This guide will explain how to unlock the various secret characters available in the game. As new content gets released, this guide will be updated with new secret characters.
Introduction
Welcome to Secret Pilots And How To Unlock Them – a guide on how to unlock the various secret pilots available in Shooty Skies. Data will be a combination of my own experiences, information from Mighty Games and information from Youtube. If you have any new information to share on unlocking of specific characters (or if I’ve made a mistake somewhere), feel free to comment and let me know.
This guide will be structured according to which mobile version update (Blooper Heroes, Rainbow Riders, etc) the secret characters got released in. If there are any errors in categorisation, feel free to comment and let me know so that I can fix it.

Important Notes
Various secret character unlocks require that you encounter a specific boss. For these unlocks, I’ll note the boss’s name (where known) as well as the warning text that accompanies its arrival (“Big bad boss blowing in” for Big Bad Wolf, “Probe warming up” for Alien Commander, etc). The warning text will be in italics when referenced.
Bonus tip: If you die while facing off against a boss and have a continue up your sleeve, using that continue will make you invincible for a bit. You can use this invincibility to kill the boss and fulfill the unlock condition.
Please note that if you have the gold version of a particular character (earned through the gold ticket prize machine), you won’t be able to unlock any secret characters with it.
It is possible to complete multiple unlock requirements in the same round. However, you will only get one unlock at a time and the rest will go into a queue that will advance with your next game.
Where an unlock requires that you get a great score, beating your previous high score also counts.
Sometimes there will be an unavoidable delay in adding new content due to other commitments I have going on. In such cases, keep an eye on my Twitter account for unlock info which will be added to this guide as soon as I am able to do so.

How to unlock:Get a great score with specific characters.

Bonus: Unlocking Drama Llama will also award the “More drama with Hooty and the Blobfish” achievement.
Tip: If you’re having trouble getting close to your high score, you can dial down the difficulty in Settings to make it easier.
How to unlock: Score a lot of points (600+) while only using your primary gun attack (keep the mouse button held down) in the Old West theme. This is cumulative over multiple runs.

How to unlock: Charge your special attack until you die.

Halloween 2015
How to unlock: Play a round with each of the characters released in the Halloween 2015 update.

How to unlock: Get killed by Killer Zombie (It’s shambling this way!).

Thanksgiving/Black Friday
How to unlock: Defeat shopping cart enemies.
Specific character(s) required: Rowdy Cat
Trivia: “Rowdy” Roddy Piper starred in the movie “They Live” and Roddy Cat’s game world is similar to what is seen when the special sunglasses from that movie are worn.
How to unlock: Collect 500 coins (cumulative over multiple runs).

Winter Christmasland
How to unlock: Collect the day 12 daily reward.

Trivia: The unlock method is a reference to the popular Christmas carol “The 12 Days Of Christmas”.
How to unlock: Shoot down the wooden crates and collect the robot parts contained within.

How to unlock: Defeat every Christmas themed enemy in the Winter Christmasland world including Evil Elf (That eggnog isn’t right.) and his minions (there are two different types – one that shoots white bullets and one that shoots homing green bullets). This is cumulative over multiple runs.

Chinese New Year 2016
How to unlock: Shoot down the wooden crates and collect the red envelopes contained within.

How to unlock: Explode 2 black bomb enemies (watch out for the death blasts as they will kill you if you’re in their path).

How to unlock: Have the “Charming Wand” weapon power-up equipped (costs 1100 coins for 2 hours of being equipped right off the bat) and defeat the barbarian enemy (they throw axes at you) in such a way so that the wand’s bullet deals the finishing blow (you’ll know you have succeeded when the enemy transforms and bounces away instead of exploding).
