Prey and Food
Prey and their information
– Mole
Found mostly in Mountains and the Lake area [Three trees]. They spawn from burrows in the ground. If chased they will attempt to retreat to the burrow(This sometimes results in them running into your mouth). Useful for feeding singular cubs at a time or saving a starving cub. Feeds 1 cub. Can be killed by older cubs.
– Frog
Found mostly in Mountains, the Lake area [Three trees] and swamps. Spawns near lakes and in swamps. If chased they will attempt to retreat to water. Useful for feeding singular cubs at a time or saving a starving cub. Difficult to see in scent view. Feeds 1 cub. Can be killed by older cubs.
– Rabbit
Found mostly in Mountains and Den area. Spawns near grass patches and in fluffles/colonies of other rabbits. If chased, they will run away in a zig-zag pattern, turning left or right when approaching a dead end, such as a rock. It’s highly recommended to drop a dead rabbit in the sets of kits to avoid starving kits. Sets: Kir (orange) and Vavi (dark grey). Solda (Gray heather) and Bova (white). Explanation: If dropped inbetween Vavi and Solda it would take 2 seperate animals to feed Bova and Kir afterwards. Feeds 2 cubs. Can be killed by older cubs.
– Pheasant
Found mostly in Mountains and Lake area [Three trees]. Spawns in/near forests. If chased, they will begin to run away. After 4-7 seconds of running, they will begin to flap their wings which lasts about 3-6 seconds, and then take off to the skies. You can catch them on land or in the sky by pouncing on them. Feeds 3 cubs. Can be killed by older cubs.
-Eggs
Found mostly in Mountains and Lake area [Three trees]. Spawns on the floor in swamps and small trees with orange foliage. When approaching one of these said trees, an icon should show up and you should be able to click to shake the tree, causing a nest of eggs to fall. An Owl howling is an indication of an egg tree. Feeds 4 cubs, but not amazingly well.
-Deer
Found mostly in the Tundra [Snowflake]. Cannot spawn in Den area. Spawns in herds of 3-4, 4-5 and 4-6 deer. When chased the deer(s) will run away. They are initially faster than Mother Lynx but will slow down after a few seconds. Chase them and jump on them to kill them.
Feeds 4 cubs. Cannot be killed by older cubs.
Biomes and their Threats
Biomes And their Threats
– Den area –
The main area of the game. It is the center of the map, and is connected to every other area.
Prey and Threats are balanced.
Threats that appear here; The Blob/Lonesome Fog, Forest Fire, Eagle, Fox.
– Lake area – [Three trees]
This area consists mainly of forests and lakes, and is a large area within the game. The lakes will freeze up in winter and can be travelled across.
Has many areas that trigger threats and is slightly more dangerous than the Den area. Contains a lot of Prey.
Threats that appear here; The Blob/Lonesome fog, Forest fire, Eagle, Fox, Grizzly Bear.
– Tundra – [Snowflake]
This area is extremely risky and dangerous, especially when survival mode is enabled, because of the scarce amount of prey and high risk of wolves.
Not much Prey and high risk of threats. The reason fro this biome is purely because of the higher amount of deer.
Threats that appear here; Wolves, Polar bear, Arctic Fox/Fox.
– Mountains area (Mountains DLC biome/area) –
This area is packed with food as much as it is packed with predators. There are many areas here which are super safe, and just as many are the complete opposite.
Much Prey and many threats.
Threats that appear here; Forest fire, Eagle, Fox, Grizzly Bear.
Threats, their functions, triggers and how to avoid them
Threats:
– Wolves
Appears in the Tundra. The sky will go dark and you will hear howling. All prey will flee. You will have about 10-15 seconds to jump up on of of the many platforms after the howl is completely finished (an icon will show up where you can jump) before a pack of wolves appear. They will bark at you for about 1 minute before leaving (and you can actually run with the pack once they retreat) If they catch you or a cub they will leave and take 1 cub.
– Starvation
Can happen anywhere. Cubs will drop to the ground and meow in distress. Do not panic; get something they can eat and drop it near them, they will be healed. If the cubs are still young, you can left click to pick up the cub and move them while you search for prey. The key to avoiding this is to just not panic; you have a few minutes time to find food. Watch out for symptoms of your cubs starving; -Their fur coats will fade in colour and become more grey. -They will shrink in size. -They will whimper.
– The Blob/Lonesome fog
Appears in Den area and Three trees area. All prey will flee. The sky will darken followed by haunting ambience and a grey/brownish coloured blob flood-like mass will approach you from every surrounding forest. As it approaches the mass will become bigger. Cubs may drop to the ground and whimper as they would if they were starving, but they are just paralyzed. There are two ways to avoid this:
1) The Lonesome Fog moves extremely slow. if you are in the Den area you can easily walk away from the Fog towards the Den. The Den is the center of the map and its impossible for the Lonesome Fog to make it that far. Its also so slow that you don’t have to run towards the Den, calmly walk to it. If a cub is paralyzed, pick them up and go. (recommended if cubs are young)
2) Stand still and do nothing. as long as your cubs are in sight nothing will happen. Left click to call your cubs towards you. Once the Fog touches you, your sight will become limited, however as long as your cubs are still in sight in the ring of sight, it will be fine. (recommended if cubs are grown)
This cannot happen in winter. Takes 1 cub (the fog disappears after one cub is taken)
– Polar Bear
Appears in the Tundra near the sabertooth den. It’s basically the bear but bigger. Just stay away from it, but if you happen to get too close, jump up on a ledge/platform. When approached a chase theme will play. Kills 1 cub.
– Lightning
Appears when raining or when a forest fire is triggered. There isn’t really much you can do when this happens aside from sheltering which you don’t do much in the game? This has never happened to me but some people have mentioned that it’s happened to them. It apparently kills 1 cub.
– Lake
what.
Don’t run into the lake and drown? I’ve done this a few times and never lost a cub but some other people say they have- So stay on the safe side and just drink it like a normal person.
– Eagle
Appears in Den area, Mountains and Lake area. You will hear an eagle squawk followed by tense music. The eagle will take about 10-20 seconds until it swoops down and swipes up one of your cubs. It will have some trouble with the weight at first and fly low to the ground for about 7 seconds, so just run and pounce on it to kill it. Afterwards you can eat it; It feeds 4 cubs. Kills 1 cub.
-Fox
Appears in Den area, Mountains, Tundra(Arctic Fox) and Lake area. Audio queues are extremely important when it comes to foxes. An indication of a fox is sounds of branches breaking with some weird grass sounds. Foxes will stalk you until they can steal a cub, which is why “leaving it alone” is a bad idea. If chased around 3 times, it should go away, make sure you listen for further branch breaking though. Another way is to kill it; The fox is faster than you but will slow down with time. They will also sometimes run straight towards you in an attempt to snatch a cub. You can also chase and kill one if they have snatched a cub, much like the eagle, freeing the cub. Make sure you deal with foxes before hunting any rabbits if they appear. Kills 1 cub.
-Bear
Appears in the Mountains and forests in the Lake area. They do not spawn in winter. A chase theme will play upon approaching them, however they aren’t easily provoked. You can get quite close without them chasing you. If they do however chase you, either run or jump up onto a platform. Bears cannot be killed (One hit kill upon impact and will take a cub regardless of age).
-Forest fire
Appears in Den area, Lake area and Mountains. The sky will grow dark and Lightning will strike, causing a fire. The fire lasts about 30-55 seconds long and will spread over time until rain puts it out. You can run from the fire or jump up on a ledge/platform to avoid it. This does not occur in winter, and is most likely to occur during summer and autumn. Takes 1 cub.
Collectibles
Secrets: (Secret Achivements)
– Sabertooth cat
Head to the tundra from the Den area, and when you enter run left, you shall find a cave. The screen will go dark, eerie music will play and there will be bones on the ground. In the middle of the bones there is a Sabertooth cat skull. (Below there is a story explaining this)
– Mammoth tusk
(winter only): Go to the river on the in the tundra and follow it south. There will be a small lake with a mammoth and a section of it’s tusk will be on the frozen lake.
-Fox skull: Head up to the North-East section of the Den area map, where there are piles of rocks, in there you can find a fox skull. (I guess this is a special fox skull coz when you kill foxes you get the skulls anyway)
– Blue Feather
In the Den area, as you come out from the den go left. Look for a fallen tree and there is a ring of dirt near it, and the feather is in the middle of it.
– Pink feather
Go to the Lake area from the den area, and go to the swamp. Go to the forest and search for a path near the shore behind a line of rocks, You should see two fallen trees, and follow the path to a cave. In the cave is the pink feather.
– Pink flower
In the Den area go to the south-east, and at the far left of the forest there will be a steep ramp-like path. Head on up there, and jump up the ledges. After jumping up these, you should see a tree. under the tree is the pink flower.
– Rose (winter only)
In the Lake Area, When Winter arrives, walk on the frozen lake, and look for an island that has an weird water effect around it (the water will be appearing and disappearing) Here, on this island, you should find the rose.
Tips and Tricks
– If you are a beginner I do not recommend you go to the Tundra [Snowflake]. It’s too dangerous and likely you will lose a cub.
– Don’t constantly run. Not only will you scare prey and use up all your stamina, but you will also extinguish the stamina of your cubs. If a danger is around you will be far from your cubs. Only run when its necessary.
– Signs of a threat around; Mother Lynx hissing, Dark sky (do not mistake for shadows caused by the clouds) cubs cry and whimper, Prey flees, Music stops in the middle of the track instead of when its supposed to end-
– Drinking water can sometimes help fallen cubs.
– Listen for audio queues – They are hugely important within the game and signal almost everything.
– Use your scent view. It doesn’t only show prey- It shows carcasses, threats and where cubs may be laying down.
Game Lore
It’s theorized that this story is some Lore for the original Mother Lynx in the game, Inna.
The Sabertooth cat skull within the tundra is the skull of an apex predator from a long time ago; Its thought that this Sabertooth cat used to roam the lands of the Tundra, scaring all animals alike. Wolves, foxes and bears. Everything was scared of the Sabertooth. It even hunted down mammoths, it was that strong. (Mammoth tusk on iceberg in tundra)
It would always return to its den after hunting; however one day the cat vanished and never came back.
The Sabertooth cat is an ancestor of Inna.
No one knows exactly what happened to it, however there is a polar bear that camps outside the Sabertooth cave. I would assume that the bear is not strong enough to take down the Sabertooth, but you can interpret it however you like. 🙂
Thank you
Thanks for reading!
I hope this helps you raise all your cubs successfully. I love this game so much – It’s one of my favorite games. -I will update this guide with more screenshots soon-
Have a lovely day.
