Overview
Positioning boat names in Sailaway 2 is tricky at the moment. Therefore this quick guide, which is based on offset information from the developer.
Naming Boats in Sailaway 2
In Sailaway 2, boat names can be placed freely along the hull. The problem is, they also have to be placed with the proper offsets, to show up at all. To place the name, some sliders in the boat customisation dialog need to be dragged and released in small steps, until the name becomes visible at the hull. The image below is taken from the german version of Sailaway. Therefore I provide the german names of the controls alongside the english ones in the text below.
In the dialog, first set the name (“Bootsname”) of your boat, choose a font (“Schrift”), color and level of opacity (“Undurchsichtigkeit”).
Now you are ready to apply the offsets. By dragging and releasing the sliders for X-Offset and Y-Offset (“X-Versatz” and “Y-Versatz”), the boat name is shifted horizontally or vertically, respectively. Scaling is possible through the next two sliders (“X-Skalierung”, “Y-Skalierung”). Shear is provided through the next two sliders (“X-Verjuengung”, “Y-Verjuengung”) and last -not least the name can be rotated (“Rotation”).
The table below provides good values for offset, scaling and rotation for the different boat types.
The values are based on information from the developer himself. The developer also states (as of Nov, 9th, 2019) that the name placement procedure will be improved through a patch in near future, which will make this guide obsolete.
