to risk losing the original nameplate textures, then you could make a copy of the dock shunter files and reskin the textures there. There are tutorials on how to reskin out there which show the process of creating a new engine so even if you aren’t going to create a fictional livery, the only thing you need to worry about is changing the name of the loco for use in game and the directory to link it up to that engine’s geo to make the nameplates work.
It also helps to make a notepad list of what nameplates you have reskinned and their corresponding letter/number, not just for personal use, but also if you do plan of releasing them as an additional nameplate pack.
Thank you
You’ve now reached the end of this guide. You’ve managed to get a nameplate on to the Falmouth Dock Shunter and I do hope that in turn this will help bring a lot more variety to users in the Train Sim community, especially to scenario makers who create steam era scenarios.
I have enjoyed making this guide in the last 2 days since I figured out how to add the nameplates and I hope it will help you in turn. I’m contemplating making further naming guides for other TS products, but it depends if there is a demand for more so any feedback is really appreciated.
