Intro

Quick Rant:

TL:DR
I’m gunna shorten the rant, because honestly even i now hate it being as long as it was
so basically:
-at least 2 “gaming” blogs (that i know of) and several either steam guides straight up stole the screenshots that i took and edited for this guide, or used their own screenshots which were ever so slightly different with the same editing style that i used. Another blog took a screenshot of one of my doom videos. (i know it was mine because i could clearly see my watermark from youtube in the corner)
-didn’t give credit or say thank you for using my screenshots etc etc
-i left comments on both the blogs, which got removed/hidden. one of them gave me credit with a teeny tiny link in the bottom corner that you’d probably miss. the blog who had a cap of my video simply changed it for a cap of someone else’s video, hopefully their own, rather than give credit or admit their mistakes.

If you happen to want to know more details about it then here’s a link to the original section[pastebin.com] that i had written here about it all.
My heart goes out to everybody who’s put in time and effort into steam guides or youtube videos, only to have them taken away and copied.

ANYWAY

So for all you nostalgia-ridden players, ID have been wonderful and added the ability to play some of the classic levels of Doom 1 and Doom 2. But these are only unlocked once you’ve found a part of a particular level, hidden throughout the main campaign itself. Once you’ve found at least one of them, you’ll get this option in the menu.

In each level, there is a hidden lever which doesn’t glow and so can be hard to find. Pulling it results in a guitar riff from the original E1M1 theme to played which lets you know that you’ve opened the door somewhere to reveal the hidden classic map.

This guide is sorted in the same order of the levels you play through so that you can get them all in one swoop. To get to some of the levers though, you may have to actually progress in a level and then backtrack a bit.

Not all the hidden doors are in direct sight of the lever, some will be well hidden in a nearby yet different location to the lever. Use your map and ears to hear the door opening.

A big “thank you!” to anybody who’s helped in any way, and ♥♥♥♥ you to those of you who are rude as ♥♥♥♥ for no good reason, The guide is now essentially finished with at least some better than average description about how to go about finding each secret classic level.

If you still find anything in terms of easter eggs that aren’t listen in this guide’s bonus section, then feel free to tell me about it and i’ll get it added whenever i get the chance because lazy tired etc

The UAC

The first is relatively close to the start of the level. After grabbing the blue keycard, going through the the blue-locked door, you’ll drop down and the path will ssplit into 2. On the right it’l go up into the hillside, but you need to stick left and follow that path going down. Evventually you’ll come to a gap that you’ll need to jump across, instead of going across it, just jump down, the lever and secret area are both down there. It can be found here on the map:

The lever is just behind some metal bars, there’s a hole you can use to get in literally right next to it though just off screen to the right in this picture (I went back and took a better screenshot so you can see the hole/door):

Ta Da, the quest for the classics begins here.

Resource Operations

You need to be doing a bit of parkour to get to this one.

After restoring power at the beginning of the level and dropping down through that vehicle hole, you’ll notice some construction platforms. Make your way to the top to find the Lever. You’ll be able to see the door open just below you through the grated floor.

Located here on the map:

Foundry

You’ll come to an area where you’ll see this huge bridge that’s pretty hard to miss, especially since you have to cross it. But at about the middle of the bridge is a raised platform with some boxes, so just hop the bridge railings and pull the lever. You should be able to see the door open in the distance if you’re quick enough.

Like i said, it’s a bit hard to miss the bridge, the lever however…

Argent Facility

Relatively near the start of the level you’ll be at a part that looks like it’s from Warframe. The lever is stuffed behind some barrels in the corner

Since this is the first lever which isn’t in sight of the door, The map shows the players location at the lever, and the mouse pointer is placed where the door is. After you’ve pulled the lever, simply follow the path through the next incredibly gore filled room to find the door.

Argent Energy Tower

During the tower climb section, there is a part where you ride a hovering box delivery vehicle up the tower after activating them at a control panel. It’s easy to miss if you’re not keeping an eye out, but at the top of the vehicles lift when you jump off, there is a platform with the lever tucked slightly into the wall.

The player can be seen at the lever, the mouse is pointing at where the hidden room is.

The secret door, is then back down the hover lift.

Kadingir Sanctum

The lever is hidden in the pitch black at the back of the cave next to the dead Dovahkiin (There’s a screenshot of him at the very bottom of the guide if you’re interested).

The secret area is just below the cave after backtracking a teeny bit into the arena area that’s been split in two by a door.

It’s just to the left of that door.

Argent Facilty (Destroyed)

At the very beginning of the level you’ll leave the starting room and will have to do some parkour going up. You’ll quickly come to this part:

The lever is just behind the box and the door is at the platform just below it.

If necessary, here’s the map view for you

Advanced Research Complex

After finally meeting with Sam the 200ft giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ robot, you’ll come to this part here where the door isn’t exactly hidden.:

Which is here on the map:

The hidden part is indeed the lever and to get to it you’ll have to proceed a little bit further until you get to another parkour section, this is where you’ll find the lever, just before going through the farting air-valve:

Then yes, you will have to do some backtracking to get to the newly opened door.

Lazarus Labs

Quite some length into the level, you’ll come across a sacrificial chamber of sorts.

Venturing through it will bring you to a circular room with a hole in the middle. The lever is just below the door to your right as you enter the room:

The door to the classic level, is then below you in the hole. Just jump down.

Titan’s Realm

Thanks to _Riot for helping with this one

Okay so this one has an extra step kinda.
You’re gunna want to get to the room just after opening the yellow skull key door. Here you can see the Doomguy is stood where the lever is, and the mouse is pointing back where the classic level is.

Specifically the lever is here behind this wall of rocks

To open the wall you wanna clear the room of demons then proceed up to where the arrow is pointing and press the skull switch. This will open the next area and also remove the rocks at the lever.

Now all that’s left is to backtrack into the poison pit room and the classic level is down the stairs to the right.

The Necropolis

Ok so pretty much near the beginning of this level, you’re gunna enter an arena room where you’ll be rewarded with a yellow key.

Here on the map, Doomguy is stood at the lever, whilst the mouse is pointing back to where the classic level door is.

Like i said, after clearing the arena, at the opposite of the room from the yellow key, in the corner is the lever.

Pulling the lever will also re-open the door you used to get into that arena. You’re now able to backtrack a little to find the classic level.

Vega Central Processing

Continue through the level until you get to the point where you acquire the the blue keycard.
You can use this keycard to open the secret room where the level map and Elite Guard’s body are.

Then just behind the Elite Guards body and some boxes, you’ll find the lever.

Backtrack down the path to where you picked up the blue Keycard, and keep going down that long blue-lighted hallway, you’ll find the secret level there.

Argent D’Nur

This one’s in a locked off area that you can only get to after using a skull switch.
All of this takes place a fair bit into the level, literally just after you’ve laid the first wraith soul to rest
Which is here on the map. Doomguy is stood directly at the top where the altar is and he’s looking in the exact direction of the secret path to find the room.

On your way up/down to the first wraith soul, you’ll find this skull switch off to the side of the stairs

It’ll then open the door seen here to the right with the glowing skulls

Follow the path through there until you come to this corner, where you’ll find blood leading to the lever

And it’s placed directly next to the secret room

BONUS SECRETS & EASTER EGGS

Because why not? You’re here now so you might as well learn something

  1. Firstly, I just want to say that I will not be covering audio related secrets/easter eggs. They’re too obvious and if you just listen carefully then anyone with a nostalgia boner can recognise that the ambient music for each level does indeed include riffs either directly from or inspired by the original Doom games. There are many others such as the door opening sound, but that’s all I’m going to mention about audio easter eggs. If you’re the kind of person who plays games without using your ears, then shame on you.
  2. Secondly, this is not a list of each and secret you see at the level select screen, instead this is merely a list of the bigger important ones that contain references etc.

Now lets begin…

At the very beginning of the game during the prologue where Doomguy begins to wake and leave the “vault” he’s been kept in, well guess who made the vault? Nope, not Mixom Manufacturing like everywhere else on the space station, but in fact it was… yup, no wonder he broke free so easily!

Credits to

for finding this one. It was first thought that this was a Reference to the actor Sean Bean, and how he dies in a majority of the films he’s in, but as it turns out, these are the names of the developers!. Also subtle xXxMLG1337xXx

Terminator Reference: I didn’t find this during my first playthrough because I’m not stupid enough to jump into lava, but if you do…

Deep in the Lazarus Labs level, some say there is a PC capable of playing a Doom styled version of the bejeweled game… Other’s say they’ve never pressed F on everything when exploring a room. This secret is also one of the challenges of that same level so i’m going to hide it as a spoiler in case you want to find that challenge yourself. Move your mouse over each step to reveal the text and it’s guide picture

As you go into the room to deactivate the force field around the Helix Stone, Located here on the map:

Go ahead and press your USE button on this PC here:

Bam, Lets play some Doom Styled Bejeweled

The Tenacious D reference is actually amusing to me

Good to know that the soul cube still exists in this universe

also in the Lazarus Labs is something too spooky for this world. There’s just something about some spooky scary skeletons that always gets me shaking.Did you see it?

Ok so you know the new starting pistol we get? I might be wrong on this, in fact i probably am, but it looks pretty similar to the Dominator pistol from the anime Psycho Pass. It might not be a direct reference, but it might’ve been a design inspiration sort of thing?

Also i might be wrong here, my Chinese is pretty limited, but on the side of your trusted pistol, it says “No Knife”. This would make sense given the nature of Doomguy’s rip and tear policy

What makes this Doom figure different than the rest and worth fist bumping? It’s the 2016 Doomguy that’s why. Shame he doesn’t do it to the original Doomguy figure though…

Commander Keen

Does Dopefish sound familiar to you? Well he’s an enemy from the Commander Keen series, and he’s back in Doom, as a company that make noodles.
He also appears inside a few opened lockers here and there
As it turns out, you might also be drinking his piss…

#NostalgiaBoner
They gave us back the hell doors!

#BiggerNostalgiaBoner
The Necropolis & Doom 2-Map07

#BiggestNostalgiaBoner
Once you unlock a classic Doom level, and you go to play it fully through the menu options, If you then die from being gibbed and exploded into a huge mess, well guess who makes a beautiful re-appearance

This can be found inside Samuel’s Office as well as a few other places i believe

Ok, after many people asking, I’m finally getting around to adding this one…
And so, back by ever popular demand… Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3!

As it turns out, there’s even a snapmap guide in the game for Doomguy himself to make his own levels to slaughter through

Upon shooting/popping this balloon, some of you will hear children booing, others will hear them saying “yaaaay!”. I personally had the yaying response, and i have no idea what triggers either one or what the criteria is for it.

Icon of Sin Also feel free to subscribe to me eheh.
Also, in the comments section, there’s a nice discussion emerging about the origins of the doomguy in this current reboot since obviously he’s more than just a normal space marine in this game. come join in and have a say?

Quake logo
This logo for another of my favourite game series pops up in mny places throughout this game, but my favourite is in the Icon of Sin’s head

The Dovahkiin

Baron’s of Hell get lonely too…
