Here’s a guide to the different shotgun shells and what they do in Fallout: New Vegas.

Regular buckshot: Better damage, 7 projectiles

Magnum Buckshot: 7 projectiles, greater damage against unarmored + lightly armored, increased weapon wear.

3/0 and 4/0 Buckshot: 4 projectiles, less spread.

3/0 and 4/0 Magnum buckshot: 4 projectiles, less spread, greater damage against unarmored + armor, increased weapon wear.

3/0 and 4/0 Magnum buckshot hand load: 4 projectiles, less spread, superior damage against unarmored + armored, increased weapon wear.

Slug: Single projectile, better range, more damage against armor.

Pulse slug: Single projectile, better range, better damage against robots and power armor.

Flechette: 5 projectiles, better damage against amored, less damage against unarmored, less muzzle flash.

Coin Shot: 8 projectiles, greater damage against unarmored + lightly armored, greater value.

Dragon’s Breath: Single projectile, better damage, adds fire damage lasting 5 seconds.

Bean bag: Single projectile, deals 250 fatigue damage which can knock a target out, can still deal damage against targets with low armor.
