Overview
This is a guide to the various ships of X2: The Threat. It is intended to help people pick the right ship for whatever they need done. Anybody who still plays X2 probably already knows this stuff, but any late-coming newbies will benefit from reading this. It also makes a handy reference. This guide is currently a work in progress, I will add images and more ships, such as the evil purple ships, later. Please keep in mind that this guide is intended for use with version 1.5, and as such I cannot guarantee it will remain accurate for other versions of the game.I have split the guide into two parts due to character and image limits on Steam community guides. This part, the second one, contains my thoughts on the M6s, TLs, M2s, and M1s of X2: The Threat.
More Guides to X2: The Threat
I am planning to write some other guides on X2: The Threat, pertaining to weapons and equipment and such. I will link to them here.

M6 Class Ships (Part 1)
These ships are the middle ground between capital ships like M1s and M2s, and fighters like M3s and M4s. They are capable of taking on anything the game can throw at them, and make excellent personal ships. They are too large to dock at most stations, but to make up for this all M6 class ships have a hangar capable of holding a single M5.
Here are some uses for M6s:
- Personal ship. (I prefer the Teladi Osprey, but many people like the Split Dragon as well.)
- As patrol ships to protect your interests. (I recommend the Teladi Osprey thanks to it’s durability and heavy weaponry.)
- As escorts in a personal fleet. (Again, the Teladi Osprey is most suitable for this.)
- Keeping the evil purple aliens away. (The Teladi Osprey is the best choice for this since it is pretty much guaranteed to survive the experience.)
But which one is the best?:
The Teladi Osprey. Super tough, lots of firepower, and a big cargo hold. It’s a little slow, but it’s still faster than an Argon Nova.
The Argon Centaur:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 90.09 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 207.20 m/s
Acceleration: 12 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 5.24%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 10.49%
Power Generator: 900 MW
Starting Cargobay: 750 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 1250 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
2 Forward Mounts (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma HEPTs, Mass Driver)
1 Dorsal Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPTs, Mass Driver)
1 Ventral Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPTs, Mass Driver)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 2 x 125 MW
Hangar: 1 M5
How to acquire: 7,058,524 Credits. Can also be captured during assassination missions if they are escorting the target, although this is quite difficult.
My Opinion:
The Argon Centaur is a good ship, but like many other ships in X2, it usually isn’t worth getting because other, more specialized ships are simply more capable. I would recommend saving up for a Split Dragon or Teladi Osprey instead.
The Boron Hydra:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 94.59 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 302.70 m/s
Acceleration: 18 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 2.99%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 5.99%
Power Generator: 900 MW
Starting Cargobay: 500 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 1500 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma HEPTs, Ion Disruptor)
1 Rear Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPTs, Alpha PSG)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 2 x 125 MW
Hangar: 1 M5
How to acquire: 9,923,224 Credits. Can also be captured during assassination missions if they are escorting the target, although this is quite difficult.
My Opinion:
The Boron Hydra is quite possibly the worst Boron ship, and that’s saying a lot all things considered. It is also, in my personal opinion, the ugliest ship in the game, which is pretty bad considering how ugly the Boron Mako and the Xenon fighters are. As for actual usefulness the ship is rubbish. It has very little firepower compared to other M6 class ships, and is also the least manueverable M6. It isn’t even the fastest M6, being outrun by the Split Dragon. I recommend never purchasing this incredibly ugly ship.
The Teladi Osprey:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 85.58 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 171.17 m/s
Acceleration: 15 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 7.24%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 14.49%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 500 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 1500 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
2 Forward Mounts (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs)
1 Dorsal Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Beta and Gamma HEPTs)
1 Ventral Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Beta and Gamma HEPTs)
2 Rear Turrets (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 3 x 125 MW
Hangar: 1 M5
How to acquire: 8,957,741 Credits. Can also be captured during assassination missions if they are escorting the target, although this is quite difficult.
My Opinion:
The Teladi Osprey is an excellent ship. It is tied with the Boron Hydra for biggest M6 cargo bay, is at least tied with the Split Dragon for firepower, is the second most manueverable M6, and has at least 50% more shielding than any other M6. It is effectively invulnerable to anything short of another M6, and even that is unlikely to phase it. If flown competently, the Teladi Osprey can fight just about anything in the game. The only issue is it’s slow speed, but even then it’s still faster than some M3s and TS class ships. I highly recommend this ship for sector security and as a personal ship.
The Split Dragon:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 135.13 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 324.32 m/s
Acceleration: 24 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 6.49%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 17.54%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 475 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 875 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha PPC, Mass Driver)
2 Dorsal Turrets (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Mass Driver)
2 Ventral Turrets (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Mass Driver)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 1 x 125 MW
Hangar: 1 M5
How to acquire: 6,195,296 Credits. Can also be captured during assassination missions if they are escorting the target, although this is quite difficult.
My Opinion:
The Split Dragon is widely prefered as a personal ship among players of X2: The Threat, and it’s reputation is well earned. The ship is poorly shielded for an M6, and has a fairly small cargo bay, but it can still carry plenty of supplies, and it is very fast and extremely powerful thanks to its four Gamma HEPT turrets. It is also notable for being the only non-capital ship capable of mounting a PPC, which outranges most of the game’s other weapons, and packs a big punch as well. I would recommend this ship to anyone with a lot of confidence in their piloting skills, since it has a lot of speed but little shielding.
M6 Class Ships (Part 2)
Due to the character limit on guide sections on the Steam community, I had to split M6s into two parts.
The Paranid Nemesis:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 100.00 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 260.00 m/s
Acceleration: 17 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 3.49%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 11.89%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 191 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 413 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PSGs)
1 Dorsal Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs)
1 Ventral Turret (Beta and Gamma IREs, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 2 x 125 MW
Hangar: 1 M5
How to acquire: 8,479,448 Credits. Can also be captured during assassination missions if they are escorting the target, although this is quite difficult.
My Opinion:
This ship has exactly one use, like most Paranid combat ships, and that use is carrying as many PSGs as possible. However, considering that the Teladi Osprey can carry four Beta PSGs anyway, the Paranid Nemesis is very useless. It’s cargo bay is significantly worse than even the Split Dragon, making it’s range and utility much worse than the other M6s. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this ship, as it can’t do anything better than the Teladi Osprey can.
TL Class Ships
These are the first capital ships I will be covering in this guide. TL class ships are like mobile warehouses, capable of storing massive amounts of anything you want. They can even carry and use station construction kits, allowing you to build stations without having to hire NPC TLs.
Some uses for TL class ships:
- Storing a lot of stuff. (I recommend the Argon Mammoth, since it has the largest cargo bay.)
- Building stations. (I recommend the Argon Mammoth since it has enough space to carry the largest station and still have room for lots of energy cells to jump with.)
- Mining. (I don’t recommend using TLs to mine, but some people say they have had success with them. Still, I would recommend having a TS around to scoop up asteroid chunks for you.)
- Discount capital ship. (The Teladi Albatross is exceptionally well armed for it’s class, while the Paranid Hercules has plenty of shielding and a large hangar. Take your pick.)
But which one is the best?:
I would say the Argon Mammoth, simply because of it’s massive cargo hold.
The Argon Mammoth:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 112.61 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 225.22 m/s
Acceleration: 6 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.80%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 2.00%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 21000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 21000 units
Cargo Class: ST
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Mobile Drilling System)
1 Right Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs)
1 Left Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs)
1 Rear Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPT)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 12 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 46,288,980 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Argon Mammoth has the largest cargo bay in the entire game, and is capable of carrying any of the game’s stations without using up any more than three quarters of it’s available space. This leaves a lot of room for energy cells to jump with, making it the ideal empire building ship. I highly recommend purchasing an Argon Mammoth for all your station construction needs.
The Boron Orca:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 112.61 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 247.74 m/s
Acceleration: 13 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.64%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 1.61%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 17000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 17000 units
Cargo Class: ST
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Mobile Drilling System)
1 Right Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs)
1 Left Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 10 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 26,811,812 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Boron Orca is essentially a worse Argon Mammoth, so there isn’t any point in buying one. It’s only advantage is a slight speed increase, but TLs never require speed in their typical roles, making this advantage useless. I recommend passing over the Boron Orca for one of the other TLs.
The Teladi Albatross:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 58.55 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 234.23 m/s
Acceleration: 7 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.74%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 1.86%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 14000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 14000 units
Cargo Class: ST
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Mobile Drilling System)
3 Right Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PSG)
3 Left Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PSG)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 6 x 125 MW
Hangar: 10 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 33,304,200 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Teladi Albatross is not suited to the role of a TL, instead being more at home as a cheap M2 substitute, due to it’s heavy shielding and large array of powerful turrets. It also has the advantage of being faster than M2s, as well as having much, much more cargo space, and a hangar that can fit TS and TP class ships, and more of them at that. Overall, I would only recommend purchasing this if you plan to fight, otherwise you would be better off with the Argon Mammoth.
The Split Elephant:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 57.29 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 303.67 m/s
Acceleration: 7 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.32%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 1.70%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 11000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 11000 units
Cargo Class: ST
Weapons:
1 Forward Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Mobile Drilling System, Ion Disruptor)
1 Rear Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, Alpha and Beta HEPT, Ion Disruptor)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 30 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 20,319,424 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Split Elephant isn’t a very good TL, but works very well as a discount M1. However, unlike the Paranid Hercules, which can serve as a cheap combat carrier, the Split Elephant does not fare as well in a fight. Instead, it is an ideal cheap merchant tender, with both the speed and hangar capacity to efficiently transport resources. Ironically, it pairs best with the Boron Dolphin, as the Elephant lends it’s speed while the the Dolphin lends it’s large cargo bay, giving you the best of both worlds. Overall, a poor TL, but a good trader.
The Paranid Hercules:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 56.80 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 227.20 m/s
Acceleration: 6 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.64%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 1.61%
Power Generator: 1000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 13000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 13000 units
Cargo Class: ST
Weapons:
1 Forward Mount (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs, Mobile Drilling System)
1 Right Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs)
1 Left Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs, PACs, and HEPTs)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 6 x 125 MW
Hangar: 27 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 17,073,228 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
Just like the Teladi Albatross is pretty much a cheap M2, the Paranid Hercules is a cheap M1. With a 27 ship hangar with TS and TP compatability, a much bigger cargo bay than any M1, and heavy shielding for it’s class, the Paranid Hercules serves very well in this role. Do be aware, however, that like the Teladi Albatross, the Paranid Hercules cannot carry every station in the game, as it’s cargo bay is too small. I would recommend this ship only if you want to fight, otherwise it is a waste of time.
M2 Class Ships (Part 1)
Known to the players of X2 as destroyers, M2 class ships pack the biggest punch in the game. If an M2 can’t destroy it, nothing can. These are the kind of ships you could raze the galaxy in, so be responsible, okay?
Some uses for an M2:
- Defending your interests from very large threats. (The Teladi Phoenix is theoretically best for this, since it has the best shielding out of the M2s, but an M2 is such a huge investment that the more useful Argon Titan is probably a better use of your money.)
- Attacking the Xenon sectors. (Either the Teladi Phoenix or Argon Titan, for the same reasons stated above. If you are attacking the Xenon by yourself, the Paranid Odysseus is better than either of them.)
- Destroying everything. (This is essentially the reason the Paranid Odysseus exists.)
- Attacking the evil purple aliens. (The Teladi Phoenix or Argon Titan, depending on your taste. The Paranid Odysseus works better if you plan to do this solo.)
But which one is the best?:
The Argon Titan, due to it’s excellent selection of compatible weaponry, and well balanced stats.
The Argon Titan:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 135.13 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 175.67 m/s
Acceleration: 6 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.99%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 3.99%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 3500 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 3500 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
3 Forward Turrets (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver, Ion Disruptor)
3 Right Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver, Ion Disruptor)
3 Left Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver, Ion Disruptor)
3 Dorsal Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Ventral Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Rear Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha PPC, Mass Driver)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 4 M5, M4, or M3
How to acquire: 65,404,648 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Argon Titan is the most useful M2, thanks to it’s ability to mount so many different weapons. It can be adapted to do anything an M2 could possibly be used for. In particular, it can mount Mass Drivers in all of it’s turrets, and can mount Ion Disruptors to the turrets in the bow, port, and starboard. This gives the Argon Titan startlingly good anti-shield capabilities. Overall, the Argon Titan is probably the only M2 you will ever need. If you are planning to acquire your first M2, the Argon Titan is the best choice.
The Boron Ray:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 180.18 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 234.23 m/s
Acceleration: 15 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.99%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 2.99%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 2500 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 2500 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
3 Forward Turrets (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
3 Right Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
3 Left Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
3 Dorsal Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
3 Ventral Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
3 Rear Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha PPC, Ion Disruptor)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 5 M5, M4, or M3
How to acquire: 49,152,188 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Boron Ray seems like it could be useful for captures, thanks to it’s ability to mount Ion Disruptors in all of it’s turrets. However, this is not the case. Ion Disruptors are short range weapons, so you can almost never get more than three in range of a target at once, thanks to the size of M2 class ships. Therefore, the Boron Ray is not any better than the Argon Titan at capturing. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing a Boron Ray, since the Argon Titan is more useful.
The Teladi Phoenix:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 90.09 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 153.15 m/s
Acceleration: 14 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 1.74%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 4.37%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 5000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 5000 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
3 Forward Turrets (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
3 Right Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
3 Left Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
3 Dorsal Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
3 Ventral Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
3 Rear Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PPC)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 6 x 125 MW
Hangar: 5 M5, M4, or M3
How to acquire: 90,434,952 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Teladi Phoenix has the best shielding of any M2, and the largest cargo bay, but it is very slow and cannot mount any special weapons. The Argon Titan has better general purpose capabilities, so it is probably a better use of your money. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you need an especially tough M2.
The Split Python:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 225.22 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 292.79 m/s
Acceleration: 13 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.95%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 2.85%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 3500 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 3500 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
2 Forward Turrets (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Right Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Left Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Dorsal Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Ventral Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Mass Driver)
3 Rear Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PPC, Mass Driver)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 4 x 125 MW
Hangar: 1 M5, M4, or M3
How to acquire: 62,328,100 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Split Python is good at being fast, and can mount lots of Mass Drivers, but it has one less front turret than every other M2, has worse shields than every other M2, and has the worst hangar out of the M2s. It is even worse than the Boron Ray, and continues the sad trend of Split combat ships being total garbage. I would recommend avoiding purchasing a Split Python.
M2 Class Ships (Part 2)
Due to the character limit on guide sections on the Steam community, I had to split M2s into two parts.
The Paranid Odysseus (AKA “Oddy”, “Phased Shockwave Game-breaker”):
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 150.14 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 225.22 m/s
Acceleration: 23 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.99%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 3.69%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 3000 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 3000 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
3 Forward Turrets (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Beta and Gamma PSGs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
3 Right Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Beta and Gamma PSGs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
3 Left Turrets (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Beta and Gamma PSGs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
3 Dorsal Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
3 Ventral Turrets (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
3 Rear Turrets (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Alpha PPC)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 4 M5, M4, or M3
How to acquire: 68,410,560 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Paranid Odysseus is famed for it’s destructive capacity among players of X2: The Threat. This is due to it’s ability to mount an enormous number of powerful PSGs. A properly equipped Paranid Odysseus can flatten entire sectors (emphasis on the plural “sectors“) without breaking a sweat. Some would go so far as to say that the Paranid Odysseus is, in fact, utterly broken, and I am rather unhappy to report that this is pretty much completely true. The only drawback to the Odysseus is that it will destroy any friendlies in the vicinity as well as enemies. I highly recommend the Odysseus to anyone looking to totally annihilate the known universe single-handedly.
M1 Class Ships (Part 1)
M1 class ships are known as carriers to the X2 community, and they live up to that name quite well, being able to carry a great many fighters and small transporters within their spacious hangars. These ships can unleash a swarm of fighters large enough to take on most threats in the X2 galaxy.
Here are some potential uses for M1 class ships:
- Using them as carriers, obviously. (Depending on how many fighters you want to field, I recommend either the Teladi Condor or the Split Raptor.)
- Transporting ships. (The Split Raptor has the largest hangar of any ship in the game, so it is the best at this.)
- Ship storage. (Again, I recommend the Split Raptor due to it’s enormous hangar.)
- Using them as storage depots. (The Split Raptor, for the same reasons as above.)
But which one is the best?:
Probably the Split Raptor, simply due to the number of fighters it can bring to a fight.
The Argon Colossus:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 108.10 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 162.16 m/s
Acceleration: 8 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 0.99%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 3.99%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 2900 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 2900 units
Cargo Class: XL

Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 6 x 125 MW
Hangar: 130 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 88,875,672 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Argon Colossus is actually a pretty good ship, however, it is mostly outclassed by the Teladi Condor and Split Raptor. Still, the Argon Colossus is an excellent balance between the two, so if you don’t like the poor shielding of the Split Raptor, but want it’s big hangar, the Argon Colossus is a very good compromise. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a well balanced M1.
The Boron Shark:

1 Left Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
1 Dorsal Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
1 Ventral Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Ion Disruptor)
1 Rear Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PSG, Alpha PPC, Ion Disruptor)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 6 x 125 MW
Hangar: 100 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 63,200,352 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Boron Shark is more or less a worse version of the Argon Colossus, so there really just is no good reason to acquire one. It’s ability to mount many Ion Disruptors isn’t useful, because Ion Distuptors bounce, so the ship will end up hurting it’s own fighters. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing one, just get an Argon Colossus instead.
The Teladi Condor:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 90.09 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 126.12 m/s
Acceleration: 4 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 2.99%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 7.49%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 6900 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 6900 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
1 Forward Turret (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
1 Right Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
1 Left Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
1 Dorsal Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
1 Ventral Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
1 Rear Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PPC)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 7 x 125 MW
Hangar: 60 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 66,636,644 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Teladi Condor is the most well shielded ship in the game, so it serves well as a carrier which can get closer to the action. It also has the largest cargo bay out of the M1s, which comes in handy since the Teladi Condor can only transport sixty fighters. Keep in mind that sixty is still a huge number of fighters, it’s just less than the other M1s. One more notable thing about the Teladi Condor is that it is the most manueverable M1, so it’s easier to fly yourself than the other M1s. I highly recommend the Teladi Condor to anyone looking for a durable carrier.
The Split Raptor:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 135.13 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 243.24 m/s
Acceleration: 7 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 1.45%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 4.35%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 2900 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 2900 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
1 Forward Turret (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver)
1 Right Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver)
1 Left Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs, Mass Driver)
1 Dorsal Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Mass Driver)
1 Ventral Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PPCs, Mass Driver)
1 Rear Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha PPC, Mass Driver)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 5 x 125 MW
Hangar: 150 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 96,070,672 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Split Raptor is fast, but poorly shielded, and has merely average cargo capacity. It would be garbage just like the other Split combat ships if not for it’s saving grace, the absolutely massive hangar. Capable of transporting up to 150 fighters or small transports, this huge hangar makes the Split Raptor one of X2’s most useful M1s, if not the most useful. I highly recommend this ship to anyone with a computer capable of handling the sheer number of fighters this ship is capable of fielding.
M1 Class Ships (Part 2)
Due to the character limit on guide sections on the Steam community, I had to split M1s into two parts.
The Paranid Zeus:
Technical Data:
Starting Max Speed: 121.62 m/s
Maximum Upgraded Max Speed: 194.59 m/s
Acceleration: 5 m/s per second
Starting Steering: 1.49%
Maximum Upgraded Steering: 5.54%
Power Generator: 10000 MW
Starting Cargobay: 3900 units
Maximum Upgraded Cargobay: 3900 units
Cargo Class: XL
Weapons:
1 Forward Turret (Gamma IRE, Beta and Gamma PACs, Beta and Gamma PSGs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
1 Right Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Beta and Gamma PSGs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
1 Left Turret (Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Beta and Gamma PSGs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPCs)
1 Dorsal Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
1 Ventral Turret (Gamma IRE, Gamma PAC, Beta and Gamma HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Alpha and Beta PPCs)
1 Rear Turret (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma IREs and PACs, and HEPTs, Alpha and Beta PSGs, Alpha PPC)
Missiles: Hornet Missile, Silkworm Missile, Dragonfly Missile, Wasp Missile, Mosquito Missile
Shields: 6 x 125 MW
Hangar: 81 M5, M4, M3, TS, or TP
How to acquire: 90,466,896 Credits. Cannot be captured.
My Opinion:
The Paranid Zeus is pretty useless. PSGs are the worst possible weapon for a carrier, since you will destroy your own fighters, and even ignoring that, the Paranid Zeus has a poor fighter capacity with almost nothing to show for it. I recommend steering clear of purchasing this ship. Get a Teladi Condor if you want a low capacity M1.
