Formula Truck 2013 Guide

Setting In Game Steering Rotation and Steering Lock for Formula Truck 2013

Setting In Game Steering Rotation and Steering Lock

Overview

Chances are if you have a a steering wheel the game doesn’t look like it matches your inputs. This guide will help you set Formula Truck up to properly utilize a 900 degree of rotation steering wheel.

How to fix your steering.

This guide will help guide you through setting up your steering wheel rotation so you get a proper sensitivity as well as having your inputs match what the visual steering wheel in game outputs.

This same tweak can be applied to many other sims based on this engine, such as rFactor. If you are playing one of those games and you see the same thing, chances are this will apply as well so take a peek.

First of all – the steering wheel in game is visual only. If you want to turn it off you can skip these steps. In that case, skip to Step 5.

Step 1:
Launch the game and create your driver profile. Set up all your settings and everything you need, might as well do it now though you do not have to. When you are done with setting up things, exit the game.

Step 2:
Navigate to Formula Truck’s install directory.

Easiest way to do this is simply right click on the title in your game library, switch to the local files dab and click “Browse Local Files”. Open up the “UserData” folder, and then open up the folder named after the profile name you used in game.

Open up the file controller.ini in notepad.

Step 3:
Search for this line :
[/b]Steering Wheel Range[/b]
By default it will say ‘Steering Wheel Range=”270“‘

This value controls how far the visual steering wheel in game rotates, in degrees. Change that value (270 by default) to match what degree of rotation you wish to use with your game controller steering wheel. If your wheel supports it, I would suggest 900 degrees. Save the file, exit out.

Step 4:
Start the game.
Start a race.

Step 5:
Open up the garage with the GARAGE1 button at the top of the page. Change the Steering Lock value. It’s in the middle of the page, between the gearing and weight distribution settings.

For 900 degree wheel users, go ahead and just crank it up to the maximum value. For 540 degree users, try starting out around 20 degrees. If you run in between those settings, set it in between.

Step 6:
Do some laps, rip some huge drifts, set a new PB or two, do some stunning truck control and all that awesome stuff, enjoy the physics.

If desired, change the steering lock in the garage again. More lock will make the steering more sensitive, less lock will make it less sensitive.

Step 7:
Once you are happy, I’d suggest saving that setup, then “favoriting” it to make it the “new” default. This makes it so you don’t need to change it every time you load up a race, though it’s entirely optional. I’d either do that or just remember what steering lock you like.

Hopefully this guide has helped you to enjoy this awesome sim a bit more. I’ve seen this question about a million times, figure a guide would be easier than explaining it all the time!
