Overview
This is the new and improved version of my old guide “SHELTER: BASICS” that I made about 2 years ago! This guide includes:*movement*caring for cubs *Feeding cubs *hunting *Tips and tricks *dealing with wolves*hunting deer *THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE SHELTER 2: MOUNTAINS. I’m in the middle of making a whole new guide for it. As soon as I finish it I will post a link to that guide here*
moving basics
MOVING BASICS
hello and welcome to the first chapter in my guide! In this chapter we will be learning movement basics! to start, this is also covered in the tutorial, so this will short! Use the wasd keys to move, or arrow keys, move your mouse left and right to look around, this will help you tremendously. SHIFT to run and make sure to hit SPACE bar in between running for a long jump to quicken pace. If there are no cubs (we’ll come to this stuff later) or game anywhere, click left mouse, you will meow!
meanings
- game: prey (rabbits, frogs etc)
- wasd: really just pronounced a the w a s and d keys, they are on your keyboard.
cubs!
cubs!
As this game is shelter there has to be cubs right? Well, as you make your way to your new den think about names for your new cubs. when you reach this spot the game will load, returning to the game after the loading screen, you will see a pair a yellow eyes, 4 more pairs of eyes will appear one by one. the light will brighten and you will see your cubs!
Name them carefully and try to remember their names too! (NOTE: you cannot change your FIRST mothers name) choose names wisely, as one of the surviving cubs will be having cubs of their own! after you have chosen names hit the continue button and all your cubs names will be saved.
Just remember that one name is only allowed to be up to six charactors long, so if the name you want to use is longer than that, maybe think of a NICKNAME or a SHORT ABBREVIATION of that name
Hunting
HUNTING
I do not want to spoil the game for you, so, im just sorta gonna explain how to hunt, how the map
works etc.
Hunting in the game has to be something you’re good at or your cubs will die.
So, lets start by telling you how to hunt the mere bunny/hare. First, locate your prey. (right mouse click will go to heat signiture cam) use your mouse to rotate around Inna, until you see a red figure, this could be a bunny! walk over to it until Inna shrinks down into a stalking position, stay still, watch your prey, home in a little, and now quickly hold in the shift key and stay focused on your prey, the worst thing you want to do is get distracted by other things going on around you!
Chase your prey until you hear a noise of clasping teeth and you have a bunny in your mouth, now, return to your cubs with your prize!
*Hunting deer isnt much different but is sometimes more difficult, so it has a chapter of its own.*
Growing up. *The walking stage*
Growing up stage 1
After hunting three rabbits your cubs will come out of the den, now you can explore the world of shelter two!
There is a few differences in hunting now…do the exact thing I said in the hunting chapter, except, when you catch a bunny etc stand still, wait for your cubs to form a circle around you and left click to drop your prey, two lucky cubs will eat the food.
Make sure you always have all 4 cubs and make sure each and every one is fed evenly, at any second a famished cub will collapse!
The final stage
The final stage
Continue to feed and explore with your cubs until the eventually grow up and become adolescents
When they do, you will have a short time to continue taking care of them and exploring with them until it is time for them to leave you and begin to be more independent.
*Don’t worry though, you will still have a chance to see them again :)*
More cubs!
More cubs!
If you want to have more cubs and play again, all you have to do is go to the family tree section of the main menu, and go to your current adolescent cubs, when you hover over their names, the pelt colour will appear, choose the cub you like the most to be the next parent to your new generation of cubs!
Any of the four will do, or less if one or two of your cubs didn’t make it, and if you only have one cub remaining, you will have to use that one as the next parent to your cubs.
Hunting deer.
Hunting Deer
Hunting rabbits and things of that nature will only allow you to feed one to three cubs at once (the prey that will allow you to feed 3 cubs is the pheasent.) But if you’re looking to feed all of your cubs in one go, then hunting deer would be the best way forward.
Hunting deer comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages
- Being able to feed all 4 cubs at once
- They are big and quite easy to find
- Killing them is not too difficult
- They flock in herds, so you have a lot of deer to choose from
Disadvantages
- You will have to leave the main area where your den is
- The only places where deer spawn is near WOLF DENS
- Chances of your cubs dieing is higher due to these wolves
wolves
Wolves
Wolves are sometimes tricky to deal with, but luckily it is very easy to figure out when they are about to attack you.
Their distinctive howl gives them away very quickly and the first thing you should do is find one of the many hill/ledges in the biome. They should be easy to find as a symbol at the top left of the screen should pop up, allowing you to jump onto the ledge.
BE CAREFUL, even though your cubs will jump up behind you, (child or adolescent) make sure they are all there AND that you know where they are at all times, even if there is no wolf attack.
