SFM/GMOD TF2 Guide:: How-to get the Tough Break Update in your apps [EASY]

Overview

This guide will point you in the right direction of how to get theTough Break stuff from TF2 into SFM mainly. This will cover how to extract it and how to find it by a search string. On a side note, the items can be found in GMOD as well. There will be small flaws but can easily be fixed. ^^ If for GMOD & SFM. See notes in following sections for more information. Why is there no workshop upload? All the items come from the vpks. Step 1:: How do I get the Tough Break update in SFM?

What you need::

  • The Game of TF2 obviously
  • A copy of SFM
  • GCFScape

Extract the files [models, materials, sounds] from the TF2 gcf (aka vpk files) found in the TF2 folder.
Place the folders inside of your usermod or tf or tf_movies folder. Your choice.

* Do this above or the following steps below will fail…

Step 2:: Where are the files in SFM?

Below is a list of items in tables to make it easier to finding a specific item.

Problem:: Why is my item transparent?

Go to the .vmt of the model.
Open the .vmt and add this -> “$ambientocclusion” “0”
Save it.
Go in SFM and go to console and type ” reloadallmaterials “
Move the Timescale a bit to left to right and it should be a solid model.

Problem:: Map entities and light issues?

  • pl_snowycoast.bsp
    GMOD:: Works. 100%.
    SFM:: Does not load. Do not try.

  • cp_vanguard.bsp
    GMOD:: Works. Missing entities and particles. 99%.
    SFM:: Does not load. Do not try.

  • koth_highpass.bsp
    GMOD:: Works. 100%.
    SFM:: Does not work. Do not try.

  • ctf_landfall.bsp
    GMOD:: Works. Missing entities and particles. 99%.
    SFM:: Does not work. Do not try.

SFM Maps DO NOT WORK!! The maps need to be recompiled.

Question:: Is there a GMOD port of this?

Where is the models, props, particles and such in GMOD?

Inside of GMOD. Just make sure that TF2 is mapped. The items will be in the model spawn list.

Does the maps work in GMOD?

The following have been tested:: Use at your own risk.

Works but with minor flaws
  • pl_snowycoast.bsp – 100% – works in GMOD only.
  • cp_vanguard.bsp – 99% – works in GMOD only. – Missing some map entities.
  • koth_highpass.bsp – 100% – Works in GMOD only.
  • ctf_landfall.bsp – 99% – works in GMOD only. – Missing some map entities.

Does not work at all
  • pl_snowcoast.bsp
  • cp_vanguard.bsp
  • koth_highpass.bsp
  • ctf_landfall.bsp

The above 4 maps will not show in SFM. It won’t crash the app but the maps do need to be recompiled.
